How is the salvage operation coming along by the way?
Ongoing. Neither of the two salvage teams is more than 1/4 full yet, of parts and minerals.

Another polite suggestion from the Bork. Diplo +129.8

More of the usual.

Another Phalanx launches (our seventh in total) and the keel is laid for another Manticore in the empty slip.

Another polite suggestion from the Bork. Diplo +133.6 - It now seems to be climbing at +1.3 instead of at +1.2

More than a month again! Maybe I'll be able to make it to the end of the year.

Just the usual builds.

Going well.

Looks like our rearmament really goes well.

Another polite suggestion from the Bork. Diplo +136.2

One last Phalanx comes off the ways (making a total of eight in our Navy) and a fourth Manticore is laid down on the empty slip.

As an aside -- we're running with difficultly set to 120% which means generated NPRs will start, on average, 20% bigger than us on both the size and research progress metrics.

Which explains why the Modron are so huge, especially because there is also a large random factor involved in both axis.

If we are worried about it generating downright terrible NPR empires we could tone that down a bit.

That said -- we do seem quite capable of dealing with the Modron so far so I'm not sure we should.

I think that if we stopped and modernized our fleet before exploring further, we could feel pretty confident.

... because our designs are pretty good, they're just obsolete.

Our build of additional Fighter factories has completed (now 700 of them), and we have switched to building additional Ground Forces Training Centers.

Infantry, Artillery, Partystarters, Gadgets and Cutlasses all building.

The designs are good, and there are some take away from the Modrons we can learn from:
  • 50% super charged engines are enough to give a speed advantage over standard engines a tech generation ahead. I suspect we are sufficiently better than the AI to be able to handle the tactical downsides to the reduced range.
  • Our fast ships need a lot more point defence.
  • We want the biggest shields we can build on all ships.
Other things I am curious to see is how the Hussars perform. They could be really useful in situations where we want to fight at maximum range (e.g. fighting Sarthes where we may want to disengage to allow shields to regenerate)

Marengo 008 has been scrapped!

This was one of the ships that was pounded into submission, boarded by Space Marines and captured, dragged back to Earth by a Tug, and then repaired.

Now it's been scrapped, and we can see which components give us Tech info.

This is awesome. The game engine highlights in green any alien-tech components that will give us new tech points.

Notice that it ONLY highlights the stuff that will actually give us tech points.

The Marengo that we dismantled also includes components like a T-24 Thermal sensor, an Auxiliary Control, a Decoy Launcher... but we are already caught up in those technologies and would not score any tech points by reverse-engineering them.

... so they aren't highlighted.

We also have two engines that we can dismantle, but I'd rather wait until all the power reactors have been dismantled before taking any of the engines apart.

So that's about 33,000 research points from that captured ship, and we still have the engines to examine later.
