One topic I think would be very interesting in a Dev Diary is why the Asset Tool it's not ready and they are having problems with it, but they have assets on the game. I mean, how are they created and why they can't repeat the system on the Asset Tool.

Will help us understand what's the problem with it, specially for those, like me, that are not into programming.

One piece of constructive feedback.

Perhaps try to sneak in the creator packs at the end of June (if at all possible).

I’m ok (and I think) many of us are ok waiting for the Ports and Bridges because that would expand a core gameplay experience that’s broken. Creator packs simply increase asset diversity and having more assets in the short term would be super helpful. You don’t have to offer them for sale until after summer if you wish but make them available to UE buyers.

I guess from my perspective I find it hard to imagine the post summer patch would include two creator packs, free content, other updates, a potential console release, etc. Followed by three more creator packs in Q4 and ports and bridges in q1 2025.

All while remaining responsive to the extensive feedback from the community about how to improve many dimensions of the game.

[...] What I find extremely disappointing is that there is again no mentioning of fixing the huge bugs.
1) the broken signature buildings (Dairy House, Oil Refinery and Ground Earth)
2) the broken postal services (due to mail never leaving cargo harbors/stations)
3) children and adults having jobs (plus many more similar inconsistencies in resident statistics)
4) the excessive presence of dogs (not only looking weird but also causing traffic and transportation problems)
5) extreme amounts of taxis coming from abroad
6) water behavior not according to the laws of physics

Is it really that difficult to focus on these things, just like we were promised?
[...]
The code is held together by duct tape and hope. CO couldn't tell you what's fixable even if they wanted to.
As a games company you know you're in trouble if 8 months after release you're still re-working how your economy simulation works...

Biffa mentioned that several things seemed to surprise them, I can't pull a quote out of my hat just now.
I'm listening to Biffa's video right now
And at 43:00 he says the exact opposite, that according to CO none of the stuff the three brought up particularly surprised them, and they're very pleased with that fact.

Hello Cities Mayors,
We wanted to provide you with an update on the status of our upcoming patches and content.

Economy Re-work
..., and we are excited to share it with you soon. This patch will not address everything, but to ensure it meets the expectations of our wider community, we want to give it a few more weeks ...

Upcoming Creator Packs
As a result of this extended feedback and adjustment period for the economy patch, the Creator Packs will be pushed to post-summer. ...

What is "summer lock"?
In accordance with Swedish and Finnish vacation laws and union agreements, both Paradox Interactive and Colossal Order observe a general holiday period during the month of July and parts of August, where employees have the right to four consecutive weeks of vacation. This means that our staffing levels are reduced on both the development and publishing side. Therefore, we avoid scheduling any updates during this time period. As there is always a potential risk when patching a game, we always want to have the necessary personnel available in case any critical bug is introduced so we can fix it within a reasonable timeframe. Hence, we do not plan for patches or updates in the month of July or early August.

Upcoming Patches
The patch, scheduled for release soon, ...

The next patch, expected after summer, ...

Consoles
We had a Beta build delivery at the end of April which has undergone extensive performance and stability tests. These results showed that we are not hitting the stability and performance targets that we want to reach...

So... basically, "glacial pace" is official policy, and despite what a disaster y'all have on your hands, you feel it's perfectly fine to "exercise your rights" and f off for two months.

Just because you have the right doesnt mean you need to exercise it. Genuinely hope it rains the entire time.

It literally does, though. It's the law. You have to take vacation days. You are not allowed to waive them.
Again, so much valid criticism to throw at CO; but "how dare you excercise your workers rights" REALLY isn't one of them. That is the singular sillyest hill to die on.

The problem is not the days off, which are a right and therefore no one can say anything.

The problem is that everything is preceded by absolutely disastrous and inconclusive months, where there have been no significant improvements to the game, no innovations introduced, times and words not respected, continuous and continuous postponements after postponements... to all this if you add that stop work even for a month, this thing obviously makes the betrayed people turn up their noses, fed up with paying for a product not delivered as planned and I repeat, not improved in 1 year...

Why exaggerate things? 1 year? Really? There are still 5 months to go till the release will be 1 year ago

Considering that this patch will "perhaps" be released in June, that it is not known what real improvements it will bring to the game, and considering that the content creator pack and MOD assets have been postponed after the summer and that they should return to work in September... It should have been practically 1 year, don't you think?

