Can somebody explain very quickly what is the point of SPAA-powered space marines? Why this option is so popular, especially as opposed to SPG or normal tank variants?
To take advantage of the combat equations, basically.

Armor (and piercing) of the highest value unit counts extra (the average of the division contributes 60%, but one unit contributes 40% of the stat!) in battle calculations, so one souped-up unit will carry extra weight on those 2 stats.

So having an oddball “optimized” unit thrown in there you can increase certain stats a bit unnaturally without affecting the average stats too much…

If you make it AA, you optimize a little less, but you also get to hit CAS. It seems most people decided the trade off is worth it.

To give you another example, I used to play where I would convert my light tanks to add fuel drums, then put my light tanks exclusively on recon brigades (slow recon units didn’t affect division speed, so I could even skip all the speed upgrades on the light tanks), so my armored divisions would have extra fuel reserves in combat without slowing down my medium tanks with fuel drums. I forgot about that trick before just now. I wonder if that still works with the latest combat meta.

Can someone explain how to form the Nordic Council playing fascist Iceland? Desc says that I must have "Is Faction Leader", but Iceland does not have National Spirit to create factions...

Iceland is impossible to create nordic counci due to not having the spirt to create faction, unless you cheat via console command.

How to retreat on a block
Do you mean a tile / single province? Simply select the units on the tile and right click a neighbouring tile - if done out of combat you'll see a yellow arrow, if done during combat you'll see a dark grey arrow.

Sometimes, for both valid and other times buggy reasons, units will not be able to retreat to certain neighbouring tiles. For example, units following the last stand order cannot retreat whilst under its effects. The game will tell you this in the tooltip as you hover over the tile.

Hi! If I want to edit tthe academy spirits, where can I find them? When I try to edit the ones in the common/ideas/zzz_army_spirits.txt etc. it doesn't do anything.
Similar question about the SS divisions menu. Can't alter the spawning requirements in the events/SS_events.txt. Thank You.

I'm away on holiday and can't play the game right now. I'm guessing on return I should probably turn my machines wifi off? Otherwise my old savegames will not work, AND as someone who only uses the free DLCs, I won't really gain any significant bug fixes.

You can just opt to rollback to 1.15.4 in the beta tab of the "properties" of hoi4. I'd do this before launching the game.

Hi all,

Was trying to reproduce a bug for a bug report and I think I've stumbled upon another bug. Posted here to hopefully get a quick answer.

After completing the 'Two-Nation Theory' focuses in the Graveyard of Empires India Focus Tree and becoming free (in the autonomy sense), how do you keep the princely states (that appear after becoming free) from joining Pakistan? I tried a combination of different focuses and it seems that they will always join Pakistan, after a timed decision is completed.

Edit: Nevermind, found several more bugs, definitely bugged/unintuitive.

Some questions about Brazilian achievements.

Here I'm communist Brazil who split the world with the USSR (Axis and Sphere got defeated first, then we mopped up the Allies and China). I'm planning to attack the Comintern to get the 'world conquest as Brazil' achievement.
I would like to ask about trigger conditions for two Brazilian achievements I still don't have: "And the snake smoked" (cap Germany while in the Allies) and "Snakes on a plane" (capture Rome with paratroopers).
For the first one, I can release UK as puppet and create a faction (which will count for Allies code-wise), but this Germany is not the true German tag (a dynamic tag created by Soviets when puppeting Germany), the true tag went to the British puppet when they initially split Germany after Axis was killed. Does this matter for the achievement? (Will this "Germany" count?)
For the second one, Italy is also not a true tag, but from what I can gather that's not important for the achivement. I'm interested whether the capture of Rome really needs to be a paradrop or I can just walk in there with paratroopers or even just station paratroopers there once it's already captured.

Also, what other achievements are freebies when I complete the WC? I know "House of Kurds" is a common one (just release Kurdistan as independent and play as), what else? Besides obvious ones like the Gibraltar-Singapore railroad.

The code says
  1. The state ownership should change from ITA to BRA tags. Depending on what happened to the original tag, ITA may have not changed one. Type tdebug into the console and see the tag that owns Lazio. If ITA is some dynamic tag then alas it's too late. Since you're on Ironmen search for @General Tao instruction on how to open Ironman saves in non-Ironman mode.
  2. You only need to have 2 para div of 1 bn at least placed in Lazio at the moment Lazio changes control. The change of control of all Lazio state not just Rome province.

The code says
  1. You need to be in faction with ENG tag. So you need to be able to release into exactly this one or it's too late.
  2. GER should be capped but you don't need to do it yourself. But it needs to be capped, there might be ways to dispose of the tag without capping.
  3. And you need to control only Brandenburg province not the whole GER proper.

Have a look in /common/achievements.txt. Notepad++ or something similar will be helpful to search all files in folder hierarchy. The answer to your first question is in bba_on_actions actually, achievements only use the flag.

I've had a bunch of Axis jerks trapped on this island but have been unable to cross despite easily having naval superiority.

When I select one unit and attempt to move it manually, it gives this tooltip indicating that the strait is blocked by an enemy fleet.

And even with a (somewhat diminutive) fleet parked manually in the sea tile I can't move units over, nor does the navy ever engage. What can I do to take this area? I'm building a marine invasion army now but I think my having mined the area to 100% might have confused the game?

You have to put your fleet on Patrol mission, spot the enemy and destroy him or drive him away.

I have naval superiority. And have been patrolling for months. And am able to do naval invasions. I just can't attack across the straits for some reason. This is a new Finland game and don't have 100% mines this time so I don't believe that's the cause of the issue, but wondering if perhaps _any_ mines jack up the pathing/accessibility??

Naval 'superiority' is only a throttle for naval invasions, period. A fleet on Hold can block straits regardless of that. As per your screenshot, they clearly have 5-7 ships (most likely submarines), and you even have some progress to spotting those. Detach a decent spotting ship into a separate task force, and you should find them. Alternatively, bomb the area with planes.
