I'm actually delighted to see someone doing something diffrent once in a while, even if it's too easy. Atleast in this case one could say it's legit.

If you want some extra challenge even as USA you could try using the minimod (link in signature) due plenty of small changes involving production, combat and such. :p

Actually it would be December, 7th (or even better 8th) 1941, not January....

Ah, I interpreted 1941 too literally then. Are other countries also expected to play according to a calendar, or does this convention just apply to the US?

But enough of this sidebar. It's time to get this game rolling!

Before we can get to combat there are some happenings to discuss.

A few minor countries want to help out. Oh yeah, were attacking Cherbourg and being attacked at Avranches. We will win both of those battles.
US44-21hour1.jpg

The real prices are now showing - it would be helpful if they were correct from the very begining. here's the top of my production queue ...
US44-22realprices1a.jpg

and the bottom. There are items in between you can't see here.
US44-23realprices2a.jpg

This is more than the US can afford (that's 253 ICs in production), even after a lot of pruning.
US44-22realprices1b.jpg

But what to do? I can cut more ships, but the Midway CVs will be useful later. The ground units are probably needed for the next war, so I guess it's okay to leave them on lower priority. Some airbases and infrastructure would be nice to have. In the mean time, there's no money for upgrades. Suggestions? Advice? Anyone?

A day after the game starts China comes hat in hand. Sorry, we don't have the dollars required to fund this event. Now why is it that the richest country on the planet starts 1944 with no money in the bank? Is this an oversight? It sure cramps American diplomacy. But trading away some excess resources will help with this.
US44-26charity.jpg

Okay, on to the ass-kicking the Axis so richly deserves. Presented in chronilogical order:

Our air campaign has two objectives. Slag German production and entice the Luftwaffe to its own slaughter.
US44-24airwar.jpg

So far, so good.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the world Japan insists on challenging our naval power. The AI is insane or incompetent or both. After this first battle it sends small groups of ships at us, like moths to a flame.
US44-25seapower1.jpg

We win many victories, the IJN gets chewed up, but few ships are lost.
US44-27indecision.jpg

Not to be outdone, the KM, even the Finnish navy, charge into the fray (or meatgrinder, depending on who tells the story). Here's a couple of German DDs west of Ireland trying to sneak back to Norway.
US44-28KM.jpg

And some U-Boats from Norway trying to get at our convoys. Allied naval dispositions have worked out well so far.
US44-29KM2.jpg

Two Kongo class battlecruisers are next up.
US44-30BCx2.jpg

Carriers verses U-boats, never a good match.
US44-31uboats1.jpg

Results of our air campaign over Cologne. Scratch one city! The Luftweaffe seems to be avoidung us.
US44-32airwar.jpg

Kreigsmarine on a death ride. Gneisenau, the pre-deadnaughts and most of the rest of the German surface fleet. This should help the Soviets control the Baltic.
US44-34KM2.jpg

More U-Boats take their last dive. On the left 4 IJN CAs get power spanked.
US44-35uboats.jpg

Germany couldn't hang with the Allies. We just kept sending more troops until they cracked. We'll take the offensive in France after this.
US44-36Avranches.jpg

Tirpitz comes out from Brest to find . . . the French fleet? Really, that's the FRENCH fleet. But who would expect the Tirpitz to be hiding in Brest in 1944? We were looking for Destroyes, U-boats, maybe a cruiser, not the fraking Tirpitz. In any event she's chased back into port. Next time there will be a much more appropriate welcoming committe.
US44-37tirpitz.jpg

The Japanese divisions just seem to evaporate.
US44-38NGuinea.jpg

Things are going slowly in Burma due to the terrain.
US44-39Burma.jpg

What are the Japanese up to at Midway? Two Essex class CVs against Hosho is only going to turn out one way. The US CVs are escorting troop convoys from Pearl - glad they were around.
US44-40midwayHoshovs2Essex.jpg

