Great job! As always I have some qurstions and requests:

-1 Is Aleksandr Mikhailovich ruler of the republic of Pskov at the start and are there events regarding his return to Tver and his "rivalry" with Moscow and the Golden Horde?
-2 Who's the ruler of the Vyatka tag and is it a republic?
-3 Last time you told me that the tag of Novgorod can have it's historical name(Sovereign Lord Novgorod the Great) but since Nizhny Nivgorod exists as a tag from the start I feel like that the other Novgorod(both tag and location) should be normally called Veliky Novgorod(or Great Novgorod in English) to distinguish the 2 since they are relatively close
-4 Someone mentioned in the tinto maps that for consistency the Moscovy tag should be renamed to Moscow to which I agree since that the name Moscovy/Moscovia although fine is a western exonym, the Rus started properly calling both city(country) and river Moskva(Moscow) around this time period
-5 On the same note of the previous two can you rename Perm to its official name Great Perm plz?
-6 Since Vladimir and Moscow have been split does that mean that the former is a tier three tag(Grand principality) and the latter a tier two(principality)?
-7 Is Russia a kingdom or an Empire tier formable tag? Considering Russia first united as a Tsardom under Ivan the terrible and officially became an empire centuries later under Peter the Great I'd say the first one makes more sense especially if we compare it to Bulgaria
1. Yes to the first, no to the second.
2. Not touched, unknown AFAIK, so it starts with a random ruler and dynasty.
3. We'll consider it.
4. We're aware, we've kept and favored for the moment archaicism, as feeling more flavourish, although we'll keep reading the feedback regarding it.
5. Doable.
6. Hmm, good question, as the flavor title of the Tatar Yoke leader is 'Grand Prince of Vladimir'... I'll give it a thought, thanks.
8. Empire ATM, but could be changed.

@SaintDaveUK I think an effect like this (the lakes) should be added to all impassable terrain, it gets confusing when you can't tell the difference in the province/area mapmode

Nice to see so much attention to detail given for these reviews :)

Also I have a question that isn't necessarily related to this, about character names. Basically, how are they coded in? Do you have a separate pool for commoner names / ruler names? For different religions? Do specific countries get unique names or just cultures?
They're done by cultures, both for commoners, and for the upper class, and as a side system, we also have dynastical names.

Great work with this, though I have a few things I want to ask and say immediately before more detailed feedback.

1. Are the borders against Finland meant to be final? It's a lot more accurate than originally, but the border at Alakurtti seems to follow the modern border instead of a more historical pre winter war like border. Also, the border of Korela against Savolax and Kajanaland is a bit inaccurate. I wrote about these things more precisely on the Scandinavia thread (https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...f-july-2024-scandinavia.1695964/post-29784858).

1733753997550.png

2. Is there a reason why the borders of the historical Lopskie pogosty (purple) are drawn precisely on the map without any of the provinces following its borders?
1733753722620.png

3. Also, Oreshek should control all of the coastal locations of Korela (Kurkijoki, Sordavala, Loimola and Salmi). Narimantas ruled over the whole province, so in game the coastal inhabited parts of it.

4. Ingrian and Karelian currently have very similar colors. Perhaps Ingrian could be made a more orangeish yellow? Some people also suggested renaming Ingrian to Izhorian to avoid confusion with the Ingrian Finns.

Not many changes in the religious map mode. The main one is the portrayal of 'Finnish ancient religion' ('Suomalainen muinaisusko'), which we've called in-game 'Muinaisusko'; please let us know if you like this name, as well.
Like it a lot better, as long as it isn't Ukkousko/Ukonusko I'm happy.
1. Votian, one of the cultural Animist religions that we know need to rework.
Votian is another baltofinnic language so you should probably include them in the finnic religion.

Finally, I want to repeat what others have said before that there was a large pagan revolt in Estonia after the start date and Christianization started there quite recently. There should be a nontrivial number of pagans there if there aren't already.

Are the Slavic population in the Golden Horde included in this Feedback? Because I see too many Slavic people in Uren(instead of Mari) and too little in Yelets and Lipetsk.
No, not yet.

@Pavía regarding the Vladimir question number 6, if that's the case then I suggest making a mechanic where the PU over Vladimir is granted to the "leader" of the Tatar yoke(in this case Moscow at the start) that the Golden horde appoints and have Valdimir be a Grand Principality as it was historically, there is something similar to this little Eu4 mod called Anbennar where there's a tag called Orda Aldresia which is programmed to become a vassal to whatever tags becomes is thr Emperor
Also this map below looks "empty" atm, can you give a unique colour to whoever is the grand prince and another one to Vladimir itself if you do as I suggested above

In the first screenshot you can see the wider picture of the region, while in the second, we have the Russian Principalities more in detail. The main change here, besides the additions, is that most of them are now under the Tatar Yoke. Speaking of that, two more screenshots, the first with the IO itself, the second with the lands ruled by Ivan I 'Kalita', Prince of Muscovy:

The second screenshot is taken playing as Novgorod, which has an elective system to pick its ruler, the current one being Ivan I 'Kalita'; you may see that Pskov and Orshek are subjects of Novgorod, while the other Principalities share with Novgorod a Personal Union under the aforementioned Prince of Muscovy.

