From time to time you get people visit court with useful claims against other places, but how do you make use of these claims? Pay for them to join the court? Do you have to marry them to a close family member? If so, do they have to be able to have kids to give you a shot at keeping the claim?

You need to either recruit them with gold or give them some land/marry them to someone in your court. Once you've done that you're free to press whatever claims they have.

The game isn't set up to do that easily. You would have to create a mod.

Here's a question of my own. I often come to the point where the number of levies has maxxed out before it reaches its nominal limit. Where can I see the factors that are keeping the levies below the limit?

This is a bug. Raise and disband your levy instantly and they will start replenishment again. Annoying but hopefully a fix soon.

What is actually the difference between leasing and owning with regards to the realm priest? What would be different if the realm priest just owns all bishoprics and they are inherited via clerical appointment?

I think the main distinction is that your realm priest is not landed, and cannot fight wars and so on. And, in wars you as a ruler are controlling it from a defense/warscore standpoint.

I checked. Level of devotion doesn't show up int the tooltip, but it's not connected to the language settings:

Is anybody else experiencing this "issue"? Just a minor thing, I know.

@Mrop :
Are you using an internal build for screenshots by chance?

Might be that I looked at myself, or that I looked at our current latest build yes.

So just to be clear, you're saying the HRE/Byzantium/Roman Empire cannot be renamed without breaking the formula? Surely this is a bug and not WAD, right?

Well, it depends on your perspective :) It works as intended (so it will replace Kingdom of X by Sultanate of X as cultures change), it just doesn't have the feature of being able to override that prefix.

About Vassal managment. Something just happened which I think i really should understand the reason for going forwards:

I conquered a new county and granted it to my daughter's spouse, lets call him björn.

Björns father(Ruler of sweden) then died. Sweden got a new ruler, björn's sister. And the county which I just conquered became swedish and is no longer part of my realm.

How do that happen and how do I avoid it?

He inherited a title that was of a higher rank than the one he already had, so he then takes on the liege that this title had(so then in this case no liege At all/independent).

The only way to avoid this is, as far as I'm Aware, to just not give titles to someone that's in line to inherit a higher tier title from outside your realm

Edit:wait nvm this doesn't make sense if his sister became queen. Did he still get a duchy title during the succession?

I'm posting it as a bug, no way it can be WAD. Replacing "Byzantine" in the "Byzantine Empire" title shouldn't permanently screw it up.

Some structures give Realm bonuses to military units, such as hunting grounds improving light cavalry in your Realm. If I build the same structure in multiple counties do the bonuses stack?

Did Björn inherit a Swedish duchy? If his new primary title is a vassal of Sweden then he will be a vassal of Sweden, and since the game will only permit a character to have one liege all his territory will become a de facto part of the Kingdom of Sweden.

Are you sure it works like that? In CK2 it is determined by who was the liege first, so if a count under you inherits a duchy somewhere he would remain your vassal if you are of a sufficient rank to have duke-tier vassals (so king or above). OP, did Björn inherit a title of an equal or higher tier as your own? That would explain why he is no longer your vassal and you lost the county.

How do I upgrade tribal holdings to feudal holdings as a feudal lord? I searched every nook and cranny, but no dice.
You need the necessary tech and requirements to do so.
The quickest way so far primarily to raise tech is to raise the overall DEVELOPMENT in every county that contains your culture. You have to use your steward and have him raise the development of your baronies ADGACENT TO AS MANY OTHER COUNTIES AS POSSIBLE. This will give all surrounding counties a development (neighboring) boost when it levels up. Make sure that your leader has a high learning skill and you can use his wife also to help give the extra boost.
When you pick your focus with a new ruler, start with the LEARNING skill and pick SCIENTIFIC.
When highlighting Tribal and the description says that it does not give any bonus, they only mean that you do not get extra taxes or levies BUT it does contribute to tech speed.

Maybe someone asked this already or there's info about it somewhere but:

Why does your liege never pick you to be a knight? I switched characters to see if i was an option and there i am...at the top of the list. For lols i "forced" myself to be a knight and switched back to my character.
Sure enough, i was in full armor but a couple of days afterwards i was back in my normal attire.
What gives?

He got a jarldom under swedish control. But ok, so it is dangerous for vassals to be granted titles in succession. I still find it a little weird, felt like he should have had to chose between his new possible lieges. Not just run of with a newly conquered territory without conflict.

Yes, realm bonuses on buildings will stack. One thing to note, though, is that if you build those buildings in a vassal's land, it may give him the realm bonus for those military units, but not you. That's an interesting question that probably requires confirmation from a developer.

If a vassals buildings also count for then a big empire with a lot Of duchies would get a ludicrously superpowered retinue,so I think it's safe to say that vassal buildings shouldn't count.

Hello to everyone, a small bug (i think)?

In two differents saves, when me and my ally fight the same enemy (not in the same war, just being at war with the same enemy at the same time) and our armies meet in the enemy's land, they fight each other =/

Just want to know if it's a bug or it happens to other people too
I've always find it a bit sketchy as a thing, but you know...

I'm still figuring out the tutorial island + Tanistry combo. The only time I got it "right" was when that dude Murchad had all but his oldest son disinheritted and the heir was able to inherit all original titles.

On my 2nd attempt, Murchad had like 10 sons so the heir only got the kingdom title, a random duchy, and a random county I think. That was before the latest patch went out so I started a new game.

On my 3rd attempt, I switched to Tanistry for both the kingdom and "main" duchy title (the one that has the original county). I picked one other son as the heir (he has highest stats and is way younger than the oldest son). Then when Murchad died, he got the kingdom + duchy title (as expected) + a totally random county (not the original capital).

Questions:

  1. Does that mean I have to pick the oldest son as the heir in order to secure the original county?
  2. What's the best practice for dividing up the titles before dead? Aside from disinheritting/imprisoning a bunch of sons?

I'm not sure if this has been asked yet, but is there a way to get a cultural prefix for your House name when you give it a custom name?

From what I can tell, characters belonging to a randomly generated house get a prefix (like von, of, van or di.) added to their name dependant on the culture (of whom?), while the house in question is still missing it. For example, the starting count of Innsbruck in 867 is 'Gundakar von Innsbruck', but the house itself is just called 'House Innsbruck'. That's a pretty cool feature, but it seems to get disabled if you give your dynasty a custom name.

Given the death rate among knights, you should be grateful!
Not really. Most knighs have a prowess of 15 or less. I was over 30. Also, if you don't want to risk it, you could always say that battlefields are not your cup of tea at the cost of some approval or prestige and go back to whatever your education and focus are.

I've formed the empire of Italia, why do I not have c.b. to conquer/vassalise independent counts/dukes/kings owning titles that are de jure part of the empire? Missing a tech?

Question: What does it mean if a character Traits icon frame is pulsing/highlighted?
