EU IV

I reverted to 1.30.6 and did a clean install, but it doesn't let me choose Iron Man. Am I missing something?
Did that include deleting the Documents/paradox/Eu4/ folders?

Hello. Thanks for answering.

FYI the solution was given by @grotaclas:

Do you get the message "EU4 is running a mod or is altered in other ways."?

  • delete the files events/SpreadOfCalvinism.txt and events/SpreadOfProtestantism.txt from your game installation if they exist (they should not exist anymore in 1.30 or

What I did before reverting was:

1. Uninstall from Steam
2. Delete the Documents folder: %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Paradox Interactive
3. Install 1.30.6
4. Deactivate all mods (I only use GMI or Theatrum Orbis Terrarum)

But this was not enough. Deleting the files mentioned above did the trick.

How can i revert back to 1.12?
I entered the code but 1.12 was available, what do i do?
Not all versions of all games were ever made available in the Betas tab. Which game are you referring to here?

Sorry, I was referring to EU4, so i really cant rollback to 1.12 anymore? Quite sad a mod i quite liked was on that version.
I suspect that version was caught up in this process:

Basically Steam will not allow more than a certain number of beta versions, so we removed the ones that had the fewest players.

this comment explains a way how you can roll back to a version which is not available on the betas list anymore. But it is a relatively complicated process. The rest of the comments in that thread contain more information from when I tried to help people to get it to work.

It is to complicated for me, but do thank the people who have tried to help others. It seems from the comments & the fact this can be done, it must be above board, as Paradox/Steam would have stopped it. This really annoys me as it means Paradox could supply these betas in some form if it wanted to but cannot be bothered. Finished with EU4 as the games I wanted to play, I cannot do so, as later versions become a complete different game that I don't like. Also, put me off Paradox games in general, & cannot remember the last time I played one, which is a record to me since discovering EU1 all those years ago.

I do like the look of Victoria 3 though, but cannot expect I will purchase it until see how it does. Normally, I would buy it on day of release.

Of course they could provide them as separate downloads from their servers. But the way which is explained in the comment which I linked, requires the external program depotdownloader and it is something which paradox can't provide directly. It is also not guaranteed that steam won't prevent this way in the future(some time ago they prevented an easier way which did not require depotdownloader).

BTW: the easiest way to continue playing older versions is to make a copy of the installation folder while the version is still available on steam. You can start eu4 from that copy and it should work as long as steam is running in the background(some versions need a change to steam_appid.txt for achievements and DLCs).

I know about copying versions & used to do that, but after 1.06 didn't anymore as they were on Steam as betas, so didn't think anything of it. The two I was playing were 1.07 & 1.08, which disappeared before we were even warned about betas going, so too late. Bad PR as far as I'm concerned.

I buy EU4 in EPIC. How to roll back in EPIC?
Unlike Steam, Epic do not provide a facility for distributing old or alternate game versions, I'm afraid.

I can't help you with 1.12, but I have a clean copy of the install folder for 1.11.4 if you are interested.

I'm trying to get to HOI4 1.10.4, but it doesn't show up under betas, and the code doesn't reveal it. Any idea how to fix it?
If the HOI4 devs choose not to put up a particular version, there is nothing you or we here can do to fix that. As I understand it they only ever post the last minor version of each major version.

If you have a mod that needs 1.10.4 , it will need to be updated by its author to run on 1.10.8 or better still on the 1.11 patches.

It is a pity the developers of EU4 didn't do the same. Then we wouldn't have lost all those old versions of the game, stopping people playing the game they loved.

Why I am on here can I ask why Paradox cannot provide the downloads in secure areas on these boards. Certain boards you have to have the game to sign in so no problem of people accessing the downloads who haven't got the game.
