Weekly Game Update

We played at Slow for most of the game with 9 players. We played from March 26 1350 to July 1 1354. Newest game MAP is up. I’ve purged and zipped the most recent game save which can be downloaded from here.

The players this session:
  • Traveler - King of Italy
  • Prime - King of Burgundy
  • Ear - King of Hungary
  • cheech - King of France
  • Blackeye - Emperor of Byzantium
  • KoM - King of Norway
  • Sterk - King of Poland
  • Lurken - King of Castille left early
  • Cyrus - King of Jerusalem
  • Dominus - King of England

We had 3 game stops. I’ll list the causes for each stop:
  • Cyrus CTD, not sure why
  • Sterk CTD, not sure why
  • cheech CTD, not sure why, we stopped here

We played at SLOW for most of the game due to a huge war. Lots of negotiating going on also with the game paused. Hence the passing of only 4 years since our last session. Role-playing was better this session although we did see some personal feelings come out.

I would like everyone to please understand what the goal of this game is. We want to go all the way to Vicky and maybe beyond if possible. That’s a huge undertaking and along the way players are going to get into wars with other players. Expect players to form alliances or get assurances from other players that they wont help or get involved in fights. Expect players to backstab and do incredibly underhanded things. Expect players to want to smash you into bits and make your realm worthless.

With that in mind be positive, accept your fate and plot to get back at the criminals that crushed you. Nothing lasts forever, enjoy your power but know that those who envy or fear that power will plot against you. The greatest aspect of MP games are the fact you’re dealing with real players who have their own agenda. Now, with all this in mind I am asking that everyone take a breath before the game, drop the attitude and enjoy. Name calling, out of character outbursts, foul language and poor gamesmanship will not be tolerated.

Open realms:
  • Kingdom of Bohemia
  • Kingdom of Cuman

Prime,

I hate to see you go, you were an awsome player and a good friend. I understand you felt picked on, but I don't think it's as bad as you're making it out to be.

In this last war you fought Norway at first which was a 2:1 fight with Poland helping you. Norway and I asked France to help against you which they did bringing Castille in against you, making it a 3:1 fight although Norway wasn't much of a threat as they were still on the defense.

Castille didn't like the war as it went, I assume after being pettitioned rather convincingly by Poland and you to back out. Castille did back out of the fight leaving Norway and France in it against you 2:1.

Norway had a better go as Italy, Byzantium and Hungary were wearing down Poland by this time a 3:1 fight. Alot of fighting all around. You should feel some sense of pride as no one can take you one on one. Same with Poland, it takes a huge coalition to take him on.

Sterk brought up a very good point, now that the AI is gone it's only natural we are going to fight. We are going to fight knowing the advantage we might gain or disadvantage we might force on another player.

I do sincerly hope you reconsider and choose to stick it out. Alliances change constantly and after this last mega conflict I'm sure my charmed existance is in danger. Well enough of my blather, see ya'll next session.

Traveler,

..

RP, I apologise if you felt picked on, but really, that's not what we were trying to do. Consider the geostrategic map from my perspective for a moment : I do not wish to expand into England, because people would rightly see me as a warmonger, and I certainly cannot attack you or Poland one-on-one. What options are left me, then, except to arrange alliances? And really, I do not quite understand why you are so angry. You lost three provinces in southern Germany, certainly well outside your core area, and Brittany, which you have promised to Dom since forever anyway. Also I am giving you Eu back, in exchange for your promise to recognise the Weser border. A few years of recovering your manpower - and you now have treaties with pretty much everyone, so it would be highly dishonourable to attack you - and Burgundy will again be a threat I view with extreme concern. (Hence, indeed, my arranging alliances against you. You're not being ganged because we like to pick on you, you're being ganged because I consider you a threat, and so do the people I approach for alliances. If Norway were as powerful as Burgundy, you would be able to gang me.)

