why can't just I forge or buy my own valyrian steel sword? Do I have to steal it ?

You can get a quest to obtain one if you have the ambition to gain one, and then you can later reforge it to give it a name and unique picture. Always quite liked that, but I've always much preferred the idea of taking a famed sword from another's family. Say, burning Winterfell to the ground, executing the Starks and taking Ice for myself. Muahaha.
Also there's that minimod to edit Valyrian blades from firelordzuko which I haven't managed to try out yet but sounds very cool.
Oh and speaking of Valyrian swords, anyone come across Stranger's Mercy? Interesting little addition. Am I right in thinking it isn't canon? Quite nice either way.
I think Stranger's Mercy is one of the reforgeable ones. I left it in because it's too fucking awesome not to have. Really, if there is any sword atoning!Sandor should bear, it's Stranger's Mercy! Same goes for everyone else, of course, but mostly Sandor.
Sandor should stab Tommen in the face and take Widow's Wail from him, much better sword. Assuming he's alive that is.
Naa, Tommen is badass, don't ya know? Remember that one time he seduced Jeyne Poole into surrendering Highgarden to him so he could marry Arya and attack Littlefinger and Daenerys in Tyrosh?
I remember it well. His attack on Tyrosh was almost as awesome as the time when Ned Stark was revealed as alive and well leading the Golden Company alongside Jon Snow. It made the storyline so much better after Edmure Tully joined forces with Stannis Baratheon and had Tyrion and Samwell Tarly hanged.
Well I for one am still mad about Tyrion turning out to be Joffrey's father :/ that made it much creepier when he murdered Young Griff, due to their shared Targ blood. Of course, the same Targ blood actually helps account for Joff being such a little shit. Doesn't make it any easier to believe that Cersei is Azor Ahai, she would have fit Rh'llor better due to that whole dualism thing she's got going on with Jaime. Who knows, perhaps Brienne turns out to be the Princess Who Was Promised yet?
Spoiler: Samwell is not really dead. He faked his death so he can kill his father with his bare hands and take Heartsbane. Then, he secreted to the Summer Isles with his harem of beautiful admirers and took over after just two weeks. Hodor is now his footstool.
I tried to reforge my Valyrian sword that was so hard to get, but the idiot smith destroyed it instead. Had him executed, of course
The smith stole House Redwyne's sword and ran away to Plankytown of all places. And we worked so hard to get it. So we wasted a faceless man favor on him.
You can also find an unnamed one on a battlefield after a battle. Happened in my previous game.
I have been playing the game of thrones mod without any problems for weeks now. Yesterday my game froze on me so I had to hard reset my computer. I tried to go back into the mod, and it started loading and everything. The second that it finished loading the game crashed and I got "ck2 quit unexpectedly" I can ignore, report, or reopen, I reopen and my screen says "error, the working directory doesn't seem to be correct". Now I tried deleting all of my mod folders and replacing them etc. Any idea how to fix this? Thanks.
Wait for it to update; a new vanilla patch just came out.
Too bad he missed Stannis communing with Bran, who told him to go rescue his sister. Stannis and Davos had a bromance all the way to the Vale, wherein astute readers learned that GRRM is secretly a fan of The Hangover. Then Selyse died so Stannis married Sansa. He expected girly tears when he shoved her fake father out the Moon Door. He did not expect...well, I shan't say on a board that might be frequented by children. It was good to see at least one loving relationship flourish in Westeros.

No reason you couldn't, just mentioned Steam because people usually have trouble with mod incompatibility thanks to automatic updates.
It makes use of Windows system restore feature, as someone already mentioned (and which I suppose I should've mentioned in my original message). If you have a suitable restore point, you should be able to revert no problem. Just see for yourself if it's possible to roll back the folder to a point before you applied the patch.
Look at the lore the mod is based on. You can't forge one because the secrets to making Valyrian steel were lost with the doom. And nobody is willing to sell their ancestral sword. It's mentioned in ASoS that Tywin has been trying to buy one from a impoverished house for quite a while with no takers. I'm out on a limb, but I would bet that Tywin (in universe) is willing to offer more Dragons than you have.
It's pretty much stated that the ancestral swords are worth much, much more than the daughters of the house.
Which would be why you can't just buy one from a Westerosi Lord. Can you still get the event where a trader offers to sell you one for like 1000 dragons? I haven't seen it since they introduced the Valyrian quest. Did they take it out? Also, has anyone ever bought a real sword from it? All of mine have been frauds.
