At least Dolorous was defeated, although the fact that he's still alive is worrying.

Soon, both sides might have planet-destroying superweapons. That would be very bad...

Chapter Forty-Three: Turnover
Admiral Moreau had long and faithfully served both A’Nikori and the Chancellor by commanding the Grand Navy of the Republic. But Clones had never been bred for their longevity, and the responsibility of his position, and how uncompromising he was in carrying out his duties had only accelerated the aging process for him.

He passed away soon after the liberation of Salluria Prime.

While Opalwan had never liked Admiral Moreau next to clones like Ruiz, he would not celebrate the man’s death. Not only would that be highly improper, he knew that A’Nikori had shared a close bond with Admiral Moreau and his fellow clone brethren.

But what hopes Opalwan might have had for Moreau’s replacement were quickly dashed.

Admiral Jamishidi Hologram.png

“We are, of course, saddened by the passing of Admiral Moreau,” Admiral Jamshidi, who at times served as a military governor supervising occupied Separatist sectors, said in his clipped, Coruscant accent, though the way he carried on told Opalwan he cared little for the clone at all, “but the war goes on. We shall soon appoint another admiral to command the Grand Navy. But for the time being, I will assume responsibility for its operations."

Admiral Jamshidi was one of the highest-ranked admirals in the navy, but it had been some time since he had been seen on the front lines. He was said to be handling crucial administrative tasks for the navy back at Coruscant. But Jamshidi was very well politically connected, and had been a serious contender for the position of Supreme Chancellor before Eerabik’s upset electoral victory those years ago. Yet while one might have thought that this would make Jamshidi a bitter enemy of Eerabik’s, she had raised him to a position of even greater prominence within the navy, and he was now said to be one of her favorites.

Jamshidi also embodied everything that Opalwan had disliked about Admiral Moreau, only far worse.

Jamshidi was a rather unpleasant individual who had little tolerance for failure, and had long believed that the Republic needed to centralize its authority and expand its military forces to strike fear into pirates, marauders, and other criminal elements. Shows of military might were the most effective deterrence against those who would destabilize the Republic, and would eventually render the actual application of force largely unnecessary, or so Jamshidi believed.

His ideas were increasingly gaining traction among the Republic’s military theorists, who pointed to the effectiveness of the Grand Navy as a hammer against the Separatists as evidence in favor of them. Some were even starting to call Jamishidi’s ideas the “Jamshidi Doctrine”.

Opalwan could not agree with Jamshidi’s approach. Diplomacy would be the only way to forge a lasting peace. Jamshidi’s doctrine would only inspire fear instead.

“Continue to press the attack against the Sallurians who continue to collaborate with the Separatists,” Jamshidi instructed. “They will soon see the error of their ways."

Daedalus Logistical Support.png

Under Jamishidi’s direction, the navy had nearly doubled in size since the start of the campaign against the Lokken Mechanist Guilds, but the logistics of maintaining such a large force had been starting to put a strain on the GAR.

Fortunately, the loyal mercenaries of Daedalus United were ready to accept a contract to set up, maintain, and guard supply depots as the Republic’s fleets advanced deeper into Separatist territory, relieving some of the burden from the GAR itself.

Separatists Counterattack at Sallurian and Occupy Tyznnia.png

While the Grand Navy of the Republic was away, a Separatist force led by General Dolorous, who had already managed to return to action, launched a surprise attack to retake the space around Salluria. Meanwhile, Admiral Taranch led a Separatist fleet to capture Sal’Tzynn, the capital system of the Tzynnia Sector.

“You must realize, you are doomed!” General Dolorous sneered as his activated his lightsabers, taken from Jedi he had personally killed, and dueled Master Stalk of Gold.

Dolorous didn’t have the Force, but he was utterly implacable, with computer and servo-enhanced reflexes that allowed him to move at blinding speed and execute multiple attacks at once.

Stalk of Gold fought valiantly, but fear started to creep up on him. The bio-droid seized on it, and with a pair of vicious simultaneous strikes, General Dolorous felled him. Dolorous’s blades cut through bark and connective tissue, before Stalk of Gold fell to the ground, sliced into four pieces.

Bending down, Dolorous retrieved the dead Pelisimus Jedi Master’s lightsaber.

“Another fine addition to my collection,” Dolorous laughed.

Grand Marshal Giorgio.png

Chancellor Eerabik appointed Admiral Giorgio of Strike Force Ceberus to become the new Grand Army Marshall following Stalk of Gold’s death at the hands of General Dolorous. Admiral Giorgio was of an aggressive disposition, and agreed that expanding the navy was essential for the Republic’s continued success in the Clone Wars. He had also aligned himself with the politics of the Free Citizen Center, the faction that Eerabik had belonged to at the time of her election to the position of Supreme Chancellor. Eerabik still was influential in the Center, but its membership had started to fracture, with a handful of senators believing that Eerabik was gradually straying from its principles.

