Or perhaps the paradox team are all secretly hebrew, so they read backwards, thus placing CK first in the list of games. This signals their love of CK and their intent to produce an awesome CK2 when Vicky2 has finished being an inevitable failure.

What? You can't blame me for hoping. lol

Is anyone following the development of EUIII: Heir to the throne? It's early days but with the inclusion of heirs and dynasties, do you think that this is setting up for a CKII in the future or am I just been too hopeful?

I mean this is the biggest step of any EU game towards CK.

From the 3rd Dev Diary, it doesn't look like it is adding any kind of character system whatsoever. The heir system is linear and it doesn't appear royal marriages will "mean" anything still (from a dynastic perspective, they are adding more to claiming thrones and claim strength, but that is adding to the spy system imo). I haven't seen much else beyond a tool-tip showing if you have an heir, thus no upcoming regency, and if you'll have a higher chance of generic pretender rebels spawning when he ascends the throne.

A let down for those of us hoping for anything at all CK-related, but not completely unexpected. The other changes still look great. I'll still hold out hope Victoria II sells unexpectedly well for CKII's sake, but I don't think it'll grab my interest unless it is reworked extensively from the first iteration.

I strongly beleive that that either CK2 needs to be developed WELL before Victoria 2. Or that EU3 should simply include the dynasties, character management from CK in an expansion. THAT for me is what made CK just soooo great, surely for EU3 to move to that next level would be to include this system. To break countries down to the fiefdoms/counties etc (Crusader Kings Style!!). OH MY GOD what a game that would be! Well it would be a CK2/EU3 exapansion combo basically!!!!!! A world map...all that intrigue, all that depth......HOW can it not be seen just HOW GREAT that would be! Everyone would lap it up surely???? COME ON!!! Why does it seem that this is never going to happen??

Well it is impossible to have CK2 developed before Victoria2, since that game is already under development. :)

But we can hope right? =]

Somethings I would love to see in CK2 (Probably already mentioned somewhere...)

Being able to spread Rulers culture throut provinces, without having that kind of culture. Especially annoying if you are Norman. >__>

Being able to play Pagans/Muslims/Jews. <--- Although I have been second guessing this one, because it would not be much of a Crusader Kings... Now would it? Unless... They made like, the Muslims crusades on Roma, or something... (Is it Jihail or something?)

More Kingdoms, that may not of existed before this time or were expelled before this time... For instance, like a Dutch Kingdom, or even a Normal Kingdom.

Being able to play as a Bishopric.. Although I know the game is highly Dynastic, I would still think it would be cool to be able to play as a Bishop.

More later. =]

Plus, a majority (going just by responses in the EU3 forum) do not WANT an advanced dynasty system, ala CK, in EU3. It wouldn't be in Paradox's best interest to alienate that fan-base in favor of the probably smaller CK one by outright forcing changes of that nature.

Ideally, we just need a CK2 that won't get Snowballed and gets expansion treatment like IN and HttT. Everyone can be happy that way.

EU4 can be the game that alienates everyone with a character system, after we get CK2. ;)

I think the best that we can hope for in an EU game is EU:Rome style of character system. I'll be content with that.

So that when you have a Royal Marriage, it isn't just a nameless, faceless agreement but something in place. That is, you can see which country your wife is from, what her traits are and whether she'll produce any children etc...

They're improving the dynastic system in EU with Heir to the Throne but unless if I see more, I'm still very discontent in that area.

I don't think there should ever be a merge of CK and EU. The goals and purposes of the games are different. What should happen is stretch the starting date of CKII to say like 750 AD with Charlemagne in Europe.

I didn't realize that Victoria came out in 2003, a year before CK in 2004. So seeing as Victoria II is out 2010, should we expect CK in 2011?

While the developments with Heir to the Throne's dynastic system are interesting from a CK fan viewpoint, I think what's happening with EUII and For The Glory might hold more potential - modding the old 2D engine to achieve more.

If you look at a lot of the requests in the CKII wishlist, they wouldn't actually need a whole new game to achieve. They'd merely need a heavily modded version of the game we already have. The existing CK mods already do a great deal in terms of adding extra features... I think I'd actually prefer a CK1.5 than a CK2, though obviously it would take an awful lot of ambition and effort to realise.

Well the changes to EU3 with Heir to the Throne got nothing to do with CK to be honest, there you lead a county (i usually play as republic there anyway) , here you lead your dynasty and some people just got too excited about early announcements.

I doubt there will be a licensed revamp of CK as few people would want to take a gamble with their money.

What i'd really like to see is Paradox making game *based* on CK. Not in a Rome style though. What i mean is rename the game to something like *Dark Ages* or whatever and let all countries be playable. So you can lead a muslim attack on Rome for example.
Rework the whole system and allow female inheritance as well.
CK is not built around historical events so it would work very well with decision system they got going on now.
There are a lot of things they could do about character control as well , letting you give much more personal touch and options to your ruler.

Oh well, i'll have to settle with TASS and DVIP in the meantime ;)

as a keen supporter of PI and their almost unique style of intelligent, challenging, 'historical' strategy games I desperately hope they do update CK and release CKII - it has many similarities in structure to EU but the dynastic aspect makes it unique.

what would I like to see in CKII?
*some tactical element in movement e.g. having to make decision about which border to attack across into a province. boundaries of a province with other provinces would have defender/attacker bonuses dependent upon terrain - this would then mean you would have to manouvre your armies - could the AI cope with this and respond with counter-manouvres?
*more inter-court intrigue - have your court figures (steward etc) plotting against each other, not just the 'I could do better' event - maybe include something like the faction system in EU Rome VV - could have system that courtiers traits could increase rivalry/friendships which in turn reduce/increase (modify) their stewardship/martial etc ratings - this would mean have to consider carefully not only which courtier has highest martial rating and suited to post of marshall but also impact of their appointment upon other members of your council - this system could lead to enhanced rivalries/friendships which result in far more frequent events forcing ruler to choose between councillors competing advice - this in turn would lead onto effects on councillors loyalty
* costs of councillors - should have to pay a stipend (?) to your councillors - more costs means more demanding financial management aspects
*more province management - at the moment if you have good income you can just keep hitting the upgrades in your province until all achieved - not very challenging - needs more involved province management - decisions as in EU3 could be one possibility - also make far more of the loyalty levels of the different 'stands' or 'estates' in the province
*more management of vassals not just simply bribing them to maintain loyalty - would like more marriage events and possibilities

Just a slight veer off-topic for those of you who might be interested.

Crusader Kings gets a mention in Episode 36 of the Three Moves Ahead Podcast during their conversation about Tropico 3. Made my ears perk up it did.;)
