This is something we've put our eyes upon... Any suggestions for a Naples color change?

(Because if we propose to change the color of BYZ, I'm pretty sure that some byzantophiles will love to blind and castrate us...)
Blue, like its flag, it is a french led kingdom anyway so it fits.
You should also change the colour of Sicily, I like it but its too similar to Tunis and Genoa, I would suggest making it more orangy.

Is Achaea ruled by Catherine II? In that case Cephalonia(which I assume is ruled by her son Robert II) should be a direct vassal of Achea which should be vassal of Naples
Achaea is ruled by Catherine II, and Cephalonia by his son, Robert II, indeed. While Achaea is a subject of Naples, we haven't made Cephalonia the subject of anyone, I'll double-check, and make a hotfix, if that's the case, thanks for noting!

Damn, what an improvement, well done. The only issue I see is Albania being grouped with Greece as an area, seems a bit odd. And while not at all relevant to this thread, we Amalfiheads fight for the right to have Amalfi exist! even if it was basically decimated only 6 years after the start date. Either way, justice for Amalfi!

Not really a good flavor name for it, we're open to suggestions, yes.
Split it along the Pindus and name them Epirus and Hellas? Whilst you're at it, naming that small province around Shkoder "Illyria" is really odd, given how large an area it historically referred to. As this area (especially if you expand it to include Bar) was the nucleus of historical Duklja/Dioclea, I think that would be a much better name.

@Pavía It doesn't seem you guys implemented the list of Venetian/Genoese location names in which I also found some informations(taken mainly by communal and state archives) regarding the ownership of certain cities,trading posts, forts etc... I posted, did it not go through or are you still reviewing it?
Could you link it again, please?

@Pavía thank you for the region facelift. I would humbly post an updated list of much needed changes. If nothing else, please reconsider the lacking Bulgarian-Hungarian common border, the impassable terrain suggestion and some of the egregious naming issues.

Suggestions for new locations:

Nesebar should be added, taking the northern part of Anhialo and the southern part of Varna and it should produce wine.

I see that Preslav is added which is great. It should be just Preslav though, not "Veliki Preslav" (Veliki means great, it is a recent addition to the name)

Pernik, an important town and military stronghold west of Sofia and east of Zemlungrad. The population mainly engaged in agriculture and/or animal husbandry

Suggestions for border changes:

I do not want to take credit for this suggestion so @Pavía ,please please please look at these commonly agreed suggestions between a Bulgarian, Greek and Serb (I suppose, lol):

Regarding the Serbian/Bulgarian border (Visesav, Svrljig, Kozelj and maybe Pirot):
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...rpathia-and-the-balkans.1693751/post-29959495
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...rpathia-and-the-balkans.1693751/post-29951850
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...rpathia-and-the-balkans.1693751/post-29952465

Višesav, Kozelj and Svrljg and the whole Vidin province should belong to Bulgaria or to a despotate of Vidin (if it is decided to place it on the map on the starting date) that would establish the historical border between Bulgaria and Hungary from which Hungary invaded Bulgaria more than once.

Suggestions for impassable terrain:

Generally, there should be a lot more impassable locations between the Danube plain in Northern Bulgaria and the southern land due to the Balkan mountains. More like the map of Imperator: Rome, although the mountain passess were even less than the map suggested there. These mountain passess were crucial even up to the Russo-Turkish war of 1877-1878, so they should not be underestimated. Ideally there should be no more than 4 or 5 to simulate the reality of the terrain. As other people mentioned the "Hills" of central Bulgaria should be mountains.
I understand however that the addition of more impassable terrain can be unwanted from a gameplay perspective. If @Pavía @Johan of anyone else could share their view on the topic it would be helpful.

The impassable terrain map should look something like this:

1720260183912.png

The possible crossings to the east of Bulgaria should be limited to two: one between Sliven and the current location of Targovishte and between Varna and what I have proposed to be Nesebar.

Suggestions for the Bulgarian dynasty:

It should not be Sratsimir but rather Shishmanovtsi or Shishman.

Suggestions for spelling changes (generally all of the cases of “j” should be replaced with “y” as per the rules of transcribing Bulgarian:

Lardeja->Lardeya

Suggestions for renaming:

Tarnovo->Tarnovgrad

Vidin (the name is a corruption of the original under Turkish influence)->Bdin

Blagoevgrad (named after the founder of the communist party and also the city didn’t really exist in the middle ages->Stob (a nearby location which used to be a city with significance). I cannot underetimate how anachronistic the name is.

