The changes to Iran are barebones this time. (I am copying my main points from another comment i did last Open beta post)

Uninspired Army and Navy focuses. The imperial guard and immortal focuses just give some uninteresting divisions, some national spirits would have given more flavour in this regard. The past few dlcs have had army navy and Air Force spirits for countries that can be upgraded with more focuses. That was sorely missing from Iran imo. The Iranian navy had two Sloops (Babr and Palang) but they are now nowhere to be found. I do like the airforce focused with the unique spirit and the different choices. Since Iran is a mountainous country, a mountaineer bonus other than a research would be nice. Airborne special forces (NOHED) participated in the Dhofar rebellion so maybe some bonus for paratroopers. A nod to Mohammad Taqi Pessian could be cool.

The fascist path would make more sense to be the Azure Party with their leader Ḥabib-Allāh Nowbaḵt or the more famous Fazlollah Zahedi. Maybe Sumka could be another path alongside the Azure Party.

The communist path seems better with the additions, I like the inclusion of releasing Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and Kurdistan but they should be called Azerbaijan People's Government and Republic of Mahabad respectively. The bonuses you get from the communist navy and airforce trees are very boring. Some army bonuses could be cool to reference that Iranian marines were somewhat trained by Soviet OSNAZ. And i really do not like the debuffing your generals with the politically connected trait.

I like the additions to the Democratic path, wish a bit more could be added to the Islamic Republic, maybe references to the IRGC with army bonuses.

Problem with Iran is that the surrounding nations it can invade are protected by the British. There needs to be minor war systems like the winter war so Iran doesn’t need to do a world conquest for trying to take over Kuwait or something.

There needs to be more to the Azari and Kurdish resistance than clicking one focus and deleting it. Maybe cooperation in some of the paths with the prize of unlocking new advisors, or gaining extra manpower.

I like the addition of more resources.

When I saw the Fund university focuses i thought they would be more interesting than just research bonuses. I do like how they are 35 days now tho.

The Iranian advisors are so bland and boring, same with the industrial concerns and MIOs, like even Afghanistan got some unique traits for the MIOs. And why does the motorized MIO (Iranian National Corp) not have a unique art?

Personally im not a fan of National Spirits that expire and it seems like Iran has a lot of these

Minor things to add more flavor would have been names for Tanks, Aircrafts and Special Projects. As well as having names for the Divisions you start the game off with

No art for Field Officers besides the one?? Ok now more portraits are added to the field officers but they are the old generic middle eastern ones, thats just as bad as before, cause most of them just look Arab. I do like the extra generals.

These are just some things I’d like fixed at the top of my head. As a Persian I’ve been waiting for Iran to be represented well in this game since the release of HOI and I’m disappointed at what we got for Iran. And I really wished Turkey could have been touched up on since they are an important player in the region (I do like the inclusion of the Sadabad pact very much).

Saving designs across games is great, but you know what I realized today? You know what I'd also really want to have?

I want an export/import button for the trait queue for MIOs!

will Iraq not get changes to its content? Also, the Saadabad tree, while good, has been nerfed this time, while not changing the fact it gives you stuff you already have, like Oil as Iran and Chromium as Turkey... If this is not the last update that is changing the content, then that's fine.

Also, I'm still going to see what has been added to the communist branch for India, and yet I'm wondering if a proper loyalist India path can be added considering many people asked for and showed interest in playing it? Or is it out of questio?

So I was right with my prediction for the beta upgrade today :)
(...)
  • Iran
    • Added two new generals
    • Fixed generic portraits not showing in the pool of Iranian Officers (...)
1) Just to avoid a possible confusion: The two new generals (which put up the count to 9 in total) were already present in the first beta (though as placeholders, using the generic portrait, and with a placeholder string in their name) and have now received unique portraits and show their name w/o placeholder formation.

2) The fix here extends also to the similar issue with Admirals. While the style of old generic pics graphically rather bites with the add new one both in case of division commanders and admirals, this is still way better than having just a single pic endlessly cloned...

(Mostly a repost from the prior open beta post cause these didnt get implemented)

Iran's focus tree really needs another look, way too many of the focuses are 70 days and it really ruins the gameplay flow of playing them. It makes playing them super obnoxious. Changing a few more econ or political focuses to 35 would do wonders for them.

