Red 2 will transit the Neutral Zone => Harmony jump piont in about ten hours.

After that, it will then face a 5+ day trip to the Harmony => Lernea jump point.

... assuming that they do intend a raid into the Lernea star system.
What's the chance they're instead gonna go for Harmony herself?

He's very likely spotted it already.

Five Thermal per DSTS. Twenty-five Thermal in total. About as much as a single size-6 missile.

He'll need ground troops and drop ships to take it, though.

And we've destroyed four loaded troop drop-ships, earlier in the battle.
He can't destroy it with one of those size 12 planet killers?

Wouldn't he have more drop ships?

Just how slow are they?
About 230 kps.

Captured ships start at only 10% speed, and slowly increase speed as the prize crew gets used to operating them.

I expect that weapons are similarly almost useless until the new owners get accustomed to them.

It might take several hits. Or a few dozen.

More drop ships? Possibly. How many would he have started with?

He hasn't had time to build any reinforcements.

Best we can do with captured troop transports is tell them to get out of the way of the enemy. Run away at an angle so they won't be easy to catch.

Of course Red 2 is probably ten times faster. Best we can do is not be an easy target of opportunity

The more time and missiles he spends cleaning up the debris of battle, the less he has when he eventually transits the Harmony => Lernea jump point.

I hope that that won't matter.

Let's not forget the intact ships that surrendered.
Yes, those are the prisoners. (It's been a couple hours, so I doubt we've managed to send anyone over to actually physically look at it, so all we got is remote interrogation.)

I think the question of the surrendered ships is best dealt with by being pragmatic: if they destroy them, we hadn’t really planned for the windfall and it was an unexpected bonus.

We have a speed advantage of 3,100 kps over Red 1 (our 16,701 kps vs their 13,608 kps) and are closing in on them at the rate of 15 million km every hour.

That should bring us into gun range in another 24 to 30 hours (depending on course alterations).

... and if they really are out of missiles, that should be that for Red 1.

They are cooperatively headed toward the Harmony => Lernea jump point, which will greatly simplify our post-battle redeployments.

We want to be already sitting on that JP as Red 2 approaches within missile range.

Meanwhile in the Neutral Zone, Red 2 is about 40% of the way toward the Harmony jump point.

The forces that are fleeing the anchorage at planet Harmony should... if I've calculated correctly... arrive at (and transit) the jump point to Lernea about four hours before Red 2 comes within missile-firing range.

Assuming a maximum range of 205 million km for their missiles.

That's cutting it a bit close... but I guess you play the cards you're dealt.

The Civilian companies are doing their part for the war effort by crowding commercial Freighters into the Harmony star system, hoping that Red 2 will waste all their missiles shooting up civvies.

Of course they are.
The Modron haven't exactly shown an interest in shooting the civilians so far, though. Commercial engines. Guess they do have some discrimination in targeting ;-)

How long until we get back into Red 1 missile range?

Sixty hours until the Earth Fleet arrives at the Lernea => Harmony jump point.

Out of the three major fleets (Earth Fleet, Harmony Fleet, and Gunships) the Earth Fleet will be the first to arrive at the rendezvous.

Of course they are.

Twelve hours and ten minutes. Roughly.

Notice that we can't even SEE his PD escorts at this distance (except for the AMM-PD Gards, whose shields radiate an EM signature).

There are about five more ships in the enemy task force, but we are outside RADAR range and only tracking them on EM and Thermal.

Red 2 is about to transit the Neutral Zone => Harmony jump point, preceded by a four-ship scouting detachment.

Our "Dreaded Fortress of Doom" that we parked on the other side of the jump point was built back at the dawn of civilization. Constructed from mud-bricks, if I recall correctly. It is armed with 50-year-old Lasers, directed by 50-year-old fire control computers. It will probably get a few shots off and then get wrecked.

Should we shoot at the scouting group as it jumps in, and then switch targets to the Sarthe as soon as the main Red 2 group jumps through?

We should inflict as much damage as we can.
Any of the other ships should be fine, too. Sarthe is resupply, taking out a missile cruiser early would not be a bad thing. Even if we merely slow it down ..

We don’t know the relative speed of their ships, and aren’t we speculating that the Sarthe is the one slowing their fleet down?

On that basis, I would say we trust our assumptions and leave the Sarthe unhurt. Is the fortress likely to be able to hurt one of their missile boats, or the unidentified ship?
