I just realized (sitting here on an internet café not far from the regiment, where I'll stay until friday the 12th) that it is hard for a team to work like we do, with a lot of people doing basically the same things, but not doing the exact same things, if you know what I mean. We have a lot of people working on events, bot me and Steele have done posters, and so on. I can't see any better way to work though, but with me here, away from my things, makes it harder. I shall now try and explain what I think should be done with the release.

* Use StephenT's event-files (I haven't been able to finish mine).
* Use my text.csv, although, erase the event descriptions (included in the point above).
* Use my tech tree, and edit it to the best.
* I will send the province.csv file (with mp fixed for all countries except China) when I get home.
* Find KB! :)
* Let StephenT compile the first version.

As I've said earlier, I want things looking good and uniform, but that is not prio number one right now, prio one is of course that stuff work, even if the files are looking "ugly" and "unorganized". I will clean the "mess" up later (when I get whole weeks of now and then).

I will be home at night the 12th, so I'll have more than a whole day home before the release, in case we need to send files missing, and such.

We will work this out! :)

Words of Encouragement

We appreciate all of your work! Consider me an able and willing beta tester- will keep an eye out for the release.

You mentioned country descriptions might not be complete? I can help with some research and provide maybe some text blocks if needed:)

Any help with the descriptions will be greatly appreciated!

Check the table here, and you'll see that there's still a bit to be done in that area.

Once you've got something, post it in the 'Country Descriptions' thread.

Thank you! :)

Looks great guys, but don't you think this message is really obnoxious?

When The Great War mod is available for download email me ---My Emal---

I mean, jeez, talk about lazy.

Yes, it is somewhat obnoxious and lazy... but it does reflect an interest in our work, and we are grateful for that.

I think we should support this laziness! Just send him a copy of the mod to his email address when its available. Off course, it could be happen that... uhhhm.... more than one member may send it.

Thank you most kindly! I'm sure you will be able to help us with your suggestions (and compliments) when you get to play it. :)

six days remaining

There still seems to be some significant issues outstanding.

Tech
We require the completion of the naval and air doctrines trees as soon as possible, sent to Stephen so that he can compile them and make them available for us, and then for us to test how various tech advancements effects units' performance.

Leaders
It is utterly crucial that we find out why our leaders do not appear, and how it can be fixed. Otherwise, we shall have a mod of random Major-Generals with no traits. Thinking caps on gents! If we can't figure it out ourselves, then we ought to find the help of someone who might know...

AI
Someone doing the AIs is waiting for the tech tree to be completed - when that's done, the AIs will be posted, and we'll have to see how they play.

Convoys
Has this been settled?

Province Info
....and this?

Installation
And have we finally settled on the exact means by which the mod will be installed on to people's computers?

I ought to ask that people start sending their work to Stephen so that he can assemble the mod. :)

Can I help debug the problem with the leaders. Just created my own file, perhaps its a syntax problem

If you need help can you post a link here to download the file(s) and I will try to help.

Cheers

The problem is not that there are errors concerning the syntax, rather, that all leader files don't work at all - no leaders display themselves in the game. This leads me to believe that there are difficulties other than with the actual leader files.

Hmm this new format is going to take a little getting used too.

But I digress, I shall have the air doctrines done in the next few days. I am hoping Steele posts the lighter-than-air tech tree first so I can go through it to make sure the doctrines pertaining to that make sense and have appropriate pre-requisites.

Ok were are they being installed too?

I guess youre using MODDIR.

What are the names of the files?

Can you link here OR send mailto: <2coats@the-oracle.freeserve.co.uk>

And I check em here.

If you want.

OK, here goes:

If you use ModDir, you must place files with the same names in the original DB\leadres folder, same applies for Ministers, in DB\Ministers.

Example: you have Russian Leaders placed in a file called russian_empire.csv in a ModDir named "mod-TGW", to get these leaders to work, you must have a file with the same name in the original DB\leaders folder, but only with the same name, leave the file empty though.

Hope this helps...

The thing is, I don't really have time to check all the files now (school ends next week, exams and all), or to write the AI files, so I'd suggest for you to release the beta planned, and then release a patch for it on 30th Dec, or 5 Jan when I, and prolly a lot more people will have time to complete their work...

While I agree that MODDIR must be used at some point, the early releases could be just zipped up. After all, looking at the CORE releases, there were a number of bugs reported with each release, so I wouldnt get excited just yet!

Better to release a zip file warning people to take a back up of their installation and test whats been done already. Packaging and ribbons can be added later.

Just my 2 er.... cents.

2Coats does have a good point. Our first release could simply be a big zip file.

We are of course going to have to make changes anyway, so why not do it this way?

Steele

I think the zip file might be good for v0.1. When we get to later versions say 0.2 or 0.3 we can introduce a self-installer.

Btw Steele how goes the tech tree for the lighter-than-air? If you can have it posted by Wednesday I can get the air doctrines done pretty quickly so someone can code them up in time for the release on Monday.

I'm actually working on it right now.

And BTW, can we please have our first version be 1.00 instead of 0.something? That ha always bothered me.
