23 enemy Freighters remain on our RADAR, with others possibly out of contact.

The Sabres are still in excellent fighting shape.

I might mention that all three of the above classes (Sabre X, Whetstone II and Eyeball IV) are slightly FASTER than an Emotion II gunship.

No. None.

We've researched the opposite end of the scale (Power Augmentation) all the way to the end, though.
Ah.
Are the two mutually.exclusicr?

But yeah, wise not to research it.
We don't have a fuel glut, after all.

@Flockingbird incoming ethical question: if we are going the artificial womb route, why not just clone?

Nothing to do with ethnics, and all to do with biology.
You want genes to mix.and randomly mutatr.
With cloning you just grt a copy of the existing.

From that third group of ten, eight wrecked, one immobilized and one struck its colors.

13 more to go. Plus whatever we can't yet see.

So?

Look at potatoes - we clone them to 99%, but still breed some on the side, so we have thousands of varieties.

Or like the Haldeman story ended, we use cloning for humans that will do actual work but keep a reserve at home for some genetic mixing to find better gene cocktails for cloning from.

We are using one of the surrendered ships to pick up the enemy life-pods.

The fourth enemy squadron of 10 Freighters is about 4 million km away.

And look at Cavendish bananas, what we usually just call.bananas, and how they're about to be exterminated as they don't have the genetic variety to resist a fungus.

Also, humans aren't potatoes or other food.

(Now imagine being one of those clones.

Cloning was all the rage in 70s-early 80s sf. I’ve forgotten who wrote the short story that best illustrates this point, but basically a guy stops by a government cloning machine to do his patriotic duty to make a clone to help mine the asteroids. He wakes up in one of the mining belt colonies because hello that perfect clone is a perfect copy up to and including all his memories: by cloning himself he has sent himself there. )

I fear Emu may feel that conducting this AAR is like herding cats who keep chasing sunmotes instead of the game’s laser points. :)

Wagon beat me to it!
Ok, "clone" was the wrong term. Why not just collect DNA samples from everyone and then select the best gene sequences for the desired outcomes and grow those in the artificial wombs? Then you could grow your population as fast as desired. No need to deal with the muss and fuss of childbirth and rearing. Just playing devils advocate here.

ETA: who needs random mutations when you can just use gene editing and get the changes you desire?

AFAIK we have no substitute for human parents in child-rearing. Humans have all kinds of psychosocial problems when they have ever-changing caretakers.

Not sure how long we can indulge these discussions without being unfair to Emu. I figure it might be tolerable if we keep it very brief but I do fear we’re maybe passing that point? Emu? :)