Some tweaks here, as we now have Bjarmian, Polatskian, and Smolenskian spreading over the Russian map. It's WIP, so suggestions are welcome.

This is our current proposal for Russia, following the feedback received, although take it as non-final. First, there are two Languages, Russian and Ruthenian, both belonging to the Slavic language family. Each of them is divided into two different 'Dialects' (remember, this is a gameplay term, as they're closer to real-life languages), Novgorodian and Russian for Russian, and Belarusian and Ukrainian for Ruthenian. The later terms are a bit modern for 1337, but we wanted to show here clearly what linguistical spheres we wanted to portray; we will gladly receive suggestions to potentially change these names for more flavorish ones if you think so. Finally, the third map is the Court Language, as you may notice because of having Latin over the Livonian and Prussian lands.

Religions
View attachment 1228124
Not many changes in the religious map mode. The main one is the portrayal of 'Finnish ancient religion' ('Suomalainen muinaisusko'), which we've called in-game 'Muinaisusko'; please let us know if you like this name, as well.

Not many differences, but I thought that a bigger picture wouldn't hurt, as taking a look at another endonym possible with our new flavor system, 'Moskva'.

And that's all for today! We'll be reading your feedback to our feedback review (feedback loop!), and replying to your questions, as usual. The next Tinto Maps will be this Friday, the 13th, about Central America. Aaand, we will be able to have one more Tinto Maps Feedback post before the Christmas break, the one devoted to Levant and Egypt, next Monday, the 16th! Cheers!

Why is culture so selective? What makes the cities Russian and the lands Tatar?

In the first screenshot you can see the wider picture of the region, while in the second, we have the Russian Principalities more in detail. The main change here, besides the additions, is that most of them are now under the Tatar Yoke. Speaking of that, two more screenshots, the first with the IO itself, the second with the lands ruled by Ivan I 'Kalita', Prince of Muscovy:

View attachment 1228098
The second screenshot is taken playing as Novgorod, which has an elective system to pick its ruler, the current one being Ivan I 'Kalita'; you may see that Pskov and Orshek are subjects of Novgorod, while the other Principalities share with Novgorod a Personal Union under the aforementioned Prince of Muscovy.

Some tweaks here, as we now have Bjarmian, Polatskian, and Smolenskian spreading over the Russian map. It's WIP, so suggestions are welcome.

Languages

View attachment 1228118

Markets

Not many differences, but I thought that a bigger picture wouldn't hurt, as taking a look at another endonym possible with our new flavor system, 'Moskva'.

And that's all for today! We'll be reading your feedback to our feedback review (feedback loop!), and replying to your questions, as usual. The next Tinto Maps will be this Friday, the 13th, about Central America. Aaand, we will be able to have one more Tinto Maps Feedback post before the Christmas break, the one devoted to Levant and Egypt, next Monday, the 16th! Cheers!
I think Toropets and Rzhev should not be a part of Lithuania yet

Shamefully taken from Russian Wikipedia:

Rzhev:
The princes of Tver and Novgorod, whose possessions came directly to Rzhev, repeatedly tried to take it away from Moscow. In the XIV century, Moscow and Lithuania fought over the city, and it changed hands several times. In 1356 Rzhev was captured by the Lithuanian Grand Duke Olgerd; the Lithuanians put Ivan, son of Prince Sizhsky, in Rzhev (“Sizhsky's son Ivan sat down with Lithuania in Rzhev”). V. A. Kuchkin understands this news as evidence that the Lithuanians then for the first time captured Rzhev[9]. Two years later it was repulsed by the troops of Grand Duke Ivan II the Red. In 1359 Rzhev for nine years was again in possession of Lithuania, and only in 1368 Moscow again joins it to its lands. In 1376 Rzhev is mentioned again as a Lithuanian possession, and the participation of the Rzhev army in Dmitry Donskoy's campaign against Novgorod in 1386 indicates that the city belonged to Moscow at that time.