Smolyan (named in the 20th century and was formed as an amalgamation of several villages)->Dyovlen (different city nearby with significance for the age)

Vratsa->Vratitsa

Razgrad->Hrazgrad

Targoviste->Kosovo or Misionis

Anhialo->Pomorie (Anhialo is the Greek name, it should be called like that if Byzantium controls it)

Tulcea->Tulitsa (Bulgarian name instead of Romanian as it is owned by Bulgaria)

Hârşova->Harsovo (Bulgarian name instead of Romanian as it is owned by Bulgaria)

Cernavoda-> Cherna Voda (Bulgarian name instead of Romanian as it is owned by Bulgaria)

Isaccea->Obluchitsa (Bulgarian name instead of Romanian as it is owned by Bulgaria)

Enisala->Novo Selo

North Dobruja province->North Dobrudzha

South Dobruja province->South Dobrudzha

Tarnovo province->Tarnovgrad

Rhodopes province->Rodopi

Vidin province->Bdin

Silistra province (an anachronism at that time)->Drastar

Suggestions for Bulgarian names for some of the locations outside Bulgaria:

Kilkis->Kukush

Serres->Syar

Xanthia->Ksanti

Edessa->Voden

Florina->Lerin

Komotini->Kumutsina

Adrianople->Odrin

Saranta Ekklistes->Lozengrad

Veria->Ber

Kastoria->Kostur

Thessaloniki->Solun

Constantinople->Tsarigrad (don’t forget the “i”, it’s not Tsargrad, that would be Russian)

Kočani->Kochani

Strumica->Strumitsa

Štip->Shtip

Skopje->Skopie

Bitola->Bitolya

Kitsabis->Kichevo

Tetovo->Htetovo

Dupnitsa -> Dubnitsa

Zemlungrad->Zemlangrad or Zemlengrad

Prokuplje->Prokuple

Vranje->Vranya

Svrljg->Svarlig

Kozelj->Kozel

Višesav->Vishesav

Niš->Nish

(and so on, all names with “š” should have “sh”, if owned by Bulgaria, “č” and “ć” should be “ch” and “j” should be “y”. “C” in other south Slavic languages should be transcribed as “ts” if owned by Bulgaria)

Giurgiu->Yorgovo

Zimnicea->Zimnitsa

Turnu Magurele->Malak Nikopol or Holavnik

Braila->Braila (without the a with dash)

I would think a deeper and more Blue-ish Purple to align more closely with the D'Anjou House that the Kingdom of Naples' Flag is based on would look quite good!

Wallachia finally has its iron-mine! Amazing! As well as copper and two salt deposits.

The iron-mine should probably be located within Targu Bengai, though, as it seems that Baia de Fier (the iron-mine in question) is located within that location (could use a double-check).

Although as a regent It should be the case in 1337 from what I found since Robert II at the time was too young too rule and even after he became an adult he was more interested in the principality of Taranto a polity which many have advocated to be represented in the tinto maps of Italy
Screenshot_20241201_084146_Chrome.jpg

After he became adult he didn't care much for Achea and after his mother died he never set foot there, the county palatine of Cephalonia and Zakynthos was officially under Achea at the time and eventually Robert gave the Cephalonia amd Zakynthos to Leonardo Tocco(who in 1337 should supposedly be ruling over Corfu as a governor under Albania since his father's death in 1335) in 1357 as a reward for helping him in Hungary.

@Pavía Ifound it, I made one for the steppe diary too for the Genoese colonies there and I also specified some things in the Anatolia feedback diary, like how Samsun was owned by Genoa in 1337 etc...:
The vast majority of these information are taken from communal and state archives

Here's the first part of a list of Venetian and Genoese trading posts/colonies they either have in 1337 or had at some point including their translation in Italian(I'm only gonna cover Genoa and Venice but there are other italian republics that have or had a presence in the region and it's plausible that there are still some of their minorities), the locations I put in this list are either the ones present in the game atm or all the islands on which Venice had a presence:
Native name in the game/Venetian/Italian(usually coincides with the Venetian one)

In 1337 Venice directly controls:

