Could someone using the mod dir version of TGW verify if the TGW sprites show up, please? I'm running into a strange problem, and I'm beginning to wonder if moddir works for sprites... And as my version is now completely messed up, maybe someone with a cleaner version could help me out.

EDIT : scratch that, mod-dir does work with sprites, but, as always, files of the same name must exist in the HOI base... This could be messy.

Can you include the dummy files in the stuff that you're going to send me as well then? Do these dummy files have to be image files, or does there just have to be any file of the same name in the normal file? If it doesnt have to be an image file, then it would probably be best to have blank notepad files as dummies to avoid confusion.

But my problem is not knowing if the dummies will be needed. I didn't need them before, as the sprites have been showing because there were already sprites there in vanilla HOI. The USA doesn't have fighter sprites in vanilla HOI, though. But if the person installing TGW installed any sprite mod, it is highly likely that USA fighter sprites were included in it. And adding dummies could be very bad to the sprites already in place.

As for the contents of dummy files, I think the best would be having the sprite file point to the MIN graphic file. The graphic file itself doesn't seem to require a mirror in the basic structure. I'll double check that, just in case.

As for "guards" infantry, perhaps gwalcmai can come up with a sprite remsembling those guys which-I-cannot-remember-the-name-of-that-is-guarding-buckingham-palace :D

Fanciful but unrealistic. :D In the British sense, the 'Guards' would have been the Regular army's frontline divisions, and as the war wore on, 'shock' troops like the Canadians and Australians, and some of the better British divisions - like the 36th or the Guards Division itself...

Therefore, duplicates of the normal infantry sprites will definately suffice. :)

Everyone, do not expect any new stuff (even what I was doing). My hard drive died, and took all the sprite meshes, textures, the new interface and a pile of other stuff. :( :( It also took the software I was using, but that I just need to reinstall.

My fault for not heeding the warnings. With the system working as weirdly as it was, backups were in order...

I'm remaking the system now. Once all the software is reinstalled, I can start again. As I have learned a bit when working on it before, I could probably do it a bit faster this time.

Hmmm, maybe PhilK still has the fonts. That's probably what takes longer...

I understand. Take your time, and good luck! :)

I hereby send you a letter of mourning. :(

Requiescat in Pacem.

That's so sad, I remember when my old HD died....my condolences.

A Requiem is in order.

Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine.
Et lux perpetua luceat eis.
Te decet hymnus, Deus, in TGW,
Et tibi reddetur votum in Cyberland
Exaudi orationem meam
Ad te omnis caro veniet.
Requiem aeternam dona defunctis, Domine.
Et lux perpetua luceat eis.
Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine
Et lux perpetua eis.

Very touching - I have a tear in my eye just reading it...

But we shouldn't mourn the past, but celebrate the future - for when Gwalcmai starts work on some sprites and the interface again, which I sense, will be soon :)

Gwalcmai, how easy will it be for a Guards infantry sprite to be made before I issue a public release this week? I have tried to do something basic myself, but I'm finding my attempts somewhat hopeless, insofar as I have ended up with a either the fortress infantry sprite (leftover from when it had the mechanised tag), a funny looking black and red box, or a yellowish looking militia man standing in the wrong place who multiplies Agent Smith-style into a long line whenever combat breaks out. If we cant get a solution this week, then 1.03b will have to be released with Guards represented as fortresses - the least worst option.

Sorry, I haven't had time to even install the mod again. Once I have it installed (tomorrow, probably) I'll tackle those problems.

No worries Gwalcmai - I'm sure the vertical line problem is a rather simple one, and that once you've got round to it, will be able to offer us a solution very quickly in time for the release. The other goodies like the new interface can wait until 1.04 or later.

Henry v. Keiper has spent a rather long time in collecting more than 140 tech pictures to put in the next version of TGW - well done to him, and many congratulations!

He shall now be given the responsibility of scowering the internet (and films ;)) for suitable tech pictures to give the mod a greater visual 'completeness' (If that's a real word) :)