The death of Stalk of Gold had also left another opening, one in the Jedi Order.

Word was sent out in a holographic transmission from Master Yodex Grogem to the Sallurian front.

“Master Opalwan Ben’itoite, raise you to the Jedi High Council, we do. But first, remember, we must."

Hearing the original 2003 version of General Grievous' theme sent me down one heckuva nostalgia trip. Has it really been 20 years since the old Cartoon Network show?

Hold up:
Free Citizen Center, the faction that Eerabik had belonged to at the time of her election to the position of Supreme Chancellor. Eerabik still was influential in the Center, but its membership had started to fracture, with a handful of senators believing that Eerabik was gradually straying from its principles.

Has this decline of the FCC been playing out over the course of the war or is this a more recent development?

@Macavity116 (Yes, it has been 20 years. I chose this version because it is a far more menacing theme for Dolorous hunting down a doomed Jedi.)

(The Free Citizen Center has been declining gradually over the course of the war, but more of its members are growing wary of Eerabik’s policies in-narrative as of late. In-game, Grand Marshal Giorgio is its official faction leader, but he is seen as being very close to Chancellor Eerabik, the in-narrative leader of the faction at the time of her election.)

(Some more radical members of the Free Citizen Center are starting to fear that Eerabik is using the Free Citizen Center as a sort of controlled opposition, letting them voice their concerns in the Senate while they have little real ability to do anything about them. And one by one Eerabik seems to be turning her back on the principles that she claimed to profess at the time of her election in the name of advancing the war effort. )

(Most of them are smart enough not to voice those thoughts in public or too loudly... And of course, according to the Chancellor, these are just temporary measures, and there will be a full return to democracy after the war concludes, which is echoed by Eerabik's loyalists within the faction... Since Eerabik loves democracy and loves the Republic so much...)

(In other words, Eerabik is installing her own fascist supporters into a supposedly egalitarian faction so that they can undermine it from within, and the real egalitarians are starting to notice.)

RIP Moreau. I wonder if his successor will also win over A'Nikori...

Eerabik has been losing power in her party? What would you do if she lost power in the game? Shadow government?

The good news about only diplomacy being able to end the war is that it gives the Rebel Alliance more potential members once the Empire is formed - although ex-Confederacy and ex-Republic tension would make cooperation difficult.

@HistoryDude (I’ve been using progress toward federation centralization, senate resolutions and policies that militarize the Republic further, and eventual Custodianship/Imperium resolutions as the true markers of Eerabik’s power. Since whatever support she’s lost in the egalitarian wing, she’s gained from the authoritarian and militarist factions. These are her TRUE factions. And she likely in-narrative enjoys the support of members of the Republic’s materialist faction as well. )

( Eerabik isn’t actually an in-game character this time around, but embodies the roleplaying impetus that is slowly turning the Republic into the Imperium.)

Chapter Forty-Four: Admiral Iweala and the Second Battle of Salluria
Grand Navy Battle of Salluria.png

Admiral Jamshidi assigned Clone Admiral Iweala to take command of the Grand Navy of the Republic. Iweala had long been skeptical of the Jedi, and was of a more materialist outlook. Like virtually all clones, he detested the Separatist clankers, but one had the sense that he thought they were shoddy constructions that did not make for worthy opponents.

Second Battle of Salluria Far.png

Second Battle of Salluria Close.png

But in spite of any misgivings Iwela had over the role of the Jedi, he was nonetheless a highly capable and loyal commander.

Destroying Separatist Fleet at Salluria.png

He was less cautious than Moreau had been, and like Jamshidi, Iwela tended not to view retreat as a viable option in battle, encouraging the ships under his command to fight to the last. However, perhaps because of his materialist background and extensive study of the inner workings of starships and other machines, Iweala was highly adept as an engineer and sharing this expertise to his clone captains. As such, their ships could sustain far more damage than would otherwise be possible, enabling them to keep on fighting.

Battle of Salluria Results 2.png

By the end of the Second Battle of Salluria, Admiral Iweala had nearly wiped out one Separatist fleet, annihilated a second, and dealt crippling damage to a third, while only losing a single cruiser and twenty-one escort vessels out of the one hundred eighty one that had accompanied the Grand Navy.

Even Opalwan and A’Nikori, who had fought alongside Ruiz and Moreau, were impressed at just how thoroughly Iweala had routed the enemy.

With such a blow dealt to the Separatist navy, the balance of power in the Sallurian Sector had shifted decisively in the Republic’s favor.

But once again, General Dolorous had managed to escape.

