Okay...here is what you do....Go to your search for files or folders...click start and then search...oh wait...what version of Windows are you using? Doesn't really matter per se...but it might...Let it search for Europa Universalis and paradox and Strategy First. All three of them. If it finds anything after you officially un install, delete it. Usually the typical windows uninstall doesn't get every bit of the program. You have to use custom, and get every bit of it.. Once you have gotten it all reinstall. Most people use the typical and put it in the "C" drive in the pathway that includes strategy first/Europa Universalis 2....That is for just about everyone, as they don't partition their hard drives...>I< put it in my "G" drive. But when you extract the patch you have to make sure that you extract in the right pathway....If you are using winzip(And if you aren't why not?), make sure to use winzip classic. Click extract. IT will give you a list of drives. Since you likely only have a "c" drive, click the little plus sign to the left of it. It will show you a list of folders. Next to the Program Files will be a plus sign. Click the plus sign, and then look for the folder that says Strategy First, next to that Folder should be a plus sign again. CLick the plus sign of that. You should see Europa Universalis 2. Click on that folder. IT sets up the pathway for your extraction. Click ok. IT will ask you if you want to overwrite some stuff. CLick yes to all, instead of just yes(Or you will be asked over and over again). It will install the patch nice and clean.
