Interesting that a member of a forum full of wargamers prefers a crust defense over defense in depth. Jmo, ymmv
I would like defense in depth, but I'm not sure we have the resources. It requires maintenance parts to have them running, so we can't just leave old ones be, plus they'd end up obsolete fast anyway. Ideally I'd have a minefield at each jp, but as mines are bugged that won't happen.

So it's from being real: I think it'd be a resource waste to do defense in depth with stationary fortresses. Rather having various squadrons stationed here and there for quick response while fleet amasses seems better.
For the inner systems the real danger is hidden JPs. And those a fortress won't defend against anyway. In case a foe gets far inland, they likely have beat our navy anyway, and then there's not much we could have done with fortresses anyway.

Fortresses lead to static warfare, as opposed to maneuver warfare. We don't need a Maginot, but rather the ability for pincers.

It really burns me that we can't seem to get naval mines to work.

I was sure that we could lick that problem. Maybe something will occur to me.

The new Fortress of Doom has developed to the point that we can use it to overhaul nearby friendly forces.

This one is one of the Intel ships that keeps an eye on the Modrons.

Lots of builds, mostly Infantry, Artillery and Drop-Racks. Still building up for the big planetary invasion.

Looks like we've got ALL of our Lizard class and Lizard-II class Drop Racks either refitted or refitting to the fast-loading Lizard III class.

Regarding defense in depth... in principle, I agree.

But we only have a small number of very obsolete Fortress components on hand (and we lost several of those in the early battles in the Harmony star system). So I'd rather lump them together.

We have more fortress modules in the pipeline. Two shipyards (of four slipways each) are already building fortress components, a third yard is retooling, and a fourth yard is expanding to the required size. We will have defense in depth, with MODERN Fortresses.

Fifteen Gaia class Terraforming space stations are now in orbit around planet Harmony. More terraforming platforms are on the way.

Each one carries four Terraforming modules producing enough gasses to convert 0.01% of a typical Earth-like planet's atmosphere, per year, per platform.

Currently we are pumping greenhouse gasses into Harmony's atmosphere, attempting to lift it out of its current -105 C ice-house condition.

The radioactivity, soot and dust from the Modron's planet-wrecker bombardment have subsided, but temperatures are still cold enough that CO2 is solid.

More troops, Seven more Mule class Freighters launched and another seven laid down.

Our best researcher for ground troops has retired.

We are now officially six months into the Modron war. And it only took five months of real time. We're pulling ahead!

3,000 points toward Gas Core Anti-Matter Drive. Useful, although 3,000 points is no great sum.

More Infantry, more Lizards to carry them.

The overhaul of the Carrier force is nearly done.

OK... I guess Operation Big Nose is on.

Step 1 : The relevent ships will gather at Earth, do any needed preparations, and form up into a fleet.
- Meanwhile, a Super-Tug can drag a Portal class CIV Jump Tender Station out to the jump point into the enemy-held system. We won't need it yet anyway.

Step 2 : One Spy, one Agent, one Provocateur and one Scientist will all jump in and spread out.

For the threadmarks: cleaning out our first prix-held system.

Hundreds of thousands.

That tech takes 300.000 points. So this was 1%.

I'm surprised we're getting it before the reactor, though. That will make it easier to get from salvage.

Did we design any armored vehicles as well by the way? Those Rakhas AA tanks were ridiculous, if ever we meet them at that tech level again it would be nice to be able to counter them.

Certainly.

But our main Naval presence should remain within one jump of a place that has a high fleet cap.

One possibility:

The enemy home planet Mechanus is deep in the inner star system, on the second planet out from the sun. Unfortunately that brings all of the inner star system... the innermost four planets... within missile range of Mechanus.

So to be safe, after breaking the blockade, wiping out his fleet and destroying the shipyards, we would want to build our "siege camp" on a moon of the gas giant A-V, the fifth planet out from the sun. We can stack maintenance bases there.

Just need to watch out that supply ships dont stray to close to the enemy home world, when the system constellation puts the planet behin the home world

If by proud, you mean aghast at the reckless rate of progress…
While I check most AARs I follow daily, with master pip I check in once a quarter or so ;)

I was going to bulk up on Infantry first.

Maybe we'll get that Laser tech before it's time to design the Tanks.

Not a problem. If we were in their place, we would also be exploring.

Four Cutlass FACs launched. More laid down. More Infantry and Artillery built.

The Carrier force completes its overhaul.