Chapter Forty-Five: Continued Momentum, and Free Elections
Republic Fleet Emerges from Camglaria Relay.png

Providences Fall at Camglaria.png

The Republic continued to build upon its momentum after the Second Battle of Salluria by ambushing a Separatist fleet near the Camglaria Hyper Relay station.

Dolorous Invades Sal'Tzynn.png

Sal’Tzynn was occupied by Separatist forces led by the Lokken Mechanist guilds.

Liberation of Blorg and Sallurian Sectors.png

But the Liberation of the Blorg and Salluria sectors was proceeding swiftly.

Hazbuzan Theater and Isolated Gaia World.png

Hazbuzan space had also been nearly entirely occupied by the Republic, putting a serious dent into the syndicate’s criminal operations. This in turn sharply reduced the amount of income that the syndicate’s Lokken-installed leaders could funnel back to their Separatist masters. Just the syndicate’s headquarters on Zumaka, in the Buzbuznol System and a few isolated systems continued to hold out.

Galactic Council Resolution in Senate crop.png

Delegates from the Tezekian Sector proposed the creation of a ‘Galactic Council’ to be led by delegates from the Republic’s three most influential sectors. Council members would be able to cut through some of the usual red tape, allowing them to assist the Supreme Chancellor in prosecuting the war against the Separatists.

With momentum clearly on the Republic’s side and holos of the victory at the Second Battle of Salluria playing across its worlds, the measure was overwhelmingly supported in the Senate, with over 89% of the vote in favor.

It was clear proof that recent elections had given the Supreme Chancellor a new supermajority in the Senate. The people of the Core Worlds had overwhelmingly voted for politicians who had publicly aligned themselves with Eerabik. Her allies' margins were also high in any sectors that had suffered from Separatist invasion or occupation, and even a majority of votes submitted in the Scyldaria and Chicora sectors supported pro-Eerabik candidates. Indeed, many candidates had vigorously competed to demonstrate the most loyalty to the Chancellor and commitment to continuing the war effort.

A few radicals claimed that the elections in the Scyldaria and Chicora Sectors were inherently unfair, as they were still under continued military occupation and governance. Many living there had been disqualified from voting due to their former service in the Separatist cause. There were also baseless claims that some individuals who supported candidates who were less supportive of the Chancellor had been ‘disappeared’ and taken to alleged Republic black sites, to be questioned for suspected seditious activity. And a few rabble-rousers claimed that the presence of the highly-armed mercenary companies that provided security in those sectors intimidated many, dissuading them from casting votes for politicians who opposed Eerabik’s war agenda.

But the official data showed that voter turnout was higher than it had been in centuries, and Eerabik spoke glowingly in the Senate about how the successful elections, which had been free and fair, showed that the Republic would continue to endure against any threat, internal or external.

The wheels of the Senate were turning.

The death of Dolorous is long overdue.

The promotion of commanders indifferent to the Force should worry the Jedi, shouldn't it? Of course, they don't know that Eerabik is a Sith that plans to slaughter them...

Of course Eerabik resorted to preventing people who weren't her supporters from voting and then denied it. She loves democracy (as long as it favors her)!

@HistoryDude (The insidious thing is that most of Eerabik’s voter suppression tactics occurred far from the Core Worlds.... one can assume they were far more prevalent in the Chicora Sector than the Scyldaria sector. The Core World senatorial elections, which could be more closely observed by the Jedi, mostly were free and fair, even if the outlying sector elections were not. Eerabik actually enjoyed significant support in the Core. And that’s one of the insidious things about the rise of dictatorships... there is often a significant portion of the population that actively votes for fascist/authoritarian politicians, not caring if the votes of their opponents are being suppressed, so long as they perceived themselves as coming out on top at the expense of the ‘other'.... but the dictatorship has no real loyalty to those who voted for it once it is entrenched in power. And many dictatorships maintain the outward trappings of a democracy for a long time, even if their is little actual competitiveness in the elections that remain.)

(And indeed... Eerabik loves democracy... it’s how she got her political power!)

Chapter Forty-Six: Space Hulks
Versus Lucrehulks at Breek.png

The Lokken Mechanist Guilds moved in to the Breek System on the eastern edge of Sallurian space with five Lucrehulks and a number of capital ships, seeking to reinforce their crumbling hold on Sallurian space.

However, they were intercepted by the Grand Navy of the Republic.

Lucrehulks and Providences Destroyed at Breek.png

While the Lucrehulks were titanic ships, the sheer size of the Grand Navy of the Republic allowed it to surround them with its own cruisers, inflicting heavy damage to the Separatist vessels in short order.

Lucrehulk Destroyed Breek.png

As one heavily damaged Lucrehulk tilted to the side as it began to sink into the gravity well of a nearby planet, Acclamators and Y-Wings moved in to target the next.

Y-Wings and Acclamator vs. Lucrehulk.png

Heavy guns were distributed along the Lucrehulk’s circular surface, but the Y-Wings targeted its engines and other vital systems.

