Why was the Senate trusting the megacorporations anyway? They were among the founders of the Confederacy of Independent Systems - why aren't they at least under suspicion? Eerabik? Senatorial laziness?

@HistoryDude (The Republic and its economy never was able to fully disengage itself from the mega corporations. A delicate political fiction of the leaders who helped found the Confederacy being rogue elements within the companies allowed them to continue to do business with the Republic as well as the Separatists. Now, that pretense has been abandoned. And yes, corruption played a role in it - it was obvious to anyone that the mega corps were not to be trusted, but there were credits to be made!)

Chapter Forty-Eight: Preemptive Counterattack at Brillisir
Make Orbis Tributary War.png

In order to fund the continued war effort, Supreme Chancellor Eerabik proposed legislation, which was rapidly taken up by the senate, to increase taxation on the trades routes of Orbis Corporate Synergies.

Orbisur Tributary War Starts.png

Some critics suspected that what the Supreme Chancellor really wanted was an excuse to nationalize Orbis Corporate Synergies after the far more ‘reasonable’ alternative of increased taxation was vociferously rejected by the company’s board of directors.

The Orbisur promptly dropped all pretense of loyalty to the Republic, and called upon the droid armies of the Iferyx Amalgated Trade Fleets to assist them and the broader Separatist cause. Before long, droid fleets were crossing into Pelisimus space, moving toward the Republic’s Core.

Republic Invades Banking Clan.png

Simultaneously, the Republic launched its own preemptive counterattack of the space controlled by the Maloqui Intergalactic Banking Clan, heading off a potential invasion from the galactic north before it could materialize.

Fighting also broke out in a star cluster controlled by Scyldari holdouts, though both sides only deployed relatively token forces there for now.

Golan Defense Platforms Brillisir.png

The Maloqui’s defenses in the Brillisir system proved to be quite formidable, with multiple Golan Defense Stations surrounding the Banking Clan’s citadel there.

While Y-Wings were able to destroy several of the Golans, it came too late for one Acclamator cruiser, which met a fiery end as it went plunging into Brillisir’s fiery photosphere.

But the Republic pressed on, and continued to assault the Banking Clan citadel, surrounding it and pounding it with fire from cruisers, Star Destroyers, and Y-Wing bombing runs.

Finally, after a pitched battle, the Citadel at Brillisir fell to the Republic’s forces.

While there had been some losses, the Chancellor and the Admiralty nonetheless deemed that the preemptive counterattack against the Banking Clan was off to a good start.

But the Orbisur’s invasion forces into Pelisimus space still had to be dealt with.

Unfortunately, due to the multiple agendas of the person running the Republic, I don't see a way for this particular conflict to be avoided.

This invasion might be a problem, but at least there's good news elsewhere in the galaxy!

Chapter Forty-Nine: Counterattack at Pantagruel, and Battles in the North
Batttle of Pantagruel.png

While the Grand Army of the Republic continued its push into the space controlled by the Maloqui Intergalactic Banking Clan, it also deployed a strike force to aid the Pelisimus Sector, destroying a Separatist fleet at the Battle of Pantagruel.

Battle North of Rothana.png

Battle of Hraztan.png

While Republic forces in the South were forced to defend the Chicora Sector from an Obisur invasion, in the north, the Republic went on another preemptive counteroffensive, seeking to neutralize enemy fleets before they could attack Rothana.

Dabih System Occupied.png

However, with limited forces, the Republic was not able to defend all of the systems formerly held by the Voor Techno Union, and several of the outlying ones fell to enemy occupation, including the planet of Vi Makal in the Dabih System.

Republic and Voor Mercenaries Afrmyke.png

A major fleet battle occurred in the Afrmyke System, also along the border of former Techno Union space.

Voor Mercnaries Afrmyke.png

Voor mercenaries who had since contracted their services to the Republic played an important role in supplementing the Republic’s forces in the sector, and served as its front line in the battle.

Munificents and Bulkwarks Afrmyke.png

Clone and mercenary fighter wings softened up the enemy cruisers as both sides approached each other.

Separatist Capital Ships Destroyed Afrmyke.png

But the Separatist fleet never reached the Republic’s cruisers. But the Voor mercenaries were there just in time to claim some of the glory of destroying the enemy’s capital ships.

The Republic is winning victories, but that only barely masks the fact that they're overextended. They should probably close a front soon, if they can.

Surprised the Voor did not try to take all of the credit after showing up to the battle late.

Chapter Fifty: Perdition Beams
Jump Drive Research CLone Wars crop.png

Technology continued to advance swiftly amidst the Clone Wars. The Republic had begun work on an experimental ‘Jump Drive’ that would allow its fleets to bypass the hyperlanes altogether - though not without putting significant strain on any ship making such a jump. There were rumors that the Separatists were working on similar drives as well.

Advancing Toward Maloquist.png

Meanwhile, the Republic continued to advance steadily toward the Banking Clan’s headquarters in the Maloquillist System.

Venator Burs Starbase.png

The Separatist bastion at Burs was the last obstacle before the Republic could launch an attack on Maloquillst itself.

Wacegi Sector Invaded by Banking Clans.png

This could not come soon enough, as the Banking Clan had invaded the Wacegi Sector, and was currently winning handily there.

Separatists Flank at Maloquilist.png

At Maloquillist itself, the Separatists attempted to flank the Republic’s fleet, emerging from a Hyper Relay as the Republic’s cruisers engaged the system’s starbase. However, the shields of the Republic’s cruisers held long enough for their fighters to engage the enemy and overwhelm the point defenses of the Banking Clan’s own cruisers.