As for being 'the most powerful nation north of the Alps', well, that may be true for the next few years while the Polish and Burgundian armies recover. But I did in fact lose about 80k men in this war, not to mention a shitload of money. And my technology is the worst of any player's! Come on, RP, when we get to EU you'll be the first to build a manufactory! That's an awesome advantage right there; not to mention all those rich dutch provinces.

Please don't quit on us; the game is much better for having you in it, and your nation is still a Great Power. I do think that perhaps you have not been exploring your diplomatic options as well as you might have. Have you thought about an alliance with England, for example? I'm sure Dom would love to get his hands on Iceland again, it is of considerable strategic importance in EU2. Likewise, Bohemia is obviously drooling over my German provinces; Joohoo just picked a bad time to jump into a war. Bide your time, and gang me with Poland, ENgland, and Boh on your side when Italy and France are distracted by Spain! It's only a question of time.

I do not mind being smashed to bits or loosing a war badly. I do mind being ganged up on for the last 10 sessions. That is 40-60 hours of playtime and the last few sessions I wasn't too enthusiastic anymore already.

Every war, except the civil wars and the Hungary/Poland war, has been fought against me with the outcome certain before they started.

edit: Thanks for the support guys, but as I said the game hasn't been fun to play for a while anymore. Maybe I will feel different as the week(s) progress. Also KoM what diplomatic options are there to explore when almost everyone on the map declares war on you time and again?

It is true. It is only a question of time before the Iberian realm wakes up and find that Italy is ruled by Mad Vlad, and need to put down a notch or two.

Hmm - I don't know that the War of Celleian Succession, to pick just one example, was a foregone conclusion. If Trav had been willing to commit fully, and fight against France and Spain, for example, I might well have been in real deep shit. Or if Sterk had been there, to fight my reinforcements from Finland. And of course, our tactics didn't help you any, what with the attrition; I lost as heavily, but my allies committed more than yours.

I really think we need RP's final answer on his status as of next session. For I would HIGHLY recommend that if RP decides not to play that such an important area of Europe MUST have a sub or new perm player immediately.

Uh, guys, I may be late tomorrow (I have guests overnight and I can't exactly tell them to get the hell out at 8 in the morning), so is there any way that somebody could sub me, like Workgroup?

Well, it seems there's certainly room for WG to sub someone, so if you want to show, please feel free! Also I got my Internet fixed yesterday, and it looks a lot more stable now. :)

using my fathers comp. i cant play today because my own pc seems permanently bugged (maybe a virus)! have fun today!!

RP, we need you as another player in the intrigues that are now flaring around the Baltic and North Sea. Dom killed Sterk's good heir, which caused major instability in the realm when Sterk had to change his succession law; having bribed his vassals, he is now looking for revenge, blood in his eye. I myself am not any too pleased with Sterk's spate of assassinations; if he does not leave the Yngling line alone, he will suffer the consequences. Meanwhile, there is war coming in the South as Italy and Spain clash over some slightly dubious Spanish inheritances. I'm sure there was no poison involved, but Trav won't listen to reason. In short, now's your chance for revenge. Lurken has even promised to give you back Nassau, that his AI took from yours before he showed.

Joohoo, that goes for you too. Where did you go?

Well that sucked. :D

Well Sterk, by my count, you attempted eight assassinations this session, and six were successful. Conversely, there was exactly one assassination used against you. It's not Dom's fault if his aim is better than yours.

Sorry friends, I came home Thursday and needed to meet some people after being away for a long time with some spaces.
Now I think I am ready to play again BUT it is Christmas Eve next Saturday and I won't play that day. Never in my life.

Ack, you're right! Gentlemen, are we playing on the 24th? I myself will not be able to show until, at the earliest, two hours into our usual playing time; I would not object to skipping the session entirely. And presumably those of oyu with families will wish to attend to them?

I will not attend the session on the 24th december. I will be with my brother and the rest of the family. So no can do.