Another more minor thing that'd make the dlc feel a little better to play is taking a second look at the British guarantee of Iraq. It's existence makes most expansion in this dlc basically impossible, as you'd need to fully cap Britain just to get Iraq alone. Maybe if there was a gap between the British guarantee existing and them being in the axis/puppeted it'd play a little better, but at the moment Iraq goes right from British guarantee -> axis in 1939 (which is way too early btw)

One last thing, I think itd be really appreciated if the Iranian and Afghani achievements had their requirements changed from "ownership" to "occupation." The current implementation requires you to fully cap both the allies and axis just to get their achievements, which only exacerbates the problems with the gameplay flow and lack of any white peace events/British Iraq guarantee.

That Taha al-Hashimi and Hussein Fawzi, stay on for Kurdistan as generals also doesn't make that much sense, Hussein was from Mosul but I think he was Arab,. Baqr Sidqiwas Kurdish maybe make him stay loyal. But in general that focus tree doesn't make sense. Kurdistan jut taking on the whole of Arab Iraq and then after victory, no Kurdification, no resistance, the country just becomes Kurdistan? I think it would be good to have another focus before to ally with the Communist Party of Iraq and thereby have support in the Shia territories. And then the Sunni-West had to be pacified after the Civil war and recored.

Be kinda cool if it was just automatic per what they build. It doesnt really make sense in some cases if you build X but can get unrelated bonuses for Y.

I see that after this patch, dev diaries for the next DLC are already being planned again.. I just hope that the state of the game will continue to be worked on before the next DLC.

One of the two main criticism of Götterdämmerung was that player freedom was taken away by removing countless historical generals and locking them behind focus trees, effectively forcing players to go through them just to regain content they previously had. Even though this criticism appeared dozens of times in the dev diaries and feedback sections—with exclusively positive ratings, over and over - it was completely ignored.

The idea itself isn’t entirely bad, but it’s obvious that the amount is simply too much—especially considering that Germany really doesn’t have that many generals for a major nation. It would already help to bring back at least some of the removed generals, so that players have a bit more freedom in focus selection.

Btw. Germany could need some more generals in general.

Performance

According to the Steam surveys, my system is above average: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, RTX 4080 Super, 32 GB RAM 3600mhz C16, Samsung M.2 990 Pro.
But after Graveyard of Empires, I experienced a noticeable late game performance drop—probably due to the new mandate countries, more mios, more content, bigger and more focus trees, and more calculations etc.

Is there any plan to improve performance?

Nice to have more updates, but this is still lacking, not to mention that there's stuff that has been added that doesn't even work properly, so once again I'll gice some feedback:
Iraq/Kurdistan
- The first focus of the Saadabad branch doesn't invite all the historical members, instead leaving out Iraq or Afghanistan depending on who takes the focus.
- The final focuses require you to be in a faction thogether with the members of the pact, but there's no way to turn the Saadabad Pact into a Faction
- Ferzende Begê Hesenî, Kurdish general you get during the civil war, still lacks a unique portrait, he is the guy in the middle of the photo
1744822969009.png

- Add Xalis Begê Sîpkî, the guy on the left of photo, as another Kurdish general
- Change the name of the focus to "Arm the Peshmerga", so the mil factories given represent a push to better arm the new Kurdish army
- Change the Art of the National Army spirit if you become Kurdistan to better fit with it, since the current one is Iraq specific
- More generals/admirals for Iraq, for which I advise to look up Duke_Dave's posts
- Democratic Iraq should be able to A) Annex the puppets it can get B) Directly annex the countries instead of puppeting them

Iran
- Give us back the decision to form the Persian Empire formable so we can reform it in any path, similar to how Austria still has the decision to form the Austro-Hungarian Empire even tho they can reform it through their Imperial branch
- Modify the Fascist branch to instead focus on the Azure Party.

Afghanistan
- If we are given the Pakistani territories by taking the focus "Propose confederation with Pakistan" we should get all the Pakistani characters in the game (Generals, Admirals and Advisors)
- Make it more likely for India to accept to give us Pakistan if we are together in the Allies

Is it possible that a few more generals could be added to Iraq?

I don't know if it is "a bug or a feature", but while playing as Hachemite Iraq, Turkey suddenly declared on me over Hatay (as Syria was my pupper).

Maybe the overlord of Syria should receive the event giving the choice between giving Hatay or war with Turkey, or at least the overlord should have a pop-up alert that war with Turkey is brewing or something ?

Second point : both Turkey and me we're in the Sadabad pact, and we both kept the bonuses during the war, and kept it after the war (I just couldn't start Sadabad focuses during the war).

Once again, it might not be a bug, but I get that some players might find it weird.

As much as I'm excited for Japan's dlc with navy rework there are still a lot of bug fixes to be done and I dearly hope you won't limit the focused efforts on damage control for the latest dlc.
