I think it is a problem in GIMP because IrfanView displays it garbled as well. It probably says somewhere on the site that it can't save PSD files, but I can't be bothered to look.
A file saved in the gimp can't be opened in Photoshop as well.
Anyhow, I managed to fix my psd lib in a way that it reads the GIMPed files, and it seems the layer data is intact.

I'm looking into a few things Kasperus reported, and after that I'll present you beta2. ;)

Dammit, the adjacenties are causing me headaches. :(

We've waited for three years, we can wait a little longer. Turn off your mind, relax and float downstream and then you'll be back in business...

Working with the map editor...

First, I should add to the already numerous accolaides that have been showered on you Inferis ... great work...

Second, I am finding it very troubling that Paradox, after hearing 3 years of discussion on editing the maps, has not worked up any kind of map editor... do they not understand how important it is that we be able to do this??
/end rant

Finally, my question:
I know this is for EU2, but seeing as I lost my copy in a move and haven't purchased another... I was wondering if it would be terribly difficult to adapt this to work with Crusader Kings? Seems like there are only 1000 someodd provinces.. not sure what the differences with map size are though.. and I know you're neck deep in just getting this to work with EU2... just curious... thanks.

Thanks,

Thanks,

I think Inferis has plans to extend Magellan as much as possible on his long-term to do list. Including extending it to CK and Vicky if possible.

Given that Paradox stopped supporting EU2 some 2½ years ago I think we should be incredibly grateful that Johan keeps writing us patches on his free time!
A map-editor would certainly be easier to build for Paradox than it has for Inferis, but that's still beside the point. They've gone WAY past their obligation as game-developer.
Moreover, I'm pretty sure I heard somewhere that Inferis has gotten maybe a little help on the side from Johan...

This is all true. Paradox can't be blamed... sure, they haven't made a map editor - but they are in every other way extremely mod-friendly and helpful, much more than most companies.

Let me be clear on something: I wouldn't have been able to do this without the help Johan provided. ;)

There you have it, straight from the keewee's mouth, Johan is a GOD...Or a lesser diety of some kind at least... :D

Excuse me for my breaking in...
Could someone tell me how to change the surface of map?

up0045.png

I'd like to change the surface of relation map of CK, like terrain or econimic map.
I looked into Inferis' site, but could not find out how to do it. :(

cf. The file names are the same as EU2.

I'm afraid you are mistaken. The CK files are *not* the same as the EU2 files.

Yes, some of them have the same names - but they are not the same.

Thank you for replying. :)
"not the same", oh I see.

Concerning CK map, my guess is...
There are the two types of maps. The first is a base map (ivory colored, like relation map) and the second is a terrain-expression map (tiles.bmp. like the surface of terrain map). These two maps are the same dimensions and outlines. The terrain-expression map covers the base map.

Then by changing map mode, the terrain-expression map is switched ON to OFF or OFF to ON.
Terrain --- ON
Relation --- OFF
Economic --- ON
Religion --- OFF
Realm --- OFF

I'm afraid of borthering all to talk about CK.
If wrong post, I'll immediately retreat.

I'm working on porting my EU2 lib to the other Paradox games... It's a lot of tricky work, and I'm not even sure the files are even remotely the same. AFAIK, there are differences, but not very huge.

If I have more info, I'll keep you guys posted, of course.

It might be too early yet to refer to CK map.
I'll refrain from diverting your attention and keep on researching CK map as possible as I can. :)

AFAIK, the "grainy" look of the CK map comes from the same file used in the Victoria map to show relief and vegetation information: tiles.bmp. That one isn't even used in EU2. Renaming that file should give you a flat CK map.

Keep in mind I don't have CK, but this works in Victoria and apparently the system is similar.

When's this second beta coming out or has it already come out? Oh, and make it so we don't have to use the prompter, please! :D

I'm 99% sure that you will have to continue to use the command prompt for quite a while still. Doing a GUI interface for the editor is a lot of work (that's what Inferis tells me, at least).

And I'd rather have him put the engergy into either a "drag 'n drop" icon function for mview, or a on making the extract tool work with other Paradox games. :)

The command line stuff was easier to get used to then I thought it would be, just pull up the tutorial in the Magellen 1 beta thread and go through step by step. I mean, I have no idea what the stuff I was typing really meant, I just parroted it and it worked great.

It's really easy to make a few .bat files too, which just do each step for you, typing free. If I start doing a lot editing and I'm giving it serious thought, for my own personal map (I suspect I may have some different design goals then most of the teams ;) ) then I'll probably whip some up just so I don't have to keep starting the command prompt and finding the Magellen directory and all that.

From my old DOS days:

1. I recommend you print out the "tutorial" that is at the web site for Magellan, as well as any added information in the two threads. That way, no window shuffling while you enter the information.

2. Pre-write the command paths, so you don't have to look them up.

3. Once you have a command on the command line in DOS, all you have to do to duplicate it is use the right arrow on the keyboard; like magic your previous command will appear. And, you can insert anything you need to along the way (like new parameters). Or, once it is already fully re"typed", then you can use the insert key to change to replacing text, or simply backspace and type if you prefer.

Doing this stuff reminds me how absolutely thrilled I was with Macintosh computers when my parents got their first one way back when. GUIs rock!
