It doesn't matter, better a player who can't always make it than no player at all. Please stay Jarkko...
I think England deserves a player :) How ever, I will be around as a sub whenever I can, though the starting time is a bit too early for me...

Sorry to lose you, Jarkko. Though it bodes well for Norwegian ambitions to push Harald Hardråde's claim to the throne of England, I suppose. :D

On another subject, people, what patch are we going to be using this weekend? The May 13 one seems to have some issues with the plague, maybe we should wait for next week's to upgrade?

I say May 13! Many, many improvements. I don't care if half my family dies of the plague, I want kickass child events.

As of now....I rather go with the May 5 patch, then the plague buggy patch.
You gain some good things in the latest beta, but not enough to counter the plague issue.

Weekly Game Update

Sorry so Late

We played at Below Normal for most of the game with 6 players. We played from January 1 1094 to January 2, 1110.

The players this session:
  • KoM - King of Norway
  • Sterkarm - King of Poland
  • Lurken - King of Castille
  • Capitan - King of Hungary
  • Traveler - Duke of Apulia
  • Kle - Duke of Pereyaslavl

Not that many crashed, but enough to annoy. Sorry about posting this so late. I would encourage you all to write AAR’s. For those of you that have, thank you. The AAR’s ad flavor to the game and if you haven’t done it much it is a lot of fun telling a story.

Also, I would like to see more diplomacy posts. I know there has to be some serious scheming going on, why not make some threats, warnings, declarations to highlight your brilliant leadership. I know ya’ll have it in ya, so share it with the rest of us.

I hope we can come to an agreement on what patch version to go with. Tomorrow is game day. Hope to see ya’ll there. Hmm since we’re on the subject, why don’t we take a quick tally of who’s intending on playing tomorrow as well as what patch they think we should use.

“I’m definitely going to be there, and I’d like the May 5 patch.”.

I can't very well write an AAR considering I have no idea what happened past 1104. Why did you guys go so long?! That's unfair to those of us who had to leave at the session end time. Completely unfair. I want to see the save to figure out exactly how much damage you did to my country. Boleslaw might have had another, better son but if Boleslaw died, the worse son (Odon) would have inherited due to me not being there to make changes... why didn't you just end when we agreed, considering half of the players were missing?

Also, I vote for May 13th with Mr. T's latest fixes.

Sterk,

You're right, I should have called the game at our agreed end time. I do hope nothing is too amiss for your country. I'm on ICQ if you want to get the save. That goes for anyone really. Again I appoligize and I won't let it happen again.

Traveler,

Weekly Game Update

We played at Below Normal for most of the game with 8 players. We played from January 2, 1110 to October 17, 1120.

The players this session:
  • KoM - King of Norway
  • Sterkarm - King of Poland
  • Lurken - King of Castille
  • Capitan - King of Hungary
  • Traveler - Duke of Apulia
  • Kle - Duke of Pronsk
  • Prime - Duke of Flanders
  • Blackeye - King of Byzantium
  • workgroup - King of England

The typical annoying crashes. We welcomed two new players, Blackeye and “workgroup something”. Pretty good game.

Again, I look forward to seeing posts in the Diplomacy as well as the AAR threads. Till next weekend, take care.

Good game all! It was very tense and in the end we (Kle, Sterk and me) managed to whip some pagans into submission.

And thanks to Sterk for giving BB a face :p

Will get busy writing an AAR for this session as well as some diplomacy.

Sanmartin,

You are welcome, I see you've read the thread starter. Meet next weekend in Vnet or on ICQ. Look forward to seeing you there.

(Workgroup)

Very nice game, enjoyed it even though I only caught the last half an hour of it.

Satisfied with my accomplishments in Ireland, watch out Wales - after some BB recovery!

hiya guys... a possibility that I may be able to join up again. if that is the case i'll show up on ICQ before hand. preferably i'd like to take up Jerusalem.

