This spawned in kind of a bad place. (I tried reloading an earlier save, but it was pre-ordained).

So with a rank 9 scientist with archeologist trait and an excessive amount of reloading saves.

Impressive - you really must have wanted that…
He just wanted it done, so he could finish that Ringworld and eat all those planets.

Early Space Age primitives, one system away from some Militant Isolationists.

They're in for a rough few decades.
I saw that once for an Industrial planet. I parked my armies over them, built an outpost, the FE got pissy, I sent down my troops, took down the outpost, and quickly resettled everyone on my worlds once the invasion was over.

I hope they thanked me.

I did that once too, but later realized it was unessesary. The "do not colonize" problem did not include Empire Capitol Planets. But it as has been a while since I checked.

Idk if it's an issue with the gigastructure mod, but there was a time you could build Dyson sphere around pulsar, they look quite fragile too

No mods, just a Red Giant.
(That's why the system is named Aldebaran - I'm "that" kind of player.)

Well... on Grand Admiral, with highest difficulty of the end game crisis - It looks like the Scourge walked into a bad neighborhood.

I am disappointed though. Thought they didn't spawn in the player's empire unless all outer planets are owned by the player. Held back waiting for the full force to arrive after this, but our federation allies rolled in and destroyed the last outpost. (At full health, each one of those fleets is between 200-250k power; 395k fed).

Still the case; when they became spacefaring the FE declared war and humiliated them every ten years on the dot. Pretty damn anti-climatic. I eventually mercy-killed them with a Planet Cracker.

My understanding is that they will preferentially arrive in unclaimed space, but otherwise they just can't show up next to a Fallen/Awakened Empire.
Yep. If all outer systems are claimed, they'll invade someone's empire instead.

Although in the posted screenshot, I'm just imagining them yelling at each other: GO BACK GO BACK! WE'RE TAKING OUR CHANCES WITH THE HUNTERS!

Actually, it works that way: in the wiki they states, that if you kill the first wave fast enough, there is nothing else coming. The first wave is just an scout force. If the scout force gives back bad news or no news at all, the main force does not follow.

With the NSC mods, you have one who greatly boost crisis fleets (2M power in 5x crisis strenght) they realy feel like an existential treath! Add the multiple crisis mod, and you get a realy eerie endgame, where you quickly become the last bastion, seeing Contingency fleets fighting Prethoryn and Unbbiden, and casualy crashing into your worlds ;)
