I believe Johan has at some point said that he'd want to work with the concept again, so if we're lucky...

What makes CK one of the best Paradox-games for me is the complete randomness and illogical feeling of it -- it's not supposed to make sense, simply. If a sequel is made, I believe much of this will be 'corrected' though, to be more realistic. I.e. no more bastard, schizophrenic, depressed 89-year-olds that are Emperors of Byzanthium, King of Italy, dukes of Half of Europe but sadly only rule one province in reality.

I would LOVE to see CK2, there is simply so much that can be done with this concept. CK is without a doubt my favourite Paradox game, and I think the potential here is limitless.
There is no reason why all of the concepts introduced, as well as the character and dynasty systems, could not be enhanced, such as warfare, diplomacy, court structure and technologies.
And hopefully by then I have a new computer that can handle these 3D graphics...LOL

It's a superb concept and because it's a time-period that I love, naturally I'm desperate for a CK II.

Part of the problem with the original game in terms of popularity was that it didn't entice the casual strategy gamer. To them, you sat around not doing much. To people who bought into the idea (people who love the period for example) - you get into the role and that's what made it so special. You could trace your family tree back and create a history which is outstanding for a computer game.

Anyway, come on Paradox... I'd pay a lot for a Ck2. Hey there's an idea... we could all invest in it to get it developed. Can't see them going for that though can you? :)

If it happens, it's going to be those "gorgeous" 3D battles where you can field 10001 armies facing off in super details, colour of their bow strings, etc. The management of the realm, personalities would be nothing more than an afterthought.

For some reasons, you think it sounds great, medival total war XVI is the game you want.

Paradox will never have the capabilities to progam "gorgeous 3D battles" nor would they want to do such a game. Strategy games are their strength, they should and will keep on doing those. If I want to play 3D battles, I don't look for a Paradox game.
And no, I don't want an "Crusader King" where you have to command every fight & battle, that would be extremly boring.

I think that CK2 should dissociate the states and the rulers. So we will have two layer. The ruler and his dynastie AND the states. It's is not the case in CK1.

So Two different countries could be ruled by one ruler but keep different laws, until the ruler decide to "merge" the two states into one.

The way to jump from one countrie to another ruled by the same character could be similar (in the interface) to the way we can play multiples states in the Great Invasion video game.

And the liege/vassal concept should be linked to the state, not to the ruler. So the kingdom of England and the Dukedom of Normandy will have the same ruler. But the Dukedom of Normandy will be part of the Kingdom of France, while the kingdom of England will be part of... well the kingdom of England.

Then, more laws, more roleplaying factors, more counter powers (like the cities). A concept of factions for the nobility. The possibility to end a marriage under conditions (the historical ones). More diplomatic options...

And perhaps a game into the game : A joust arcade game !

If and when they make a CK2, *all* I ask is...

Startdate in early 1014. United Ireland, independent Burgundy, independent Italy, Basil II, the last great Byzantine emperor...

Perfect time to start.

It'll be 3D. No question. The 3D format is far easier to develop and mod, not to mention making a 2D game would mean either reverting to an inferior engine or making another new one.

That's fine, but so far Paradox's 3D offerings lack the precise historical detail provided by the maps of previous 2D titles.

I personally will be disappointed if this is part of the 3D trend.

There should be more internal uprisings and civil wars among the courtiers leading to, ahem, beheadings and other unsavory things.
I agree the start date should be a little earlier, maybe expanded back to 1016 as someone suggested.
In the later part of the game particularily it would be nice to see the addition of naval warfare.
The combat part of it could be expanded so that the player has more options for control, including command positions among his leaders or generals.
The concept of marriage treaties should be introduced.
Cultural titles should be included of course...Earldoms, Marquises, let not call the Earl of Surrey the Count of Surrey.
I would also like to see an expanded map with more divisions with geographic locations playing a bigger role, for instance, add Lords or Barons as one level below earldoms
I would like to see dynasties be able to change not only cultures, but names as well, for instance, if a De Bourgogne raises to an English earldom his dynasty should eventually be changed to Burgoyne, for instance.
Just throwing a couple ideas out there.

I don't think it is realistic to expect Paradox to ever make a 2D game again.

There should also be more independent characters and organizations, like wandering priests, monks, merchants, merchant families, robber barons, stuff like this - not part of the court, but part of a demesne / province. The player has to deal with them ...

In fact, Paradox should try to have games into the game, and not just the european map. The games into the games could be inspirated by old games like Defender of the Crown or Romance of the three kingdoms.

Yeah, even the 2D remake of EU2 for the Nintendo DS was cancelled. Paradox are most likely done with 2D.

I disagree, my excellency.

I want to play a strategy game, not a dozen of mini-games. For that, I choose Mario Party.

Indeed, although I use Total Wars instead of Mario Party :)

Personally I would love to see a Crusader Kings type of game in a completely different setting, such as China or Japan at around the same time.

Again, that's fine.

Could I ask you to read my post again? :)

That in the end is what disappoints me about EU3. The historical accuracy of Paradox's maps was amazing with previous titles. However, the EU3 map provinces are very blobbish in comparison. If Paradox could return to that accuracy with a 3D offering I'm sure we'd see even the small number of disparaging comments melt away. I don't think that is an unrealistic expectation.

Imagine the entire world (except the Americas) being in.

Granted, the game would probably laggy as anything, but still.

Johann, check this out

I definitely dont think so
2d maps are the best and i would hate to see 3d one
games like MTW II have amazingly good 3d maps but take up too much space (almost 15 GB) i would want ck2 to be max 700 MB
the maps too are not very accurate ( i am an enthusiastic cartographer :p )
i hope ck2 will have a more accurate one
i also have a few other hopes
u can include subinfeudation- u know like in each province there are many manors each held by a knight (who will be addded in the nobility section) and a few by the count himself. these knights will provide part of the province's army.
also they should also display the no. of peasent and burgher families and estimate the taxes
talking of money, money was very valuable in those days (1 english pound in 1264 was worth nearly 550 pounds in 2007). a count earning a monthly income of 1 is absurd. he also cannot afford to pay to build province improvements which cost a lot (training grounds cost 150 when all you need is a clear flat patch of land)
giving gifts to courtiers is useless, they cannot do anything with it.
also the emperor titles should also be included, especially the HRE title.
some one also raised the issue of "earl" of surrey and not a count. he has a good point.
i wouldnt want to fight battles on 3d maps but i would at least want to affect the outcome of the battles.

i feel like creating ck2, the no. of ideas i have are numerous, but i would leave it to johann. come on dude, tell us u started working on ck2!!!!!!1

Well, your majesty, Mario party doesn't have any strategical dimention while Romance of the three kingdoms and Defender of the crown have.