Grand Navy vs. Separatists at Daarasta.png

Meanwhile, the Grand Navy of the Republic responded to a renewed invasion of the Pelisimus Sector by a joint Orbisur-Iferyx offensive. Seven titanic Lucrehulk-class vessels lay siege to the habitat of Great Promise, along with smaller capital ships and their escorts.

But the Lucrehulks were armed with a powerful weapon.

Green lasers fired across the system, vaporizing Republic cruisers on contact.

“Those blasts came from those Lucrehulks! They’ve got some kind of... superlaser!"

“Engage their fleet at point-blank range,” A’Nikori ordered.

“General Starflier, our cruisers can’t repel firepower of that magnitude."

“Yes, but we will outlast them,” A’Nikori replied. “The Chancellor wants us to liberate Great Promise, not excuses. So that’s exactly what we’re going to do."

Bulwarks, Providence Dreadnoughts and Carriers, Munificent cruisers, and Separatist escorts advanced, seeking to slow down the Republic’s fleets as the superlaser-equipped Lucrehulks kept firing on the Grand Navy.

Meanwhile, the Grand Navy returned fire with its own Particle Lances, and cutting into the hulls of the Separatist Bulwarks.

One of the Separatist Bulwarks, already battered by the Grand Navy, fell when Y-Wings bombed its command bridge.

With a large gap opening in the Separatist line, Republic vessels charged through.

Sensing that the battle was turning against them, the captains of the Lucrehulks turned and began to retreat, before engaging emergency hyperdrives.

Yet the damage was done.

Vidia and T'Duku Hologram The Works.png

“My Lady, the Grand Navy has seen the Lucrehulk-mounted Perdition Beams in action. While the fleet had to retreat, their firepower was within expectations. Those in the know among the Republic’s admirals will be convinced that we are continuing full-scale research and development into the Death Star project."

“Very good, Lord Tyrannis,” Darth Vidia replied. “That will serve to... motivate them."

“Indeed, Lady Vidia."

“In the meantime, deploy reinforcements from the B2 Droid Army. It will not do if the Pelisimus Sector is fully liberated too quickly."

“As you wish, my Lady."

I'm not sure if using the superlasers is a great idea from Vidia's perspective. Sure, it increases fear of the Separatists, but it also means that these superlasers are associated with treason. How will Eerabik justify creating a Death Star in a time of peace using superlasers first used by blatant secessionists? Will she claim it's poetic justice?

@HistoryDude (Think of it like atomic weapons. The United States first began developing the atomic bomb because it thought that Nazi Germany might be working on one. Likewise, the Soviet Union stole research for the atomic bomb from the Manhattan project. Just because their enemy developed it doesn’t mean that they wouldn’t want such a weapon for themselves.)

(And who says that the Death Star will be developed in a time of peace?)

Chapter Fifty-One: The B2 Droid Attack on the Pelisimus
B2 Invasion Fleets.png

The B2 Droid army began deploying its automated fleets en masse into Pelisimus territory, invading via the Traxis Badlands.

Much of the northern half of the Pelisimus and Wacegi Sectors was soon under Separatist occupation.

Mega Shipyard Restored Rothana.png

However, the Republic had just managed to restore the shipyards of Rothana, and began using them to produce massive numbers of new warships to counter the Separatist threat.

Battle of Taramba Start.png

The Republic also used its newly perfected Jump Drives to attack behind Orbisur lines at Taramba, ambushing a trio of Lucrehulk-class battleships and their escorts while they were en route to the front.

Lucrehulks Fleeing.png

The Lucrehulk’s cowardly Orbisur captains began to flee, even as the Republic’s Y-Wings pounded their titanic vessels.

Separatist Forces Disarray Taramba.png

This left the rest of the Separatist’s forces in the system in disarray, and they were quickly surrounded and routed.

But the Lucrehulks themselves escaped.

Republic Reinforcements from Rothana.png

With new ships on the way, Rothana’s defense fleets were redeployed to begin a new offensive against Iferyx positions in the Galactic north.

B2 Invades along the Western Spine.png

More B2 droid armies were on the move along the hyperlanes of the galaxy’s Western Spine, seeking to invade the Chinorr sector.

Battle of Ijax Locatoin.png

But as the Republic pushed back the B2 Droid army attacking the Pelisimus Sector, they had to contend with a concentration of Separatist fleets that had gathered from the Iferyx Trade Fleets, Maloqui Intergalactic Banking Clans, and Orbis Corporate Synergies...

If the Separatist navy could be broken there, then the Pelisimus Sector would be free...

“Drive the Separatists out of the Pelisimus Sector,” A’Nikori instructed as the Grand Navy of the Republic entered the Ijax System.

“Right away, General Starflier."

“For the Chancellor!” the clones chorused.

Battle of Ijax Flanking.png

A smaller Republic fleet had also jumped into the far side of the system, seeking to flank the Separatist navy.

But soon, the main bulk of each force collided with each other, resulting in a close-quarters brawl.

Which was to say, not many of them.

With the Separatist invasion of the Pelisimus Sector thwarted, it was now time for the Republic to begin the counter-invasion of Orbisur space in earnest.

(Obviously some buggy numbers on the Republic’s side of the results screen, as I didn’t have nearly that many ships in reality, but the Separatist sides of the stats are much more accurate, given the casualties they suffered).

It's good that the Republic won, but I find "For the Chancellor" a worrying battlecry. That might just be because I know how this ends, though.