Sure why not....but I would rather see a german duke playing. To counter the current absence of human player in Central Europa (France & Germany) or to counter Poland, Hungery, Byzantium, Norway, England and Flandern. Otherwise it could become free for all if and when HRE implodes.

Another thing....is using external ledgers, of any sort, to find potentiall brides and so and so, cheating? IMHO it is. What is your opinion my comrades in the March through Time.

I don't think it is cheating to use external programs. After all, nothing stops you going through the save by hand with a search function, or just loading up the game and clicking on every court in Europe, during the week. An external program just speeds up that process. Besides, how else can I take advantage of my 1337 hax0ring skillz? :p

Welcome back, Lotus, hope to see you there, and also hope Trav's machine can handle 11 players! As for KoJ, we could surely use a Middle Eastern player to stop Byz marching all the way to Persia; and perhaps comrade sanmartin would care for a German duchy?

If it doesn't work maybe I can host. 'Cause I'm sitting on a nominal 10/2 MB down/up cable and a rather good CPU. It is a suggestion.

Hmm not sure that I agree with you KoM. I suppose the only thing stopping you from doing all that during the week should be you. I mean playing multiplayer like this I just assume people do not try and take advantage of flaws and cheats. I am also way too lazy to check up on people and I prefer to trust people.

So my vote goes for no external programs.

Well, let me rephrase : I do not think it is cheating to look through the courts of Europe for a suitable marriage, even during the week, so I don't think it matters what technique you use to do so. Now, loading up as a rival is plainly cheating, but loading up as yourself and offering a marriage to every court in Europe to see what they have, well, why not? I can't be bothered, myself, but I don't see why you shouldn't do it if you were so inclined. It's not that big an advantage; if somebody is so dedicated to our game as all that, more power to them!

By the way, I know that nobody ever reads a first post, and anyway Trav hasn't updated the rules section, so let me summarise the rules we have agreed on for the benefit of our new players :

  • Gentlemanly conduct is required at all times. You are certainly permitted to ravage another player's kingdom, carry off his daughters and his treasure, kill his armies, and force him to sign a humiliating peace; but be polite about it. No swearing, no name-calling.
  • No diplomacy with the country of a player who isn't present - this is less important in CK, of course, with its limited diplo options. Also, no DOWing an AI'd player country; if it DOWs you, you can defend yourself and take a province or two, but no total rapings. However, a player who is often absent may find the rest of us not enforcing this rule any too strenuously.
  • If you attack a country, you must have roleplay reason for it, and it must be publicly stated. It doesn't have to be a good reason; "He laughed when my horse stumbled at my recent tournament" will do. But some kind of reasoning is needed. Also, you'll probably find it easier to garner support for an attack on a player country if your reason has some kind of ingame relevance.
  • You cannot grab a Duke or King title from an excommunicated ruler; this is to avoid gaminess where the Papal Controller excomms someone purely for the purpose of getting claims. You are permitted to grab a claim, to any title, from someone who isn't excommed; if you have that much prestige, some nice King claims are your natural reward. Also note that you can grab as many Count titles as you care to, even from an excommed ruler, and you can always usurp a title.
  • Avoid AFKs. By Murphy's Law, we will always crash in the middle of one, and then the rest of us are stuck waiting for our one AFK player. If it's something really unavoidable, ok, but at least give notice, and be prepared to find we've crashed and gone on without you. And AFKs of the style "watching the TV in the other room at the same time" is really a bit rude. We're here to play, not watch you watching TV.

Above all, be cheerful! Nobody is out to get you. Your lands, yes, your daughters if they are hot, your treasury, certainly. But it's nothing personal! We just want to reduce you to vassalage, so your children will be servants of our children forever. Smile, and hide that dagger. :)

Lurken - I understand your concern for a power vacuum in Central Europe w/ no human in Germany... but KoJ just sounds so damn fun! Plus, like KoM said, hopefully that other guy will be Saxony, Brandenburg, Bavaria or some other Duchy.