Poreč/Parenso/Parenzo
Rovinj/Rovigno
Pula/Pola
(P.s. officially all of Dalmatia was part of Croatia but Venice held a lot of islands and cities on the mainland, it was in 1409 after the king sold Dalmatia to Venice that Croatia lost all of its claims and possessions in the region)
Cres island/Cherso
Lošinj/Lusin/Lussino
Zadar/Zara
Šibenik/Sebenego/Sebenico(in 1337 it was momentary occupied by Venice albeit with low control)
Slano/Slano
Brač island/Braza/Brazza
Hvar island/Łexina/Lesina
Vis island/Lissa
Korčula island/Curzola
Ugljan island/Ugliano
Rab island/Arba
Pag island/Pago
Dubrovnik/Raguxa/Ragusa(by 1337 Ragusa was a vassal with a high degree of autonomy)
Methoni/Modon/Modone
Kythira/Cerigo(tachnically it was still contested in 1337, Venice had already a presence on the island but it would fully be controlled only from 1363)
Karpathos/Scarpanto
Samothrace island/Samotracia(it should be split from Imbros)
Astypalaia/Stampalia(bought in 1334 by the Venetian Giovanni Querini, its family held it until 1522 under the protection of Venice and not Naxos)

"Kingdom" of Candia:
Chiania/La Canea
Siteia/Sitia
Rethymno/Retimo
Heraklion/Candia
Gramvousa/Grabusa
Ano Viannos/Viannos

Duchy of the Archipelago(held by Venetians):
Syros/Siro
Paros/Paro
Naxos/Nasso
Milos/Milo
Andros/Andro
Kythnos/Citno
Sifnos/Sifanto
Thira/Santorini
Folegandros/Policandro
Ios/Io
Amorgos/Amorgo
Kimolos/Argentiera
Anaphe/Anafi
Astypalaia/Stampalia

Triarchy of Negroponte(protectorate of Venice):
Chalkis/Negroponte/Calcide(there are some sources that say that the bit on the mainland should be directly controlled by Venice, I'm not sure about it though while the part on the island is controlled by Negroponte and it's the capital of the triarchy)
Eretreia/Eretria
Kymi/Cuma Euboica
Klisoúra/Clissura
Oreós/Rio/Oreo
Karystos/Caristo(disputed since it was officially part of Negroponte but the facto controlled by Alfonso Fraderick count of Salona and Malta)
Ptelos(on the mainland but administarted by Negroponte)
Mykonos/Micono(owned privately by Barthlomew II Ghisi one of the three rulers of Negroponte)
Tinos/Tino(same as Mykonos)

In the past they used to rule over:
Trst(Slovene)/Triest(German and friulian)/Trieste(Italian and Venetian)
Biograd/Zaravecia/Zaravecchia
Trogir/Traù
Sporades/Sporadi(technically Venice didn't rule them directly, they were private possessions of the venetian nobleman Geremia Ghisi)
Skyros/Sciro(same as the sporades)
Lemnos/Lemno
Imbros/Imbro
Gelibolu/Gallipoli
Rhaedestus/Rodosto
Split/Spalato(in 1337 it was still owned by Croatia, albeit with pressure from Venice which would fully conquer it in 1420)
Durrës/Durazo/Durazzo
Kerkyra/Corfù(in 1337 it was most definitely an Angevin domain, most likely owned officially by Charles the duke of Durazzo/king of Albania, but considering how limited his power was outside of Durrës it's very likely that the island was very autonomous which is why I think it should be a vassal tag from the start ruled by a member of the Tocco family(we know Guglielmo Tocco acted as a governor of the island during the early 1330s most likely until he died in 1335), his son Leonardo I Tocco is the most likely one since after all he was eventually rewarded for his loyalty for helping Robert II of Taranto in Hungary with the islands of Cephalonia and Zachyntos which are not too far from Corfù
Makarska/Macarsca
Constantinople/Costantinopoli(never fully conquered but they used to have a trading post and there should still be a sizable amount of Venetian pops)