Destroyed Lokken Lucrehulk.png

The protons bombs and torpedoes took their toll, and a massive explosion rent the Lucrehulk’s side before it could escape.

Iweala Level 7.png

With three of the five enemy Lucrehulks reduced to burning hulks of space debris, Admiral Iweala saw yet another in a series of rapid promotions.

It would not be much longer until the rest of the Sallurian sector was liberated.

The end of the war would be good news if I didn't know that its end would also mean the end of the Republic. Are these "rapid promotions" a way of taking more control of the military for Eerabik?

@HistoryDude (Oh, there’s still plenty of war to be fought yet.... just not on this front).

(That’s one light in which the promotions could be viewed. In-game though, Iweala went from rank IV to rank VII very quickly due to the sheer number of Separatist ships the Grand Navy of the Republic was able to destroy in a very short time.)

Chapter Forty-Seven: End of the Sallurian Campaign, and A Deal with Geonosis
Liberation of Sal'Tzynn.png

After the losses in the Salluria and Breek Systems, Separatist positions in neighboring sectors quickly began collapsing as well. With little opposition, a small Republic strike group led by a squadron of Victory Star Destroyers entered the Sal’Tzynn system.

Centax Sal'Tzynn Starbase.png

The Separatists had occupied the heavily-fortified starbase over Tzynnia, but the missiles of the Victory Star Destroyers, Centax cruisers, and torpedoes from light assault frigates pounded its outer defenses. Y-Wings moved in close to target key hard points, and Arquitens-class light cruisers provided covering fire for them.

With the orbital defenses cleared, clones landed on Tzynnia, and after a short but pitched battle in the scorching desert heat, the Grand Army scrapped the droid occupation forces, allowing the battered Tzynnia Sector Defense forces to return to their sector capital.

Lokken Fleets in Fevallion.png

The lull in the Separatist offensive appeared to be short-lived, as Admiral Taranch arrived with a new invasion force in the Fevallion System, a single hyperlane jump away from Breek.

But then it held its position, seemingly waiting for additional reinforcements.

Vidia and Taranch Hologram.png

“Impressive as your new fleets are, they are not quite enough to deal with the Grand Navy of the Republic,” Darth Vidia said in a transmission to Admiral Anarch.

The arachnoid admiral clicked irritably. “Do suggest that we play into the Republic’s hands? We must take back the initiative!"

“Of course, Admiral Taranch,” Darth Vidia replied silkily. “We must retake the initiative, as you say. How would you like another opportunity to invade the Core Worlds? I believe Orbis Corporate Synergies has been readying their forces, and could use an admiral of your talents to lead them."

Admiral Taranch clicked again, but this time sounding much more pleased.

“Tell me more about this plan, Lady Vidia..."

Venator Y-Wing Outposts.png

In the meantime, the Republic continued to liberate outposts that had been previously occupied by the Separatists. Sometimes even just a single Star Destroyer was used in such mop-up operations, so that more systems could be freed in a shorter time.

Victory Against Lokken Claims.png

The withdrawal of Admiral Taranch’s forces marked the end of the campaign in Sallurian space, as well as the threat to the Blorg and Tzynnia sectors. Much of the Hazbuzan space was also occupied and seized by the Republic, though the criminal syndicate stubbornly managed to hold on to their home system, which was at the end of a very defensible hyperlane.

Contrary to the expectations of many, the Sallurian Sector Defenses forces were not reconstituted. About half of their territory went to Blorg loyalists who had maintained a guerrilla war against General Dolorous and Separatist occupation, while the other half, which contained the bulk of the former Sallurian planets, would be placed under provisional military rule by governors from the Grand Army of the Republic.

This was necessary, Chancellor Eerabik argued, so that the region could serve as a crucial bulwark against further Separatist aggression. With the captured Hazbuzan Space to the galactic south, it formed a long buffer zone that the Lokken Mechanist Guilds and their Separatist allies would have to go through in order to reach other Republic sectors.

Geonosian Tributary Clone Wars.png

Sensing how the war was clearly turning in the Republic’s favor, the Archduke of the Geonosian Confederacy signed a deal with the Republic. He would receive amnesty for any past collaboration with the Separatists and continue to maintain local rule over his systems, in exchange for supplying the Republic with raw and processed resources.

No one with any sense believed that the Archduke had any real change of heart or loyalty to the Republic, but gaining access to the Geonosian foundries without having to fight another campaign for them was an opportunity that the Republic couldn’t ignore.

Clone Wars 2306 Geonosian Tributary.png

The Republic now controlled most of the galactic southwest, along with a narrower band of systems along the western edge of the core northward to the Outer Rim.

Supremacist Stance Clone Wars.png

But the war would not end until every Separatist system had been brought back into the Republic.
