I don't think this is much of a tutorial, since Com. China with hordes of militias is not representative of HPPs innovations.

But !!! It is a great AAR and a great read, probably your second best (first best for me is Greece word conquest), so please continue...

And the pace is great, everytime I refresh there is a new update. It feels like actually playing the game.

I guess nope, but I'll try to get artillery later on! (note that militias get their new weapons a bit differently than in vanilla, so that's a innovation too!)

Really? Cool! :)

Give me a list of countries that you'd like to see as next in my AAR!

I'd have a next chapter up already if I wasn't busy with proving I have the right checksum for our MP game :)glare:), but I'll do my best to get up the next chapter up today and if not here, then at least for the MP AAR we've just started here, so be sure to check it out as well!

Glad to hear you're enjoying this AAR so thoroughly!

For some weird reason, Yunnan and Guangxi start to mobilize, despite being hardly under any threat from the two main Chinese factions.

They are scripted to do that at the start of 1937. I'm not sure why that was done but I didn't get round to changing it... yet.

In late June, a most excellent proposition is made by the government. “Standing Army” law will increase our units’ experience, with the tradeoff being longer mobilization of manpower (if we ever decide to do so anyway). As a side note, democracies usually stick with drafted armies, whereas authoritarian countries go with professional ones.

That's a bug that hasn't been fixed yet! As a communist regime you shouldn't have got that event.

Cool. Make sure they'll actually reinforce instead of rising dissent ^^

But, but...i like that.

Hum, communistic countries probably should have drafted armies when I come to think about it. On the other hand, some of today's democracies have standing armies

The generic logic for mobilizing was one of the things I looked at first. The difficulty is I can't actually calculate whether they can afford to mobilize until they've actually gone and done it. There are some rules to try to prevent very obvious mistakes being made and there are also some instructions to tell the AI to demobilize if dissent starts to get out of hand - and that should take precedence over the country-specific instructions.

Chapter VII: Brighter Tomorrows...?

Our politicians discuss again and come up with a brilliant idea to further support the integrity of our glorious state.

Wwx7qzz.gif

This is my technology queue. I’m researching mainly infantry doctrines and technology, as well as “Human Wave” type of fighting.

cjT2qgm.gif

I am able to stop the Nationalists fairly easily. The biggest pain is their bombings and my inability to do something about them. Also notice that I pocket Nationalist troops, as 75% of them will revert to my control after I crush KMT’s regime. Remember to not destroy your enemies’ troops while fighting the Spanish Civil War as well!

H0EqEz6.gif

I’m able to achieve some minor victory, but some Nationalist militia division to the north is looking for trouble...

PhVmyP4.gif

Luckily, it’s thrown back shortly thereafter and another IC unit is built in Changsha.

8370FBs.gif

Some infantry division was too overconfident and is therefore pocketed.

ndXnN4Y.gif

What’s worse is that it has some supplies and wreaks havoc in our supply lines. We’ve also temporarily lost Changsha! The situation in Nanchang is looking bleak as well.

2AbiYIU.gif

This is bad.

RsoTZue.gif

Both pockets are relieved, though not every Nationalist division is allowed to escape. Luckily, I didn’t lose any units.

o5A4X84.gif

A day later, the battle of Wuhan is lost.

6uQODu5.gif

A counter-offensive is launched shortly thereafter to retake the city.

WlxERyns.jpg

Let’s have a look at the production screen. I’m still building IC, but I’ve also ordered some infantry to be trained.

iEUI2Po.gif

And on 8th July, 1st (3rd) Infantry division is deployed to Wuhan.

Chapter VIII: A Cunning Plan

This is the research queue at the end of July 1938. Officers are at 150% already, so that gives even more room to technological research and finally, weapons for infantry are in the queue as well.

6ICLhhY.gif

Another small encirclement is conducted.

VyBfYy3.gif

But making the divisions actually stop is harder. Two freshly finished infantry divisions are deployed in Xi’an to help with surrounding the enemy. In the end, two Nationalist militia divisions manage to escape to Shanxi, but one regular infantry division is interned to stay in Ankang.

PuKK06Y.gif

In the middle of October, an important breakthrough is achieved in the doctrinal field.

7GGNpUv.gif

Tough fights take place near Wuhan.

PwjP7XV.gif

In November, Japan commences the border skirmishes with Soviets. There is a very real threat for the Soviets that they’ll go into war with Japan.

hVLeCQ0.gif

As you can see, the bonuses given by “Human Wave” are very helpful for the war effort conducted solely by soldiers on foot.

X5d8VNi.gif

What’s surprising is that Japan didn’t escalate the conflict with Soviet Union. What are their intentions is beyond my knowledge.

n2vu7On.gif

Fighting still continues even through wintertime. Another vital doctrine is researched.

K7lcDVo.gif

Using the local numerical advantage is the way to go if you’re playing as the weaker nation.

uLBGVhG.gif

Time to break through the Yangtze River and seize Wuhan once again.

V7Y2Agm.gif

As the new year hits, four new infantry divisions are deployed to Zhengzhou.

Nationalists are restless though.

nwuOz55.gif

Great news comes a few days later. This will surely bolster our troops’ effectiveness in battle!

LZGCjkH.gif

hBAy1zr.gif

Already using the (already reinforced) infantry divisions from Zhengzhou, the aim is to encircle divisions stationed in Tianmen.

mk0Owac.gif

At the beginning of March, I notice I have better ministers to take charge of armament and intelligence.

UDLBOtg.gif

This bumped my IC to 31, allowing me to become a “regional power”, granting me additional leadership.

gLsJvvj.gif

And this leadership is put into good use right away.

8V7As57.gif

AAR is synched with the game progress!

It definitely looks like you are getting the upper hand against the Nationalists but did you actually want Japan to attack or not? Also, from past experience I think there is a much greater chance of the Khalkhin Gol incident escalating than there is for Changkufeng.

From what I know, Japan usually doesn't attack China when I'm present in that theatre. One thing I forgot to mention was that I removed the Hebei demilitarized zone via upping the infra by firing the "2822" event at some point (in my first CHC run, it felt silly to me that I couldn't reach Beiping just because of that infra-wall) but I don't think it should have any impact on Marco Polo Bridge Incident.

I wanted Japanese to attack Nationalists. When/If I manage to defeat Nationalists, I will be obviously stronger than I would be in the case when Japanese attacked, providing me more challenge in the long-run I think ;)

Yeah it seems to me letting the Japanese attack would only cause more problems in the long run.

Then you've a chance to see another CHC AAR from my production :)

Yay! Another Ikar thingy, how did i missed that?

8 updates? Seriously? While I hadn't time just to play my Japan game and prepare some screenshots and material for update? You are madman

It's an update pace I'm happy with :D

you must invade all your neighbours, then the Allies invade you... I noticed that resulting in the French landing :D

I'll be able to invade all my current neighbors after I deal with RoC :D

Anyway, I've been quite sleepy these last two days, so that's why I haven't updated at all, in fact, I have to play a little bit now to have something to write of!

I'll be able to invade all my current neighbors after I deal with RoC :D

Now I'm curious to see a "Greater China" overrunning most of Asia...

That's... rather uncertain

No matter how it goes, you guys are certainly up for some interesting read!
