There is no naval base limit that needs raising.

naval bases are from 1-10 and determine the rate at which any ships(no matter how many) will regain their organisation and have their strenght repaired.

while exeeding the size of air bases further decreases the repair/reorganistion rate this is not the case with naval bases.

While I can't speak for Paradox...

I would guess that it has something to do with the amount of managing that it takes vs flotillas. One of the things that you notice when you compare HoI2 with HoI1 is that a lot of things are automated to try and reduce the workload on the player. I believe that the inclusion of MP (multi-player) play was the driving force. MDow

No disrespect intended, but what does this add to the game (the representation of individual ships over flotillas)? I'm sure this has been discussed before but I feel it easy just to ask here.

For me it is a realism and feel addition.

You could potentially have that battle where the Glorious is escorted by only two destroyers and has to escape or defeat the Gneisenau and Scharnorst. The destroyers can heroically die and maybe get that critical hit that saves other units by making the Germans withdraw.

I confess, I do not know the effect that this will have on MP (multi-player). In SP (single player) games, I have enjoyed the feel that individual units give and the effect that they can have on a battle. I can easily integrate my destroyers into existing fleets to replace losses or upgrade my force. Not being an MP player, I cannot judge how it will play. Sorry for that. MDow

I must admit that the "individual ships" idea is a good feature, given the large scale of HOI II. Been thinking about it for a long time on my own home-made mods. And I'm quite sure the CORE team is doing a splendid job incorporating this variant into the game system. Hopefully on the 15th., we can all play it out... and enjoy it! ;)

I like the idea of individual ships. One thing what I dont like in HOI2 is abstracting too much. It would much better if ship flotillas at least had some kind of number how many ships they have and are ships damaged. 100 streng doesnt tell ANYTHING! Some thing with air divisions. I hate abstracting number of ships, tanks and airplanes.

WW2 is so great period just because we have so many numbers from it. You can research and compare easily. Unfortunately HOI2 feels so flat without real numbers. No reports of how many soldiers was killed or wounded, no numbes of how many U-Boats was sunk, no tonnages, no airplanes shot down reports, no operational loses, no how many tanks lost or produced... You got he picture.

I think individual ships is really great! Transport flotillas could be abstracted, I dont have problem with that. But fighting ships like destroyers instead should be counted right. Great job!

Interesting....I hear people saying that they are concerned about "game speed/performance" with the individual ship units but I haven’t seen anyone post what types of systems they have to sort of back this up.

I know in the Original CORE HOI mod that I had the pleasure of playing, granted over a year ago....I didn’t have a problem with game speed/performance. Yes I know it isn't quite the same comparison but I know my PC was quite a bit older than it is now but still way above these requirements.
Windows 98/ ME / 2000 / XP
Pentium III 800 MHz 128 Mb RAM
1 GB Free Hard Drive Space
4 Mb Video Card DirectX Compatible
DirectX compatible Sound Card
DirectX 9.0 or higher

I guess my point is this....
Given the game requirements which are pretty very low to begin with and the modification that CORE is making here, do people really feel their PCs are "that" old which this will make a big difference?
Personally just coming from an MMO environment recently (COV and WoW), I am not concerned at all about what CORE might demand on my system.

Perhaps people should post what systems they are using to get an idea of where the complaint is coming from. Just a thought.... ;)

Hmmm I think I'll just wait to see how it works before trying to pass judgement...

It does sounds like it will add a real dimension of naval strategy to the game (as opposed to swamp enemy with Carriers/Subs)...

Of course I may have to buy another 512 of RAM but I was planning to anyway :)

More comments after I play the MOD...

*goes back to twiddling thumbs while waiting*

I think the single ships idea is great, and won't cause much of a slow down, a bit more management, but a great attention to detail.

I think its a great idea... but I just did a quick bit of research on the net. The UK built ~325 destroyers between 1918 and 1945, not including escort destroyers, that all served during the war at some point. ~130 were lost and obviously they're being built over a long period so you wouldn't have all 325 at once but its a hell of a lot of ships.

i wonder if the BB buildtimes are more realistic in CORE.
Every single ship i looked up , from Bismarck over North Carolina and Yamato, tells me the build time for a BB was 44 to 52 month from laying to commision.
Thats ~4 years per ship and not ~720 days like in HOI2

I think, to stay on thread subject, its a good idea to have ships and not flotillas.

I am also glad we germans numbered our U-boots and didnt call the stupid names like USS Archerfish  even if it sunk the Shinano...
(i could hardly belief 6 torps got into a Yamato class BB hull, but apperently they did)
