Hi, ive been working on a custom map based on its tutorial but i have an issue where it seems that all of the terrain coloration is slightly to the right of where it should be, but all the map files seem fine. (pic related)

see how the yellowish color that seems as though it is supposed to go under the oceans is slightly to the left of where it should be? you can see it most clearly by looking at the major rivers.

That looks an awful lot like the world map from Avatar. We're always looking for new help over at the Four Nations Avatar Mod.

Anyway, it looks like something is off with your proportions or your colormap. What I suggest is you double check that the coulormap matches your hightmap pixel for pixel and then transfer it to a fresh copy of the colormap file. In there scale it down to match the correct proportions and then ensure you save it with the same DDS settings as the original file.

lol i might check that mod out! this was just a test but it wasnt chosen without interest. anyways, the thing with that is that i havnt yet created, the colormap file? so that cant be the source of the issue unless not having one is whats causing the issue.

Hopefully this is a suitable place to ask...

I have a weird issue with my default.map file, I think?
I'm doing a total conversion. I have a total of 290 Provinces (265 Land, 25 Sea); everything works perfectly so far, except that I have to set 'max_provinces' to somewhere around 2,000. If I set it even lower than 1850, I get a CTD on loading... usually at the "Loading Sounds" stage.
Edit : I already have a blank 00_provinces_setup file, as mentioned earlier in this thread, and still get the same issue.

(Unrelated to Map modding, but since this is a guide to Total Conversion, maybe someone's encountered it : I have a crash on change-over from day 3 to day 4 every single time. I read somewhere ages ago that this is to do with a missing k_papal_state in landed_titles, but I have that there... I asked about this in the QQ thread, but no-one's replied as of yet...)

It could be event related. Are you replacing/fixing all the vanilla events for your total conversion?

I have not got to it yet, but I just tried replace_path for events, and it's "fixed" the problem :D Is there any way I might be able to track down precisely which event is the cause?

Thanks for the help :D

Edit : Found it!

So, only the default.map issue to solve... Would having a higher number of provinces than really exist actually affect anything, though, or can I just ignore it since it seems to work fine so far?

Hey, I have a great map going with the methods you listed and things seem to be working fine minus one. None of coastal provinces are able to raise fleet levies at all and there is no option to build ports, like they aren't registering as coastal. Using nudge no shoes up. Any tips?

I am having a problem getting my Major River working... It's not even using the name I gave it :/
As far as I can see I've done everything correctly :
1) Picked an unused colour from definitions (specifically the colour after my last Sea, all of which are working)
2) Give it a name 'River 001'
3) Draw the river and colour it that colour.
4) Updated Terrain, Rivers, Topology, colormap, and colormap_water to reflect the new river
5) Add the ID number under 'major_rivers' in default.map, complete with a # and Rivername

But instead of coming up as a River, it's showing up as an empty Province...

Edit: I also apparently have an issue with a SubRegion being missing, but if I use Notepad++ and highlight it, it shows up as existing; and if I swap it around, it says that whichever one is the first SubRegion is missing.

Found out why this was happening. The ocean provinces weren't registering as oceans because I had put their terrain data in the wrong column in the province data table.

Sounds mean and unhelpful but what you are doing here is not what the guide describes.
Personally I have no idea how the whole "pick an unused colour from definitions" thing is supposed to work. For a new map it is totally acceptable to pick any random color out of the possible 16777216 colors that are available. Giving it a name is irrelevant for it working. Rivers is usually not affected by adding a new _MAJOR_ river. colormaps also not. You need to edit terrain and topology, yeah. Then add it to major_rivers. The comment and "Rivername" there is irrelevant, just there to make it more readable.
Important is the ranges for stuff in default.map. You said you did that there but this is the most common source of error if you do it by hand and without the tool.

Hello everyone, first time posting. I just wanted to drop by and say thanks for the guide and show my first "successful" attempt while following this guide. This is the first time the game actually loaded for me.

Hello. I basically followed the tutorial and downloaded the tutorial map, tested it and everything functioned. I then changed the maps and provinces, but not the character or the names of the provinces. Now I can load the map, but its just the empty black map without any provinces just ANY_ALL, without the character either.

If you want to get help be more specific ;)

Great to hear :)

Yes, although there isn't much more to it. I downloaded the version of your mod of chapter 2 and loaded it, it functioned, one province, two ocean provinces, one guy who held the titles, it functioned. Now I replaced the map files one for one untill I had all my files and didn't change the province colours or anything. I then started the game with the changed mod and got untill the loading screen. The whole landmass was plain black and the "province" was called "ANY_ALL" with no ruler. Upon selection random character, the game crashed.[/QUOTE]

Hello, I have tried to make my own "Test-Mod" with this guide. Unfrtunately it always crashes when the flags are loading. Maybe someone has an idea.

Hello, I have tried to make my own "Test-Mod" with this guide. Unfortunately it always crashes when the flags are loading. Maybe someone has an idea.

I had a quick look at your provinces.bmp
If you zoom in on your graphics editor you can see Anti Analaysing (There are dark grey pixels in the image next to the black land mass)
I believe this is causing the issue.
It can be caused by using a brush that has a soft edge or some other smoothing effects
Your terrain has these rogue pixels as well.

if you are using GIMP
When using the Pencil tool, set mode to Dissolve, brush "Hardness 100", and dynamics to "Dynamics Off".
When using Bucket Fill, set mode to Dissolve.

Please note that I too am having issues with crashing, but my crash is after the loading flags when the load bar is complete. So take my advise with a grain of salt

Here is my mod
I cannot get the map to load

Not really sure what the issue is. It crashes to desktop during the flags loading stage.
However one odd thing. If I update the replace_path in the .mod file, with say all the ones included in The Game of thrones mod, it instead crashes right at the end during Loading Graphics.
I have been trying to get a basic 1 county / 1 Sea province to load but no joy.
Is there a definitive list of replace_path values that should be used for a non standard map?

Coding in assembly is easier than getting a mod to load in this game :p
