You have to have a complete copy of leaders and ministers in the moddir for it to load. I'd assume there are some more subtle bugs as well.

I think going forward that some sort of mod tool that is used to load the right files is the way to go. I don't really plan to try figuring out what is and isn't possible with moddir for Doomsday.

Even for single player HOI2 moddir can frustrate people. I have to put empty ai files in the vanilla ai directory to get some of the modded ones to load.

My recommendation is to look into the JSGME mentioned by anti-commi.

not every thing in the wiki has been updated for doomsday, or even updated since 1.2 HOI2

Multiplayer would take some effort. It should work if everyone had the same files, but I don't know if it can be done from moddir.

It should be creating leaders. It actually creates mostly empty files to mask out the default leaders from the vanilla game. The actual leaders for the mod should all be in the csa.csv file.

I have only owned hoi2 so.... :)
I type in the command where I believe where I am supposed to and I have tried many diffrent variations of the one you gave me, but none of them work. It gives me an error message. I dont know what to do and I very much appreciate all of the help that is given. It means alot to me!

I've just tried out the JSGME utility and it is a better way to start the mod than moddir. It also comes with much better instructions than I can give for moddir, which seems to work differently for different people.

Basically you run it once and it makes a MODS folder. Then you put the folder that the scenario generator makes into the MODS folder. Run JSGME again and select the mod to load it. After that starting the game normally will start it with the modded files.

I can't remember where I downloaded it, just google JSGME and it shows up.

The mod loads and runs with Doomsday, but doesn't play well. The at start units aren't being produced so the ai is sitting around waiting to build units before doing anything.

I did the following:

1. Extract the RandRoadProject.zip into an folder
2. Started the RandRoadProject.exe
3. Fiddeled with the options and created a scenario RandRoad36
4. Copied the RandRoad36 --> ai folder and overwrote the vanilla ai (backup exists)
5. Did the same with RandRoad36 --> db folder
6. Did the same with RandRoad36 --> scenarios folder
7. Changed the shortcut to ""C:\Programme\Paradox Interactive\Kopie von HoI 1.3\HoI2.exe" RandRoad36

Will it work?

You don't need to overwrite the vanilla files if you are using moddir. You leave all the mod files in the RandRoad36 directory and put that directory in the game folder. Then you add RandRoad36 to the shortcut target.

It should work after that. This way each time you make a new scenario you only need to copy the new folder to the game folder and change the shortcut to point to the new folder.

I think the JSGME program is easier to use. It also makes it easier to manage many other mods with a single game installation.

I tested this again with Doomsday. The generated scenarios work fine with HOI2 1.3 or Doomsday 1.0. There are no spies to start with, but everything else is normal and the intelligence options are available.

In Doomsday 1.2 the ai won't use the at start units the generator creates. The ai waits to develop its own units before it will declare wars. This makes for a three or four month period of inactivity.

I'm not sure what I will end up with, but for now you can generate scenarios for HOI2 1.3, or Doomsday 1.0.

I don't plan to try out multiplayer.

My understanding is that each player must have the same version of all the files for it to work. If that is true it should be possible for players to load up the same random scenario and play a game.

I don't think multiplayer works with moddir. If that is true then some other method of loading the modded files into the game would be necessary.

JSGME is a possibility, but due to my earlier testing with the engine and the modswitcher, JSGME has this nagging tendency to leave files behind, or to overwrite the wrong files, screwing things up. I have some experience with the little utility, having brought it to the Total War community after some testing, and having used it in SHIII, but in HoI2, it seems to have difficulties in accounting for every file, and quite often ends up completely screwing up some files (For example, when it was packed with SRTDD in the earlier versions). JSGME is awesome in most games, I've tried it in nearly every game on my comp, but it seems that when it touches HoI2, it abandons all sanity and works in a way it shouldn't. That's why I'm partial to numerous copies.

Thanks for the info. I haven't noticed any problems with it JSGME, but I haven't had time to use it a lot. I wondered how it would behave after several times loading and unloading various mods. The problem is that moddir also doesn't work as expected from time to time and is more difficult to set up for some people.

Numerous copies of the game is the easiest, safest way to go if people have the space and don't mind using it. When I play this mod I generally start with a fresh copy of a vanilla 1.3 installation and copy all the files over the originals.

I've just been looking for a way to avoid having people replace their original files because some are much less comfortable doing that than others.

I just uploaded the latest version for Doomsday. It has an option for each country to have a random number of spies in each other country. I also fixed the problem with the at start units not showing up in Doomsday. So there are now spies available and the wars start quickly in the first couple of weeks.

Everything else works as before by not selecting the Doomsday checkbox.

As far as playing the game: I usually copy my vanilla game directory into a new directory and call it RandRoadHOI2, and then copy all the generated files over the originals. I delete this directory after each game and start over, because the generator uses the same series of id's each time and that can cause problems.

I've also used JSGME, a mod swapping utility easily found with google. It worked well for me, but others have mentioned problems.

I've also tested Doomsday scenarios with moddir and not noticed any problems, but others have said it doesn't work properly.

I recommend using any of the above on a clean install or copy of a clean install.

I've downloaded JSGME, but the instructions for it's use are a little vague. Could you please detail how to install and use your mode with JSGME,please?

The ai tends to get into wars based on ideology so that the far left and far right countries tend to fight each other, often in large alliances. Each country also has a "combat = { x }" line for every other country in the scenario where x runs from 1 to 100.

The ai diplomacy works surprisingly well, although it isn't because of anything I added. I particularly like the way they will make peace deals by giving up provinces and join into large alliances.

For JSGME you just put the exe and the help file into the HOI2 directory.
Run the exe once and it creates MODS and !BACKUP folders.
The folder created by the scenario generator is placed in the MODS folder.
Run JSGME again and you should be able to load and unload the mod files by using the arrows.
