When I consider human nature, this seems to me the most likely reality. Eventually we will find something out in space that we decide is valuable, a company will pay some eggheads to figure out how to get it, by the time space travel has become widespread enough that interplanetary colonialism is possible that original company will have become so powerful it will have effectively monopolized deep-space travel, industry, etc.
Edit: For Humans wealth is power. This has always been true, and we might as well assume that it always will be.

No, ofcourse we´re fully democratic. There´s no exploitation of colonies going on. And we espacially aren´t supressing other species. (We just ocasionally use something that makes an nice "Whip" sound XD )
I believe we are all biased on our opinion regarding humanity. I do not believe we can speak impartially on this matter.

I'm hoping that Earth (human home world) has a random set of characteristics (government, ideals) each game that will translate into a different name.
Humanity will clearly unite under the Pope eventually. So we should be represented by an absolutist theocracy, with its leader being Pope Benedict XXXII. And the name of this nation shall be the Most Holy and Glorious Galactic Papal Empire.
