Assuming Humans start with Earth as their home planet, wouldn't it be good if their empire wouldn't be Human Confederation, Terran Alliance, United Earth Empire nor anything else stupid...

But the United Nations?

But the United Nations?

You create your civilization, heck, even your species yourself. You can most likely give them any name you want.

The UN is too incompetent to feature in an interstellar game - plus have been known to pursue copyright infringements on their name where gaming is concerned. I kid you not.

The idea that the UN would run the world in 200 years if pure fantasy. At best any actual world federation would be more like the UNSC than the UN in general. That being a few of the dominant countries band together to ensure baseline protections for their interests at the expense of everyone else.

The US/Russia/China etc are never going to allow the Burundis and Ecuadors of the world to outvote them and therefore set international (let alone interstellar) agenda. In fact I think that reality would make for some good internal decisions/events for the human faction with the dominant powers that actually run whatever federation/alliance exists for humans trying to maintain their position against upstarts of weaker members that want their say.

The idea that the United Nations could actually function as an effective governing body capable of engaging in intergalactic administration is about as plausible as calling the human civilization "North Korea" or maybe a little less.

Terran Empire/Confederation/Union/Directoriate/People's Republic/whatever would be nice, because it's neutral, but sounds better than Earth xxx because it is in Latin. Everything sounds better in Latin. Or we can call it British Empire. Britannia rule the space!

The Bacon Federation.

Probably gonna be called "those weird guys who keep having sex with and or killing every new species they find in increasingly inventive and ridiculous ways".

The idea that UN would be one nation is of course pure fantasy. So is a United Earth Empire.

It is utterly and completely unrealistic that this planet will be one country. So UN could represent all the nations.
