I'm at work right now as well, but only because I called in an exterminator to deal with a probelm common among establishments that serve food. Well, Friday night was one of the two options I put forth (ie, Saturday, 3 am). If our Friends in Europe (TM) don't mind waking up early on both their weekend days, then I'm fine with it. I just thought it might be a bit more fair if we Americans offered to wake up early some, too.

We COULD push it back an hour, so that you wouldn't have to get up until 5 am (6 am once dst ends, since Indiana doesn't go in for that foolishness.) It doesn't seem too onerous to me since I almost always go to bed at 10 pm when I'm not staying up for a game (we co-sleep with my 2-year old daughter, so we try to have a Family Bed Time.) That said, if our European comrades are fine with waking up, I'm fine with staying up.

Just for the record, making NPCs is a laborious process. I've made up the courtiers Byak will have to pick from, as well as up to four brothers, and it took several hours.

If Byak's girlfriend is willing to relent a bit on her diec-rolling duties ;), we might consider farming out somewhat the NPC creation. Offer people who want to play a NPC Kingdom to populate with NPCs that haven't been finished yet.

One other thing, for the age of the courtier, I rolled a d20 and added 15 to it. Therefore, all the starting courtiers will be between the ages of 16 and 35. Just thought I would check with Byak to see what he thought of this.

EDIT: If/when you want to build Germany as a PC realm Byak, just to see how laborious it's all going to be, I'll post short descriptions of the 28 courtiers I made up for you. You'll wind up with a court of 8 people + however many brothers you have, assuming that we're sticking with the 2 duhies for the King idea.

Due to work I can only play on weekends, so Saturday is best for me. Not sure about 9 AM GMT though, as Saturday mornings is when I normally go shopping for groceries. Saturday evening would be best for me (i.e. some time before our current MP game, which for me is Sunday morning).

Well, for our European friends, we could move it forward to 5 GMT perhaps?

Well, that wouldn't be too bad. That'd be 8AM here, and 7 AM in CET, so we might actually be able to lure in some of the other Europeans :)

I'm not usually available for gaming until in the later evening local time or early in the morning. My family has this annoying tendancy to want my attention while they're awake ;). Because of that, I'm only regularly available to play when it's late or when it's early here. As I don't sleep much, getting up early or staying up late isn't too problematic for me.

I'd rather get up early than stay up an hour later. But as long as its on the weekend, it should work for me.

Well, if getting up early is ok for you americans, then perhaps a time like 1100 or 1200 GMT would be ok on Saturdays? That'd translate to 0500 or 0600 CST (+1 hour during daylightsaving) and 1300 or 1400 (+1 hour during daylightsaving) over here.

There's no way I can get up at that time due to the other people in the household... :( I know it seems like I'm not sacrificing what Jark and Byak are, but there is no way I can make it at that time.

Well, saturday after 0900 GMT is bad for me, because if I have any kind of weekend activity (like RPG-sessions), it's most likely during saturday afternoon-evening. So if we want to play on saturday, I suggest we go for 0300 GMT, like sundays.

Random courtiers, I find it doesn't take that much time if you don't need to make descriptions. It took few hours for me to do Ayyubids, with all randomized emirs and assign them countries and titles, while removing proper ones from Ayyubids. Besides my girlfriend sees it as quality time together when she throws the dice and I write them down, so I guess we'll do the NPC-realms. Though if you really want to help and have D12, D20 and D6 available, you may certainly send me some stats to use, should you want to help. I admit it's quicker when you don't need to throw the dice. Actually, if you like you can send ready thrown characters in a zip to my e-mail: byakhiam AT yahoo DOT com.

That's a good method for deciding age.

Next version I plan to post should have all moslem and the NPC border realms filled with random rulers.

I assume you mean your girlfriend (you would say "my girlfriend" though). Not to correct you on grammar, but what you said would be quite an insult to both you and your gf... ;)

Thanks Sterk... I must be slipping into Schizophrenia now and then... ;)

Here, version 5:

- All pagan and moslem realms given random vassals of duchy level
- All orthodox realms given random vassals of duchy level
- Rulers in Jerusalem got randomized stats too
- Cultures changed according to our plans with Patrucio
- Malta fixed (had Catholic culture and Italian religion before :D )

DL!

After chatting with Byak, I've decided to call dibbs on England. Assuming Jarkko and Hyzhenhok are going to play (and given what Hyzhen said the other day), that will set our country selections thusly:

Germany- Byakhiam
France- Solmyr
Poland- Sterkarm

England- Patrick
Italy- Jarkko
Hungary- Hyzhenhok

The first group will have their vassals, brothers, and assorted relatives made up by me. The second group will have their people made up my Byak. Other people who are interrested in joining should pipe up. We've got Scotland and Aragon set aside for the next two people who would like to join.

Unless something radical comes up, we think we're ready to begin making characters. As you post your characters (and your characters' wives, which you also get to make), we'll post the vassals and brothers you will have to choose from to dispense your dukes.

Germany and France have a number of ethnicities, and in those two countries Dukes can only be assigned to duchies that share their ethnicity. The only exception to this is brothers, which can be assigned to any Duchy. The player gets to keep two Duchies for themselves. Every other Duchy must be assigned a ruler and a type (feudal, ecclesiastic, mercantile.) You may only select ecclesiastic if you have a person with an ecclesiastic education that can be assigned to the Arch-Bishopric.