I also add another consideration: the release before the summer of the content creator packs, or the regions packs or better yet the MOD assets would have been very useful to face the team's summer period without work, to give breathing space to the game, to provide greater variability, imagination and an outlet for the creativity of the players...So instead, after months and months we find ourselves with only a few more "beach" assets and a patch whose real impact remains to be verified...

Among other things, one of these possible ways to cushion the situation was officially declared to be released for this period, but I didn't say this, it was official news, so make your own conclusions...

I feel like these comments sum up all the different emotions, from far "yay" to far "nope":

Everybody is praising this as "transparency".
[...]
1. This is the first real word we've gotten on anything in a month. One communication a month is not being open and transparent.

2. This post, I'm almost 100% sure, is a direct result of conversation in the Way Forward thread where several of us yesterday and the day before were upset at the lack of communication. A month ago we were told a new patch would come in "about a month". Well, it's been "about a month", and we were looking for updates- and basically being told there's nothing to say and nobody can be sure of anything. This post is a result of that upset. The window was not transparent until we banged on it and somebody opened it up.
[...]
Transparency is proactive, not reactive.
[...]
Transparency is not radio silence until people start getting upset again.
[...]
This, sadly!

What I take from this "update":
1. More delays (for no reason... we ultimate edition buyers already paid for this postponed content)
2. We are working on stuff but only give abstract information without concrete details on what we are doing, but we do dedicate an entire section to how we value player feedback; just not you, reader, but fickle influencers and modders who barely have time to actually play and do not play vanilla.

Edit: autocorrect typo
Not this (I understand, they failed but I feel like we're passed that, no need to reiterate that every. single. time)

Ah yes because they enjoy not releasing content and dlc, it's great for buisnsss so they're going to keep delaying for no reason.
What a dumb take
This

I am looking forward to the economic rework, and I can't wait for the ability to delete building upgrades.

Also, finally, the communication is where it is supposed to be. Open, honest and with time estimates so that we actually know what is going on at CO. Thanks for that!
Kinda this?

So we are still in beta. I'll wait for the full version.
And for now... CS1 is working great!
Definitely this

What about animations for citizens and police and fireman and parks and sport parks and bikes and building up buildings. So that way we can have life in the game then it looks dead or boring?
THIS!!! City is as dead as the cemetery (literally, have you ever seen people going there lol)

I'm glad to see the game is approaching 1.0 status. About time.

I'm also glad to see that Paradox has taken over communication from Colossal Order's CEO.
It's nice to have professional communication that doesn't blame the players.
This

You realize this game used to get weekly communications?

I think if you do some careful math you might find out that we are getting 20% of the communication we used to be, after two separate promises for more and better communication.

Yep, imagine how much good will we'd have- EVEN IF WE HAD TO PAY FOR IT- if content we were promised was coming MONTHS AGO was actually available for us for this long, long, long period where there will be nothing but silence and then an unknown wait for a patch that will probably be the last patch before it's been a YEAR of this.

I paid for the ultimate edition.

I am owed this content.

And they, while admitting it's a meager effort to put it in the game and get it in our hands, have delayed it. AGAIN. For what is at least the THIRD TIME. While admitting it's minimal effort to put into the game! The mind boggles! I paid you for this a year ago, give it to me, thanks!

Would LOVE to have more assets to play with during the several month long period where you'll be giving us absolutely nothing, yes, please.

We are working with our partners to try to find a solution, and if we do you will let you all know!

I think paradox team should contact other game developers who have found a way to support mods in GeForce Now, I know few popular titles support mods in GeForce Now.

Please try to share the status in few blog or faq post so we will stay updated about it.

Currently we can enjoy Cities Skylines 2 in GeForce now because of our system configuration and added the mod in GeForce Now will surely bring more userbase ☺️

They are between a rock and a hard place.
The fact that they are focusing on making the game more stable before putting out more paid content has been well received in general.
But then there are those with Ultimate who are waiting for their Ultimate bonuses - which equals to releasing paid content instead of focusing on making the game stable, which isn't going to be very well received considering the previous 4% fiasco. But those people aren't entitled for receiving their content quicker than anyone else. Timeline slipped a bunch of times and everyone is equally affected.

Hello Cities Mayors,
We wanted to provide you with an update on the status of our upcoming patches and content.

