Georgios better do something or he will end up being a Romanov in North America.
Maybe we'll at least get a nice musical out of it.

A communist Elysium could be fun...

What states have the largest amount of communist sympathizers?

This curse probably has a special meaning for the king, given his father's relationship with that god.
His father was quite the embarrassment, after all...
Is the eruption a sign from angry Olympus? It certainly doesn't help. But at least someone might write a good ghost story because of it :D!
Clearly, it is a sign from the gods.
It worked so well for the Germans in WW1 right :p?
Well, it didn't help much here either... :p
Georgios problem seems to be he doesn't actually like his own people and has absolutely no interest in (or perhaps ability to) understand opposing view points. It should be pretty obvious why people who are starving at home might object to the government spending vast sums helping distant strangers, yet he is incapable of that.
Georgios has views, and those views are the only valid ones. Giving money is good for the ones receiving them, obviously people at home should understand.
Still at least there is a promise of something actually happening. Obviously it hasn't yet but maybe, perhaps, in a few updates time, something might occur. Possibly. ;)
Possibly. ;) Quite possibly. ;)
Perhaps there is an intentional subtext of bringing in the global debate over immigration into this chapter?
From me? It is a parallell, but it's not like I am doing contemporary commentary here. Immigration ingame IS good though, my country has several fold increased both economy and population due to it! :)
Yes, this line made me think of Lenin too.

The mod has obviously supercharged the economy and events are sparking at least 50 years too early when compared to the original timeline. Georgios better do something or he will end up being a Romanov in North America.
Yeah, with the industrial revolution being underway already at game start in 1736, it follows that events come at an earlier date. :) The possible rebellion is huge, taking most of the population and industry with it if it fires.
Maybe we'll at least get a nice musical out of it.
Come come come everyone! Listen to the tragedy, the legend, the musical: Georgios the first! :D

The most populous and industrial, unfortunately... As you can see from the outline, quite a few states.
"Anastasia Goes to Elysium."

Maybe that's the sequel to this AAR?
Hah, we'll see about that. ;) :D

Chapter XX
Pronoia, Elysium

April 1st, 1831

“He was a friend! A friend! And they murdered him!”

Angry tears ran down king Georgios Galantinos’ cheeks.

“He was the son of my bloody regent, for Hades’ sake!”

Georgios was pacing back and forth now.

“I want them found. Dead. Or alive. I don’t care, as long as they’re apprehended.”

He paused.

“A trial would be best, I guess. But this is getting out of hand. We need to set an example.”

The aide scribbled down his liege’s orders, saying nothing.

Georgios looked up.

“We need to declare a state of mourning. And I need to speak to poor Alexios. Send him to my private living room. Dismissed.”

The aide hurried away.

Georgios sat there, sipping to his glass of lemonade. It was getting warm.

Makes me think of the last lines of Edna St. Vincent Millay's "Childhood is the Kingdom Where Nobody Dies":

Your tea is cold now.
You drink it standing up,
And leave the house.

Uh oh. This may be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. Reminds me of Tsarist Russia. Alexander III might not have been so repressive and reactionary if his progressive father hadn’t been assassinated.

Never heard of, but I am glad I reminded you of some real litterature. :)

Funny. Hold that thought.

More references that bring to mind the Romanovs. Indeed, there is a definite sense of foreboding surrounding this AAR now.

Is civil war on the horizon? How large is your military?

Too early for battleships. Make sure you don't have a frigate named Potemkin. Could be bad...

I still find the idea of a revolutionary movement to close the borders mildly absurd. Not that such an issue would cause strong feelings on both sides, but that any government would risk civil war rather than give the population what they want on this issue.

Obviously Georgios will learn nothing from this, he wouldn't have got into this mess if he was capable of such a thing. As others have said he is going to go full Romanov on this matter, it seems out of pure pig headed arrogance stubbornness.

Really, is there? :D

I have focused my military on the capital (which can't rebel) and spread the rest out. Rebels will be strong, but I have strong allies and a small, but decent army.

Hah, noted. :D
Show trails and executions are wonderful and often needed to entertain and warn the masses. The order of trial and execution need not matter so long as the masses receive the message. Thanks for the update
Listen, man - in Elysium we do real, honest to the gods trials. If you don't realize that, I need you to come with me for a talk.

It would have been a disaster for my economy and future. I was willing to risk it as a player, and I have allies. As for Georgios, he is set in his ways. A hypocritical liberal with lots of pride and hubris. He won't learn. I pinky promise.

A lovely short poem from the early 20th century about how adulthood is the realization of mortality. Some poet as I quoted before, actually, though that wasn't intentional--and "First Fig" is certainly more famous.

There is no war in Pronoia. The basileus has invited you to Lake Laogai.

Wow. Just read that poem to my wife, voice barely holding, tearful eyes. That is art. Thank you for sharing.

Georgios might've been better served by compromising, but it's too late for that.

Will the communists hijack a potential civil war?

Too late, indeed. Although.....you'll see in a minute. :)

The Communists are the leading forces in this, yes, having the support within the Paroíkoi, the rural folk.
