All the other saptient beings outside what will be up to the big 7 in the game. Those that start well down the "food chain" in the game.

Fixed it for you. 'Sentient being' is a really useless term in this context, if you know what 'sentient' means. Almost all animals are sentient beings. And most of them don't create technology and conquer the stars.

There are not '7 big races/species'. There are seven appearences you can choose from. All species in the game will be randomised. There are some pre-made ones but this are not major races. They don't appeare in your game if you don't play them.

I really want this mod now.

It's also not seven appearances but seven appearance groups.

Also as the previews suggest that mid to late game it's more like Victoria in space. Then you can almost certainly be a smaller power if you chose not to rapidly expand, but focus on one or two systems, and then just research bases outside of that.

And 'saptient' means what? :p

Aye.

There are no "minor races" as such. When you start a new game you can choose one of several pre-made races or create your own. The galaxy is then populated by a number of randomly created races.

Cool, thanks for the answer. Probably been answered but will there be different tech levels and size of "empires" that can be created at game start.

For example could you play a race that has just discovered FTL while somewhere across the galaxy there is a race who already controls multiple star systems.

You most likely choose between existing portraits ;)

I meant them, the developpers. If everything is random, how do they match portraits to various races that are generated on a new game ? If there is only a bunch of 100+ pictures that are randomly dispatched to each race, then it means the various traits and attributes of races are totally unrelated to the appearance. Or you could have something CK2 like that mix and match various bits of portraits depending on various parameters.

There are 100~ Aesthetic appearances, due to the character focus it is likely that within each of those appearances, there is a degree of variation similar to CK2. Eg each Aesthetic would be akin to the 'Celtic Face Pack' so all the people within that pack share a look, and have variation for individuality.

So there are ~100 unique Celtic Face packs. Sorted into 6 Archetypes.

That was my understanding at first, but then goosecreature came and tel us that the 7 "races" we know are just premade race, and other are totally random, so i'm confused.

The ones which are random are created using the same tools, and so forth that the player can use to make a custom race (and the same 100 aesthetics) as are the premade races.

@Darkath

Probably an easier way to put it is that there's 7 basic types of aliens you'll encounter, such as bird people, reptilian people, fish people, etc.

Then the game random gens everything. So in your game you may end up with 12 different kinds of bird people (all complete with traits, history, etc). Then you might have 5 different kinds of reptilians and so and so forth.

Probably another way to put it is that you have 7 base "species" and then multiple "races". Think about humans. We're all homo sapiens but we still have White, Black, Asian, etc. Most likely it would be the same thing with birds or anything else. You'll probably have something like eagle, vulture, and parrot.

To make it even more interesting the specific areas of a portrait (such as neck, chin, eyes, etc.) are labelled as "DNA". I wonder if we will meet different races (A and B) looking exactly the same and if their traits could influence their portraits. I would be surprised if they went for simply having a wast collection of full images for each race, but I guess it can be done that way too....

That's probably the best and the simplest way to put it.