Islands and settlements they will rule in the future:
Rijeka/Fiume
Krk island/Vegia/Veglia(owned in 1337 by the principality of Krk, they were basically indipendent but officially vassals of Croatia)
Novigrad/Novegradi
Knin/Tenin
Sinj/Signo
Metković/Porto Narenta
Kotor/Càtaro/Cattaro
Bar/Antivari
Shkodër/Scutari
Lezhë/Alessio
Avlónas/Valona
Bouthorōtón/Butrinto
Párga/Parga
Preveza/Prevesa
Arta
Vonitsa/Vonizza
Leukas island/Santa Maura/Leucade
Kelphalonia/Cefalonia
Zakynthos/Zacinto/Zante
Nafpaktos/Lepanto(I found some sources that say that in 1337 it was owned by the Angevins, most likely Achea)
Amfissa/Salona
Patras/Patraso/Patrasso
Korinthos/Corinto
Monemvasia/Malvasia
Argos/Argo
Nafplion/Napoli di Romania
Ermióni/Ermioni
Mystrás/Mistra
Oítylo/Vytilo
Kalamáta/Calamata
Pontikokastro/Belveder
Kyparissía/Arcadia
Kalávryta/Callavrita
Karytania/Caritena
Vostítsa/Aigio
Tripolitsá/Tripolizza
Leukutron/Leuctra
Aegina/Egina
Athens/Atene
Imbros/Imbro
Thessaloniki/Salonico/Salonicco

Here's the second part of a list of Venetian and Genoese trading posts/colonies they either have in 1337 or had at some point including their translation in Italian(I'm only gonna cover Genoa and Venice but there are other italian republics that have or had a presence in the region and it's plausible that there are still some of their minorities), the locations I put in this list are either the ones present in the game atm or all the islands on which Genoa had a presence:
Native name in the game/Genoese/Italian(usually coincides with the Genoese one)

Aegean/Marmara, Genoa used to rule:

Pera(also known as Galata) was the most important colony in the region inhabited not only by Genoese but also Venetians, Ragusans and other Italic people all governed by the colony's own Podestà who built the famous tower in 1348

Chios/Scio/Chio(it was ruled by Genoa in the past but in 1337 it was owned by the Byzantines who took it in 1329 until Genoa came back in 1346, they should have a core or a claim at least)
Samos/Samo(same story as Chios)
Ikaria/Icaria(same story as Chios)
Ródos/Rodi(it was ruled by Genoa until 1309 when they gave it to the knights which granted them some privileges
Kos/Coo(pretty much same as Rhodes but it was disputed with Venice until recently)
Thásos/Taso(briefly occupied for from 1307 to 1313)
P.s.Crete was also occupied by Genoa for a few years after the 4th crusade

Although they may not have had the best relations in 1337 it is important to know that Genoa still had some influence and people around the islands and coastal settlements owned by the Byzantines despite never owning these ones below thanks to the treaty of Nymphaion of 1261:
Lemnos/Lemno
Thessaloniki/Salonicco
Athína/Atene(also had Venetian and other Italian minorities)
Rhaedestus/Rodosto

Islands and settlements that Genoa will own in the future:
Molyvos/Metimna
Mytilne/Mitilene(the Genoese occupied it with the majority of Lesbos in 1335 but were soon repelled by the Byzantines, eventually the Emperor gave the whole island to the Genoese in 1355)
Ainos/Enos/Eno
Samothrace/Samotracia
Imbros/Imbro

Romania/Moldova(Genoa should have some sort of presence in almost all of these by 1337) :

Giorgiu/San Giorgio(not clear if they control it directly but there are sources that say that it was probably founded by Genoese merchants so there should be a sizeable quantity of Genoese people and it also had a bank by 1337)
Brăila/Barilla(definitely controlled by Walacchia with some genoese, italian pops and a small trading post)
Galati/Caladda(they have an important trading post, some sources say it became part of Genoa in 1395 until 1445)
Chilia/Licostomo(we don't know where it was precisely but it is theorized to be in the in game location of Chilia and the fortress was built in 1381 somewhere in the Danube delta, it's not clear if the Genoese had some sort of trading post by 1337 so maybe there should be an event for it?)
Costanța/Costanza(they have an important trading post)

The following are old fortresses rebuilt on the Dniester river and owned by Genoa to trade and guard against the Romanians, Slavs and Mongols:
Cetateă Alba/Mauricastro(it is the most important trading post in the area, the location should definitely be owned by Genoa with a fortress)
Tighina/Teghenaccio(small trading post, although first mentioned in 1408 it is theorized that the fortress was built by the Genoese in the 12th cuntury and then captured after the formation of the principality of Moldavia)
Soroca/Policronia(same as Tighina)
Hotin(there ia no translation of this settlement, same as Tighina)

I mean, you could go for a darker, more imperial purple for the Unholy Roman Empire, but if we're talking Naples, I think a France-like, dark blue might work? They're ruled by the Anjous then, after all.