China comes back with their hand out. This time we have the funds and will provide aid. I hope this isn't a weekly event.
US44-41ChinaAgain.jpg

Time to see what's available for blueprints.
US44-42blueprints.jpg

Florence is loveley this time of year. On the left you see our bombers hitting Tirpitz in the port of Brest. She keeps trying to get to sea, runs into the French navy, flees back to Brest, gets bombed, . . .
US44-43Florence.jpg

The air war has moved to Essen.
US44-44Essen.jpg

The British are busy grabbing real estate - those Aegean Island tourist spots. (Actually Brazil ends up with Rhodes.)
US44-45EastMed.jpg

While the Americans are staking claims in France. Note the Tirpitz is trying to flee Brest yet again.
US44-46ETO.jpg

IJNS Hosho is the first carrier to be sunk.
US44-47Hosho.jpg

Poor Germans they're not lucky with their Battleships. :D

It's July 2, 1944 and time for a rundown. Here are the losses:
US44-48losses2Jul44.jpg

Inflicted lossses report. Bulgarian and Fin air units have been fighting in the skies over Germany.
US44-49inflicted2Jul44.jpg

I'm not sure what capitol ship France sunk, it's got to be German and Tirpitz hasn't been seen lately. It doesn't show as a kill for the French naval squadron that was off Brest.

Doesn't look like the Soviets have gotten rolling yet.
US44-51Europe2Jul44.jpg

France is going well.
US44-50France2Jul44.jpg

A closeup on the MTO. Brazil (Rhodes) and Bulgaria have matching colors.
US44-52MTO2Jul44.jpg

We make haste slowly in Burma.
US44-53Burma2Jul44.jpg

New Guinea is another Slimey Green Hell.
US44-54NGuinea2Jul44.jpg

The last of our July 2nd pictures is of China.
US44-55China2Jul44.jpg

The AI does some wacky things, Finland's navy should be in the English Channel.
US44-56FinNavy.jpg

This should put to rest any pretense that battleships are a match for carriers. US CVLs (which represent what, "CVE Jeep Carriers"?) and a couple of old BBs against Yamato and Musashi.
US44-57junkvsYamato.jpg

Field Marshal Eisenhower and First US Army liberate Paris! He could be President one day.
US44-58Paris.jpg

Those old US battleships can still get it done.
US44-59Biscay.jpg

Note: I'm running into some supply problems in the MTO. Brazil's division died from lack of supply and the 5 division French Expeditionary Force in Italy is almost out of supplies even though it has been kept out of the last round of combat.

Oh btw will you go for a landing in Southern France ?

hhe germans so desperate they're using bombers for air defence ^^

do a landing in southern france, that will speed up connection between normandy and italy thus making stronger front

Our war proceeds well. In France we have the Fascists on the run. Here is the situation as of 16 July 44.
US44-60France16Jul44.jpg

In the pacific we've been accepting some risk and started a campaign of unopposed landings by division sized landing forces backed up with minimal naval assets andair cover. We ran into Shokaku after airdroping on an undefended Truk. She caught the transports headed to pick up our airborne. Luckily no casualties.
US44-61Shokoku22Jul44.jpg

France again on 3 August 44. We did make a small landing in Southern France with troops taken from Dakar, but simply don't have much to spare.
US44-62ETO3Aug44.jpg

Because they've been busy liberating Greece.
US44-63Greece3Aug44.jpg

We need to crush the remaining Germans along the Franco-Italian border quickly in order to release those troops.

Our friends in the east suffered some setbacks. The lost a few provinces near Grodno and may have some units cut off. Finland hasn't lost any provinces and the Rumanians only a couple. German troops in Estonia are almost cut off.
US44-64east3Aug44.jpg

Losses as of 3 August 1944.
US44-65losses3Aug44.jpg

Inflicted losses for the same date.
US44-66inflicted3Aug44.jpg

The Germans are doing surprisingly well in the East. Good for you ! :D

Got as far as 26 August, Berlin had fallen to the US Army, France had been liberated, allied troops were retaking the Philippines . . . and then the dreaded CTD.

