Wow, thanks for the news. I must say I'm very much looking forward to 1.06. Especially per the centralization issue. It'll now finally present a challenging decision.
Anyway, the problems with VNET might be responsible for some of the chat crashing, in my experience. What we've noticed, and this may or may not have been reported as a bug, is that often times when loading from a save (not an original scenario file), all players have to reclick on their shields once everyone has downloaded the save file, or else some players will be 'undefined' at game start, at least in the perspective of some of the later-downloading players. When first they attempt to chat, they'll experience a nasty CTD. Hopefully this is fixed in the new VNET.

V1.06 is coming out in July and as part of this there will be a major rework of vnet which ought to solve the problem for good. So perhaps another couple of weeks and then we are sorted.
