Version 1.3 released!

Only changes included are those to the default choices in the independence events, plus some Israel events that probably won't fire.. :p

Nevertheless, the changes to the default choice, and the addition of +5 BB to crushing the rebels, changes the dynamics quite a bit, allowing larger empires by the AI, and more BB wars for the warmongering human player! I do need to script a few BB reducing events for the human players about 5 years after the tower of Babel to prevent total annhilation.

This time, I also changed the version at my website, so for those who want to download from there, it is the newest version.

Whether it says so or not.

I just read the first half of a Minoan article here

According to it

Around 1700 BC there is a large disturbance in Crete, probably by an earthquake, although an invasion from Turkey has also been suggested. After that the population rose again, and the palaces were rebuilt, even larger than before.

We could make a event that reduces the population of Crete, and maybe something to reflect the population increase and rebuilting of the palaces.

Around 1650 BC, the eruption of the volcanic island Thera caused tsunami which destroyed installations near the coasts. The sulphur dioxide emitted by the volcano also caused a decline in temperature, which resulted in poor harvests for several years. Some archeologists think that the Minoans lost their religious faith in the ability of the priests to control nature.

decrease in trade level, (-300 or something) something to reflect the poor harvest and somehow something with their faith aint sure about that one though

Around 1450, the palaces were again disturbed. Some time later, around 1420 BC, the island was conquered by the Mycenaeans. After this, most Cretan cities and palaces went into decline; Knossos remained until 1200 BC.

havent though much about this, will return after i have been to the movietheatre.

Apparently the Minoans where much more a merchant state than a military state, their city's had no walls and only very little weaponry have been found. so a suggestion could be to remove the +1 fortification in their start event and give them something less warlike, like one level of infrastructure to show that their civilicasion where more advanced than the other ones.

on the religion issue they should be changed from pagan to polytheism, apperantly they worshipped a kind of mother goddess who where linked to the earthshaker, a male represented by the bull and the sun who would die each fall and be reborn each spring, there are some illustrations that lead to the believe that they also believed in animal-headed demons.

their db setting should probably be set to 3 quality, 4 offensive, nearly full naval and 6 or 7 aristocracy. they would then have a very bad landbased army and a better than average navy to protect them, so they dont fall too early. besides that i think they should only have 9000 as their manpower limit. my only worry is if the ai know how to use their navy to keep others from getting to crete.

i will think more about the events i proposed earlier while i sleep, and try to find some more precise dates for them tomorrow.

Daniel, you should give us a little timeline on which to base the events.

The problem now is this:
The scenario starts at 3000 BC = 1419.
The Scenario ends at 1000 BC = 1819

So 2500 = 1519 / 2000 = 1619 and 1500 = 1719

The mayor problem we will walk into is that most of the events we will 'write' take place between 1500 and 1000 BC, and almost no one between 3000 and 2000BC.

This will make a rather dull 150 year (I assume you are colonizing and re-settling during the first 50 years) playing period which can be changed with a little fantasy.

What do you think on this?

The actual dates for the scenario are 2600 BC to 1000 BC, so the game years are exactly 4 actual years. And there will be a few earlier events, though not very many, to simulate the rise and fall of the Mesopotamian powers. But you are right, it could be a little slow. Maybe one fewer colonist?

I think something is wrong here. Or were there more than one Nebuchadnezzar? Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon plundered Jerusalem in about 650 BC....
It looks like a sort of mix of different empires here that you have monarchs for. We have Sumer, Akkad, Assyria...

No, not fewer colonists. The rate in which they come at the start is nice like it is.

Could you create a little timeline on which we can base our events more easy?

the first two columsn are Akkad and Sumer. The remainder after the bar is Assyrian which was the two combined. ( I think)

this was just a bit of frst info. I will dig further and come up iwth more soon.

How are the sources for Israel, found anything yet?