Economy Re-work
The initial implementation of the economy re-work is done, and the patch is currently being polished. Our internal team, along with feedback from our Beta group, indicates we are heading in the right direction, and we are excited to share it with you soon. This patch will not address everything, but to ensure it meets the expectations of our wider community, we want to give it a few more weeks so we can take action on more of the feedback we have received from the Beta group. The goal of the patch is to address the community feedback we have received in regards to the economy; increase the importance of managing the economy, increase the challenge, and make it clearer to the player how the economy is affected by your choices. Currently, we aim to release the patch in the window June 3rd - June 19th and we will be detailing the update further in upcoming Dev Diaries.

Upcoming Creator Packs
As a result of this extended feedback and adjustment period for the economy patch, the Creator Packs will be pushed to post-summer. Even though the Creator Packs require relatively little time for implementation from Colossal Order, we want to make sure the upcoming economy patch has the intended result, and that we have time to also evaluate your feedback before we release any new paid content. This means we will move the Creator Packs to release after the summer lock.

The patch, scheduled for release soon, primarily focuses on the economy. However, there are some other requested improvements included such as an update to the building upgrade system. This means you will be able to place building upgrades more freely around the main buildings and also delete and move specific upgrades. We will provide detailed patch notes in connection to the patch as usual.

The next patch, expected after summer, will introduce some free content and other frequent requests, such as new service buildings and vehicles, as well as the addition of a surface tool to allow more freedom to paint the areas around buildings. We are also making progress with the technical difficulties that are blocking the release of the asset editor; we cannot confirm if it will be ready for the first patch after summer, so no promises just yet, but we are doing everything we can to make it so.

Consoles
We had a Beta build delivery at the end of April which has undergone extensive performance and stability tests. These results showed that we are not hitting the stability and performance targets that we want to reach. Fixing these crashes and improving the FPS is the highest priority when it comes to the console builds. The development team is working diligently and has already fixed some of the issues from these tests, and we still hope we can keep the timeline for an October release. But, to set expectations, the window for an October release is shrinking and it might have to be delayed further.

Player Feedback
We have two groups testing our patches and providing valuable feedback before public release: a long-standing group of dedicated modders and a newer group of community representatives and prominent modders who joined through the application process last year. We recently held a more intimate meeting with representatives from the community, who shared their insights and conveyed those of their follower base, on what they wish to see in the game. Once the economy patch is out, we will also launch a survey to gather feedback from you, the broader community. This will ensure that we understand your experience and continue heading in the right direction. We are also continuously reading posts you share on our official channels and we appreciate all the good and constructive feedback we have received over the past few weeks.
Thank you for being a part of our community and for your continued passion for Cities: Skylines II. Stay tuned for further updates on the economy patch and the timeline for upcoming patches and new content.

I have a question: are we still getting the different building style packs that you promised right after the release. I am not trying to hate, just I haven't heard about that in a while

For some reason, which has yet to be properly explained, these additional assets are being held hostage behind PDX mods.

Since Colossal Order, for some reason, which has yet to be properly explained, can't figure out the asset import pipeline in their own game, assets aren't yet a thing on PDX mods.

Until assets are a thing on PDX mods, these extra assets won't be available.

The current timeline for the asset editor is "Maybe not even after the summer vacation" as stated in the OP. So the asset editor has to come first, and this may well not be until September at the absolute earliest. You will be lucky to see this content before the game hits its 1 year anniversary, because- despite putting out a trailer for these assets the week the game came out, the devs have absolutely no idea how to make their own systems work for an entire year after.

I am not exaggerating. I am not embelishing. These are the simple facts of what is happening. They cannot get their own systems to work, and in the last 7 months have not figured it out, and say they don't know if they'll figure it out before September.

Considering eveyrthing they talk about gets delayed by several months, I'm betting we won't see them before November.

Even though they are already complete. Even though we saw video footage of them in the game. Even though there's absolutely NOTHING but a stubborn insistence they be released via PDX mods stopping the devs from simply putting them in the game as a free DLC. And if there is something stopping them besides "we just don't want to", they have not properly communicated that, because despite their dedication to better communication, they simply don't want to tell us anything about why content they promised was "coming soon" within THREE DAYS of the game's launch has not yet arrived and can't be delivered a different way.

You're describing how one should treat an early access game.

If I buy a car I'm not going to be "patient" for a year before the wheels are fitted. FFS
You bought it, you wait. You may not have the most satisfaction but would you rather shitty wheels or good wheels on your car. Sometimes small fixes aren't the best and its better to wait and you knew this game wasnt in a great condition when it came out they're trynna keep the wider audience happy