My last save was 6 August44, guess all those screen shots (not to mention the Berlin victory parade) will go down as alternate history.

Resumed from last save.

A battle worn Yamato comes back for more punishment. This Japanese task force never makes contact with other US ships.
US44-67Yamatoagain.jpg

Yamashiro's turn in the barrel didn't last long.
US44-68Yamashiro.jpg

Allied forces have crossed the Rhine at multiple points. German resistance is marginal, but Panzer divisions can not be ignored.
US44-70acrossRhine.jpg

France decides it is liberated. Not sure what this means in game terms. Provinces are being turned over as time and money (always in short supply for America) allow. Nationalist China is still asking for help, though it's hard to say how healthy they are.
US44-71France19Aug44.jpg

Allied airborne troops in the ETO make their first landing in Rotterdam at 0800 on August 6th. A small fleet of transports quickly deliver the backup force while Royal Navy battlewagons provide naval gunfire support.
US44-69-060800AUG44Rotterdam.jpg

My use of airborne has been very limited. Apparently they can't jump into mountain provinces, something I tried to do several times.

An allied pinser movement targets Berlin. American forces enter the outskirts of the weakly held city on the 25th of August 1944.
US44-72BerlinStarts.jpg

The German capitol falls to 9th US Army the next day. Hitler and his government flee to Vienna.
US44-73BerlinFalls.jpg

In the Pacific Emperor Hirohito's navy attempts to eliminate American invasion forces. A Battle of Manila Bay ensues, reminiscent of Comodore Dewey's go to with the Spanish in 1898.
US44-74ManilaBay30Aug44.jpg

Allied forces race to Vienna in the hope of bagging der Fuhrer. The Canadian thought they had him, but Hitler slips away a second time, to Leipzig, and then Hamburg. The ability of any government to play beach blanket bingo in this manner is highly suspect. Are there penalties to morale, research, production and diplomacy for moving the capitol under duress?
US44-75Vienna30cap2.jpg

Losses for 1 SEP 44.
US44-76losses1Sep44.jpg

Inflicted losses. Type XXI U-boats come as a late war surprise in the Atlantic.
US44-77inflicted1Sep44.jpg

Wow you're in Berlin and Warsaw is still in German hands. The Soviet AI has some problems it seems. :D

The 5th German capitol falls to Allied arms.
US44-78DanzigCap5.jpg

Central Europe as of 9 September 1944. Still no movement by Soviet armies in Finland or Rumania. US has created FRG which includes all of DDR as well. The game is not allowing Belgium to be liberated. Warsaw becomes the 7th German capitol.
US44-79CentralEurope9Sep44.jpg

The Home Fleet gets some action against what remains of the German surface navy - Gneisenau, the two relics, a few cruisers and DDs.
US44-80HomeFleet11Sep44.jpg

Battle of Leyte Gulf, part I.
US44-81LeyteGulf.jpg

Part II. All the important provinces of the Philippines have been liberated.
US44-82LeyteGulf2.jpg

Warsaw falls . . . to the Americans? New Englanders of the 26th Yankee Division are there to chase the Germans out. Chasing is all they can do however, the German capitol eventually jumps to Memel and the Soviets are finally motivated to take that province, closing off the Baltic states from liberation by the Allies.
US44-83Warsaw.jpg

Europe as of 15 September 1944. British troops have landed in Norway, Allied and Soviet forces are meeting up in Poland, British led forces are have pushed up against the Transylvanian Alps. Czechoslovakia has been liberated. Paris is again the capitol of France.
US44-84Europe15Sep44.jpg

An amphibious invasion of Finland may be next.

I'll be traveling for the next week. Maybe the Soviet AI will recover its wits and attack Finland/Rumania by the time I return.