2600BC start of Scenario game year 1419
2564BC Tower of Babel game year 1428
2370BC Sargon of Akkad 1494
2134BC Old Kingdom of Egypt ends 1535
1792BC Hammurabi 1621
1456BC Hittite Imperialism 1705
1275BC Battle of Kadesh 1750
1020BC Kingdom of Israel founded 1814

These are approximate dates, from chronologies on the web. Just remember--1 game year = 4 actual years.

I may fudge a little, and allow Solomon in Israel for a little before the end. He was actually at 961BC to 922BC, David from 1000BC to 961BC

Heh. Israel is easy. The Bible has plenty of historical events, and the monarchs, and enough chronology to work it out very nearly to the year.

Daniel, Here I have two events I could describe for now, most of the other Assyrian events would need cooperation with other countries and very difficult events. But it is certainly possible to get a very nice eventfull game as them.

[Centralization event]

Start-1813 death-1780

Trigger: own: 529 (tabaristan), 491 (Lebanon)

King, Shamshi-Adad I, has succeeded in extending the territory of Assyria from the Zagros Mountains to the Mediterranean Sea. Shamshi-Adad may have been the first ruler to establish a centrally organized empire in the ancient Middle East. He divided his kingdom into districts under specially appointed administrators and councils, instituted a system of couriers, and took a census of the population at regular intervals.

Centralization of government
Innovativeness +2
Centralization +4
Infrastructure + d 1500

[Nomad invasion]

Start 1760BC death 1700BC

Trigger: fires at random

The Kassites, a non-Semitic people, invaded Mesopotamia in the 16th century BC and tried to seize political power. Another non-Semitic mountain people, the Hurrians, infiltrated practically all northern Mesopotamia and even reached Palestine to the west. Close behind the Hurrians, and to some extent intermingling with them, came an Indo-European people whose name is unknown. As a result of these migrations and wanderings, the 16th century BC was one of turmoil in Mesopotamian history.

Choice a: fight them.
Stab –1
Infra: -D 2000
Merchants –5

Choice B: bribe them
Stab –2
-D 500/ -D 1000

:D Hmm, I have downloaded your ATF and I going to play it, what county do you reckon I should start??

Thanks

Joe (Sapphire)

Any of the 3. Then at the Tower of Babel, pick one of the 4 choices...
I like to play Japheth/Phoenicia. Good location for colonization. The only problem is the player nation doesn't get cores. For AI, they get cores on whatever provinces can declare independence as them. Also, beware: if you play on very hard it is very hard, for you will get +30 BB at the tower of Babel, and I haven't made BB reducer events for them. So, beware... It is good and hard!

Nice! The kassites are a player nation, remember. The Hurrians fused with whoever was in central Anatolia before them and became the Hittites, according to several sources I have seen.

Okay, some more changes I will implement; I spent several hours Saturday researching.
  • add Mari (Syria)
    add Kizzuwadna (Taurus + Adana)
    add Lycia (Antalya)
Move Lydia to Smyrna, Troy up one
add Phyrgia (took over after fall of Hittites in 1200 BC)
    add Urartu (Armenia)
add Cimmerians (Russia, pushed south by Scythians in 700 BC)
add Guti (Hamadan, conquered Akkad in 2200 BC)
    add Lullubi (Lut)
Move Medes further out; moved to Kurdistan after 1000 BC
Remove Persia (was a Medic tribe, conquered Elam after 1000 BC)
    add Kardu or Kurdu (Kurdistan)
    add Gaels (Ireland)
    add Belgians (Celtic, in Belgium)
    move Picts to Scotland

Come on, people! I know you're out there! Daniel hasn't been able to work on the scenario for a while (school, you know), but that doesn't mean he's through with it. If he can't answer your posts (though I think he will), I or Singleton Mosby will.
(Sorry if I sound like I'm taking over. I'm not, but as one of the original two authors, I think I have at least some right to the scenario.) :D
