Delete HOI 2, restart and start again from a clean install, however this time do not mess with it. :D

If you have problems a manual uninstall maybe in order, you can find instructions on this in the Sticky thread on the subject.

I had a similar problem with a game I bought in Germany, but the install procedure was in french, the manual in german, and the patches did not recognize my game. In fact, the suggested install path was onot "Crusader Kings"¨!! WTF ??

Now I'm trying the manual uninstall, as a last resort.

Next time I'll claim to be a pirate, and the software police can come and fix my problem.

Or ask me for help.
Being sure to follow Support forum rules as outlined in the sticky thread. ;)

Yes, I am as well facing the same problem. Only that I did reinstall my HOI and still the same problem is showing. Any advice?

So it is telling you the game is not installed?

Where did you install it?

Is it from a CD?

This I did, twice.

I lost all my save games too, which wouldn't matter if v3 did load.

So now I have a game loaded, but the upgrade still can't see it. I have read a number of these questions on these boards, and some are fixed by re-installs, but I can't believe that all are. Also, I never had this problem with HOI1, nor CIV, or many other games. :(

Edit: I bought this game at Saturn, a german retailer. On CD, in box. Now they did get me a replacement, but I'm dubious as to whether this will solve my problem.

Think I'll just call paradox, and ask them to mail me a new one.
:p

"Did load" ?

Are you saying that the patch has been applied, but you cannot get it to start properly? Or are you saying that the patch itself cannot complete successfully?

In any case, what's the publisher of your version. That info should be somewhere on the box, the CD or in the manual.

The german version of the game is created/distributed by Koch. (It certainly does not mention anything other than Paradox at bootup)

What surprises me is that when I check the CD, there are demos of Crusader Kings and these could be confusing the issue. Maybe I'll try to download the HOI2 files only, and then install from my HD. If I install from the CD, the shortcut icon says "Crusader Kings". Also the language this is done in is french, in spite of me buying the game in Germany.

So, I can play the game, but I can't load the patch, as it says the game is not loaded.

If the replacement game from Saturn does not work, I'm sending the disc to Paradox to check unless someone here can help.

Sounds rather weird. Especially the "crusader kings" bit as icon name. I can understand that a demo for a different game is supplied on your CD (that's not too uncommon), but the main game's icon should still be called hearts of iron II or something similar.

When you do a fresh install from the CD and run the game from the icon, what version number does it report in the main menu screen?

Demos off CK? IIRC there is not made a demo of CK. Do you mean a trailer?

Hoi2v1.00 (CRWK)

This is as it appears.

Could be. But I have EU II, and this is the prequel, so it could be a free upgrade, or a demo as you say.

Right click on the Icon, open properties. What file is the target file and what directory does it start?

XK is not an upgrade of EU2. How big is the ck folder and can you install it and play?

This happens either with a Pirate copy or with a copy of the game that is purchased from one distrubutor and attempted to be played in a different distributors nation.

Since I do not think you are a pirate, that leaves us with the second explanation.

Try settign the Language manually in the Registry.

I live next door to Germany, so should my "nation" be France, or maybe Belgium? Note that this problem did not happen with EU, or Legion.

Thanks for your vote of confidence.:D

I can play the game in any language (well, most) but I can't load the patch. Should the patch and the game use the same language??
That could explain a lot. Please tell me how to do this.

There seems to be nothing to do with CK, other than the name.

BTW, this

My bad. :eek:o

Strange, it looks right, except it should not be paradox entertainment, but paradox interactive. Hope that the new cd from saturn will fix it.

I manually changed the address to Paradox interactive, everywhere (there are at least 5 different ways to access, incl Start, My Computer, shortcut.....)

Still no-good. This is obviously a bug and nothing to do with Paradox or me.

If the replacement does not work, then I'll get an english version from Stockholm.