Germany:

Germany has 21 duchies to assign. Ethnic break-down is as follows:

Dutch Duchies:

Flanders, Frieseland, Brabant

South Slavic Duchies:

Krain, Karnten, Stiermark

Prussian Duchies:

Brandenberg

Saxon Duchies:

Saxony, Holstein, Mecklemberg

German Duchies:

Bavaria, Francia, Istria, Lower Lorraine, Luxemburg, Mesien, Osterreich, Schwaben, Thuringen, Tirol, Upper Lorraine

Dutch Courtiers

Antoon van Loon
22 years old

Antoon is an illigitimate scion of the famous van Loon family of Flanders. Much like the more legitimate members of the van Loon family, Antoon is a capable and well-rounded individual. He was trained by his father in the military, but has proven himself a capable leader in most spheres of governance. Dispite his natural talents, Antoon has managed to keep a sense of modesty about him, and the men that find themselves under his command highly priase his generous nature.

Willim van Brabant
24 years old

Willim is the head to the van Brabant family of Frieseland. The early death of his father and the heavy responsibilities placed upon his young shoulders have left Willim a frazzled and stressed young man, but Willim still acquits himself well enough in the family's traditional sphere of interest (mercantilism.) Willim is an energetic and high-strung individual, but his father's early death in combat has left Willim with a deep fear of finding himself in a similar situation.

Jan van Geldern
21 years old

Jan is a recent veteran of the German conflicts, and has already emerged as a grizzled and tested veteran. He is an extremely trusting individual, and has repetedly demonstrated his absolute fidelity to his commanders and his liege. Jan is also known to deal generously with his men (some say too generously), and it is his friendly demeanor and his great personal charm that has served to make Jan a very popular young member of the Dutch aristocracy.

Coenraad van Montaigu
22 years old

Coenraad has recently completed his monastic education, and his social rank marks him as an up-and-coming member of the clergy. Though many feel that Coenraad's monastic education has left him as something of a detached and distant individual, Coenraad's tremendous natural social grace and tact means he will go far. Indeed, many expect to see him as a bishop of an influential dioceses (or archdioceses) in the near future. Coenraad is an exemplary Christian, particularly noted for his mastery of the virtues of industry, temperance, and chastity.

Prussian Courtiers

Milzas von Mansfield
24 years old

Milzas is the preeminent religious thinker in Prussia. Decended from pagan high priests, Milzas has proven that his line is capable of thinking about proper religion as it is thinking heathen thoughts. Milzas is revered as a marvelous person, honest with all he speaks and willing to turn the other cheek, as Christ would, to those that wrong him. Milzas speaks with a pronounced lisp, but dispite this is very well-regarded throughout the Kingdom.

Ekkelis von Pommern
32 years old
Ekkelis is the head of the most prominant of the Prussian families of Germany. As the nominal head of the Prussian 'tribes' in the region, he in the only secular authority in German Prussia that could be reasonably considered for temporal power. Ekkelis dabbles in politics, but has no real talent for it. Indeed, his true talents seem to be in exhibiting those traits that were considered great virtues among his pagan ancestors- he is a lustful and indulgent person, though he does exhibit an odd sort of wisdom pecular to the Prussian people. Ekkelis has recently been diagnosed with worms in his stomach, so he is eager to marry and sire children in order to ensure that his line does not die out with him.

Wait, we don't get to create our own brothers? Well, at least we get to create our wives, right, that's what Byak said in first post?

Also, on time, perhaps we could try a Sunday evening (europe) game? Around 19 GMT maybe? Or we could play the friday session and the sunday session, making it two sessions a week, so that it won't take forever?

@Patrucio: Well done, although due to little memory error, I forgot Istria should be south slavic as well.

Also, if players would mod their desired kings and wives for their kings, it would kick things along. Randomization creates everybody else (including brothers).

Also, if you like, you can post dynasties you would like your subjects to have, preferably ones local to your kingdom (so no Hautevilles in Poland or Medicis in England). You'll find dynasties in the dynasties.txt file in DB. If it's the same to you, we will assign your subjects dynasties with Patrucio when creating your subjects.

South Slavic Nobles

Matej Karnten
35 years old

Matej is the pre-eminent slavic catholic theologian and, along with Milzas von Mansfield and Dietrich von Schweinfut, one of the greatest religious scholars produced this generation by the Kingdom of Germany. Matej stands apart from the other two noted religious scholars in the uncompromising zeal he demonstrates in his ideas and in the insightful vision his discourses demonstrate. He is particularly vociferous in advocating the burning of people who refuse to abandon the old religions, and has long supported papal calls to keep the Holy Land in Christian hands. Matej also one of the wealthiest prelates in the German Kingdom, having learned from his burgher father the intricacies of mercantile management.

Miroslav Basarab
35 years old

Miroslav Basarab is a capable old soldier of the Koenig's army, having proven his worth in countless campaigns against Germany's enemies. A distant relative of greater nobles to Germany's southeast, Miroslav's general excellence in everything he tried marks him as one of the premier nobles of Slavic Germany. Dispite the effusive praise Miroslav has recieved through the years, he has maintained a modest demeanor and has managed to not indulge in the luxuries thrown at him for his faithful service.

Vladimir Borkowic
33 year old

Vladimir is the head of the influential Borkowic family. Vladimir is a capable, well-rounded individual, educated in the courts of his father. He is an excellent negotiatior and his eloquence has averted more than one conflict among the fractious families of Slavic Germany. He is well regarded for always telling the truth in any situation, and also understands the importance of generosity in keeping his family popular and in power.

Radu Vujoslav
18 years old

The young heir of the Vujoslav dynasty is a promising, if troubled, young man. He is considered a very capable courtier, and is well liked for his dedication to justice and the mercy he shows that have transgressed the law. Radu, however, has recently fallen ill following a visit to the holy lands. None are sure what afflicts Radu yet, but they are certain he is sick because he offended God in some way. Many pray that he will soon recover, while others pray that he will repent his sins before God damns him to hell.