Toropets:

From the XIII century the Lithuanian onslaught on Toropets intensified. Thus, in 1225 the attack of the Lithuanian princes was repulsed by the joint efforts of the troops of David Mstislavich and his son-in-law, the Novgorod prince Yaroslav Vsevolodovich, but in 1226 David fell in battle with the Lithuanians near Usvyat, a town in the east of the Polotsk land[11][18]. In 1245, the Lithuanians undertook the largest invasion of Russian lands; they captured Toropets and devastated it, but the Novgorod army of Alexander Nevsky (son of Yaroslav Vsevolodovich and - by his mother - grandson of Mstislav Udatny) repulsed the city, and then in two fierce battles - at Zhizhets (35 kilometres southwest of Toropets) and Usvyat (another 65 kilometres southwest) - defeated the Lithuanians.

For Alexander Yaroslavich Toropets was significant also because it was here in 1239 when he had not yet earned his famous nickname Nevsky, that the prince was married to Alexandra, daughter of Polotsk prince Briachislav)[20][21]. From her, the city inherited one of the main local shrines - the Korsun icon of the Mother of God, which was kept in the cathedral of the same name for more than 700 years.

Only in 1362 Toropets was occupied by the Lithuanian prince Olgerd and became part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania[22].

I'm pretty sure that the principality of Toropets was a vassal of Lithuania by 1337, Rhzev probably not since we know they resisted Algirdas

Hello, and welcome to another Tinto Maps feedback review! This week, we will be taking a look at Russia, a very anticipated review (which Johan already advanced in some maps last week).

A note before we start on the area that we've covered in this update. We've focused it on the core Russian lands, plus the Kola Peninsula. This means we've not yet updated the lands of Vyatka and Perm, nor those ruled by the Golden Horde. These will be covered in the future Tinto Maps feedback post, probably the one for the Steppes and Western Siberia. With that said, let's take a look at the list of changes, and then start with maps!

Dynasties

The map of Russia is much clear when you just take into account the ruling dynasties... :p

Russia is in general terms a cold, flat, and forested region. The climate has already been changed to the new standard (1901 distribution). Please let us know any further terrain suggestions for us!

Development

View attachment 1228113
Another new map, the development one. There's a big difference between the core lands, and the outer ones.

Harbors
View attachment 1228114
A few interesting harbors here.

Cultures
View attachment 1228115
Some tweaks here, as we now have Bjarmian, Polatskian, and Smolenskian spreading over the Russian map. It's WIP, so suggestions are welcome.

Languages

View attachment 1228118

I suggest you to make an exercise, and find the differences with the original Tinto Maps...

Markets
View attachment 1228130
Not many differences, but I thought that a bigger picture wouldn't hurt, as taking a look at another endonym possible with our new flavor system, 'Moskva'.

And that's all for today! We'll be reading your feedback to our feedback review (feedback loop!), and replying to your questions, as usual. The next Tinto Maps will be this Friday, the 13th, about Central America. Aaand, we will be able to have one more Tinto Maps Feedback post before the Christmas break, the one devoted to Levant and Egypt, next Monday, the 16th! Cheers!
language of Vyatka should be Novgorodian

It was established by Novgorodian Pirates. And there should not be Slavic cultures there except Vyatka (location) itself

Making the entirety of Kola, and most of Karelia and Finland wetlands is a brave change, but I like it.

Finnic SHOULD be split up as a language at least between Balto-Finnic and Sámi, in my opinion, with their dialects.

I recognise that the Tengri, Nenets and teleporting Vepsians of the East belong to a different region, so I won't comment on those

Could you say what is your policy regarding feedback to feedback?
Do you wait with implementing it until entire map goes through Feedback 1, or do you implement at least some of it as you go?

What are some of the culture groups the cultures belong to? Are there broad culture groups like Slavic or Turkic that Muscovite or Mishary can also be part of?

Usually on the go, because 'Feedback of the Feedback' posts would be tiresome for everybody, and two rounds of feedback are usually enough to gather all the relevant information that may help us.

Dynasties

The map of Russia is much clear when you just take into account the ruling dynasties... :p

A map mode that we hadn't revealed yet when we first presented Russia, as a few more below.

Russia is in general terms a cold, flat, and forested region. The climate has already been changed to the new standard (1901 distribution). Please let us know any further terrain suggestions for us!

Development

View attachment 1228113
Another new map, the development one. There's a big difference between the core lands, and the outer ones.

Harbors

A few interesting harbors here.

Cultures
View attachment 1228115
Some tweaks here, as we now have Bjarmian, Polatskian, and Smolenskian spreading over the Russian map. It's WIP, so suggestions are welcome.

Languages

Cheers!
Why areas were not based on Russian Empire gubernias? I think it is a much better fit.

Reactions:
What are some of the culture groups the cultures belong to? Are there broad culture groups like Slavic or Turkic that Muscovite or Mishary can also be part of?
Russian and Slavic culture groups, and there's also a Tatar one.
