A true ruler of the Horde will set priorities. Since there is little similarity between the terms Safavid and significant, the Safavids were lucky to have escaped the attention of the Horde for so long.
I cant even imagine how nerve wracking it must be to be the Safavids, let alone anyone who has to exist in this world in opposition to the Horde. Invasion could come at any time!

Still want to see the death of China, and then massive crippling revolts so the Vicky game would be fun!

Yes, I think it would be an excellent challenge to try to reunite Genghis's empire by, say, 1900. I don't know if this game would do too well going into HoI though, it would take a full-fledged mod just to make a plausible scenario. Vicky, however, would be a good continuation, if you feel up to it.

The Horde eyes new enemies. I like it.

nette001 - Most likely it was their very insignificance that allowed them to escape for so long.

germanpeon - Well I shall put an end to their worrying about invasion. With invasion!

billy bob - I know you do. You always want to see revolts and death right?

Lord Skane - With pleasure.

Amob_m_s - However I don't think I am up to it really. Not quite enough inspiration.

coz1 - As do I. What would the Horde be without enemies? A failure I should think.

Tokhtamysh II : Part 7
The war began in a predictable fashion. The Horde's superior troops steamrolled into the Safavid Empire. All opposition was either crushed, beheaded or destroyed in some combination of the two. Meanwhile the Safavids displayed their fitness by marching at a brisk pace all over the Afghan countryside. It was quite impressive, however as a strategy for winning a war it left a lot to be desired.

The Horde ruins while the Safavids run

The Safavids at last showed a spark of intelligence as they ran to defend their capital. Unfortunately they were too late, by the time they arrived the walls of Qazvin had crumbled and the inhabitants subjected to KABAP as was custom for all enemies.

The Safavids are too slow, no one is surprised

Shortly the borders in Persia were corrected to an arrangement deemed by Tokhtamysh to be far more appealing and appropriate. The Shah of the Safavids of course objected, however he certainly wasn't in a position to be making demands and the new alignment was made official on 1 December 1808.

The Safavids had extensive possessions in Persia.

All was looking good for Tokhtamysh and his spirits were further lifted when good news arived from the Bureau of Cultural Assimilation. Many of the heretics from the former Christian lands were seeing the errors of their ways and converting to the correct religion, sometimes even without the need for the use of pointy objects.

Good news

Well that was entirely too peaceful. I mean, sure there was a war going on, but I must admit I do so miss the rebel influence. One must always have rebel ankle-biters to make it truly fair. ;)

But oh mighty Tokhtamysh you didn't force-vassilize or force-convert. You left the Safavids still following the perverse Shia path to damnation and still free of obligations to the mighty Golden Horde. That means another chance to use the diplomatic tools and sharp pointy things.

And not to mention the chance that somebody only would need a reason to add Toktamysh to his Head-of-State collection ('head' to be taken literally). Is stab-bility increasing or decreasing?

demokratickid - It is good to fix em up.

coz1 - Is war not enough ;). Rebels are always being called for it seems to satiate someones appetite.

Chief Ragusa - It was going to cost a bit too much warscore to do either of those. Better to grab some provinces first then aim for that.

nette001 - Stab-ility, I like it. It is increasing for the moment. At +2.

Xelzefeyr - Thanks heaps for the compliment. It really is quite something to see new readers after such a long time writing this. Glad to have you along and hope you enjoy the rest.

Tokhtamysh II : Part 8
Few things can truly do wonders for the soul of a good Khan such as the slaughter of countless enemies. The massacres committed on his command left Tokhtamysh feeling positively cleansed of all sins. For now his appetite for further religious favour was fulfilled.
830-praying.png

Tokhtamysh pictures himself as quite divine. The most observant may notice the influence of European art upon the painting due the large amount of the continent controlled by the Horde.

But one should never mistake a contented Khan for a complacent Khan. Indeed he still had great ambitions to expand and strengthen the Horde. Unfortunately for him there were many options but none that presented itself obviously. So with a degree of reluctance Tokhtamysh turned to the Horde Council for advice. The ten council members were most eager to give it. The four generals advocated war. The three Imams advocated war, religious war. However Tokhtamysh found himself most interested in the proposal by the three diplomats, diplomatic expansion.

They had prepared a map of the Horde's relations for the Khan. It was a pretty sight that showed the Horde the centre of a substantial amount of hate.
829-hated.png

The diplomatic map shows success, their hate for the Horde can only be a symptom of envy at its power

But of concern were the two nations of Mesopotamia and Chagatai. Both were ripe for absorption (Chagatai having been a vassal for over 160 years) if only their leaders were a bit more friendly. Tokhtamysh could only agree that 160 years as a vassal was something that needed to be remedied. Now.

Operation Lets Be Friends gets underway. Stage One involves being nice and sending gifts. An uncharacteristic turn for the Horde

OK, you can be friends with Mesopotamia but only if you begin attacking India soon after. It's time, methinks.

Or Europe...either way. :D

I just hope that your soldiers plunder back the gifts when the time comes to annex their country.

That, or the gifts being soldiers to plunder their country would be cool too...

GIFTS!? ARE WE uZBEKS!? NO! We dont grovel! THEY GROVEL!

Don't be fooled Chagataigaites! Those are Trojan camels. They may look like nice gifts, but the second you go to sleep you'll find horse-musketeers riding through the streets.

That would have been a nice feature in the Shaybanid story, a woollen horse. But indeed, 'ware diplomats from the Golden Horde bearing gifts!
