Sad to here this news . While you still leave an opening for future content after 2021, this feels/sounds more like a permanent end.
I only started playing Imperator a few weeks ago and I must say I quite like it, and was hoping for more updates and content. The foundations of this game are good now and there is a lot of potential. Seeing it (probably) being discontinued reminds me of its predecessor EU Rome.

Hi all, Arheo here.

As mentioned above, many of the faces you've become used to seeing in relation to Imperator will be moving on to utilise their talent in support of new projects.

2.0 was, and will remain a seminal moment in Imperator's history. The reception from the players has been overwhelming, and we are beyond proud of what the team has accomplished.

I will also be joining the team in their exodus to projects various, so I wanted to take this opportunity to thank the I:R team, our community and fans for crafting Imperator into a strong, unique element in the PDS repertoire.

I have confidence that Imperator will continue to grow towards the vision we created for it, and I will continue to be present both here and elsewhere for further conversation regarding the best PDS game ;)

/Peter
I assume you can't answer but I'll still give it a try... does this mean that in the future, if development resumes, there will be another game director instead of you?

What an incredible disappointment.

This is much worse than anything I expected. What an absolute waste....

If you look at the recent updates of all PDX games, Imperator (and maybe CK3) is the only game that has been improving in the right direction.

The latest update of Stellaris was a disaster. The latest updates and DLCs for EU4 have been a disaster as well.

The one game that makes a successful turnaround and grows into something genuinely unique, you pull the plug on it....
Cult movies/games are not appreciated first, they need time. Alas, time is money. We are living in strange times.

Probably, the bad results regarding other games is precisely why they are shutting down imperator rome. They are basically relocating their best soldiers (the competent developers of IR) to more important fronts ( EU4, Hearts of Iron, Stellaris and the incoming new game). The disaster of Leviathan probably triggered the final decision by Paradox.

this is just unfair - of all the paradox games IR had probably the best development and going in a direction the fans love ....
while other titles ... uhmm EU4.... really fucked shit up
that feels like rewarding/punishing the wrong behaivor

I am quite certain this was decided well before the recent problems.

Certainly Arheo at least already knew about it when 2.0 was released.

That is likely, yes.
Well, on the one hand I wish you the best of luck in your new project, but I will confess I am quite sad about this. Imperator was becoming my favourite pdx games and I loved the way you were managing it.
Still, thanks for the reply!

Well, this was a pretty sad way to start off the weekend, but I guess something like this was always coming. I see a lot of potential in Imperator (and it's already a very good game) but perhaps it's just difficult to turn the beast around this late in the game, I don't know. Too bad, because Imperator is the only PDX game I've been playing regularly the last 6+ months. I don't know why that is. Maybe this is the end of Imperator, maybe not. With no definite idea of when development might resume it's easy to simply assume that it won't. At least there is a very passionate (though small in comparison to the other games) crowd of players who really love this game and I think all the people who have contributed to it since release should be proud of it and all the hours of fun it brought to all of us.

It is sure that the decision of shutting down the game was at least "on the table" given the low player base. However, the recent disasters probably represented the ending trigger of the company's decision. The timing of this announcement is indicative.

Well, that kinda sucks, I was wrong.

But THANK YOU to the Dev team for this amazing game. I really do hope you come back to it, but I enjoy it so much right now. My biggest issue has been finding gaming time recently.

Again, I think PDS should get massive credit for 2.0. I:R could have been ditched long ago, but you plugged away and made what I think is the strongest game in the stable currently.

Kudos!

Such a shame. Just as I was starting to have some hope that IR might actually realize its potential with another year or two of development, PDS pulls the plug. Too bad.
