Welll, I don't know then.
I'd prefer to use the names (transliteration) which are used in English Encyclopedia of Islam, as their transliteration fits much better to English pronounciation than those "English" names which are based on French.
And in most cases - especially in Sahara - I used those maps. Also AFAIK old French colonial names also often misspell or even change original Arabic/Berber names.

Therefore I change them, ok?

Yes that's what I meant. :)

Btw, noticed I forgot to upload the map.. Here it is. ;)

actualy, the correct form would be daco-roman or vlachs (after XIV century i guess).
oh, thanks for correcting me ;)

Daco-Roman is the best choice ;)

cool-toxic said:
Daco-Roman it is then. Dacian is a whole other culture. From around 200 AD.

historians nowadays call them daco-romans; back then they where still dacians (with romans influences and maby they called themselfs vlachs or something like that i dont realy know) anyway, it's your mod :p

I'm not going to comb through the 32 pages of stuff to see what's been said so far but, it could work.

It'd be extremely difficult, and you'd have to encode historical events in for a large number of nations, but it could happen.

Of course, in order to be accurate, wouldn't the Muslims after the death of Mohammed be insanely powerful and conquer most of the known world at the time?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umayyad

Encoding a realistic scenario would be very interesting if done, but extremely difficult. You'd probably need historical events which cause the dissolution of some of the extremely large empires, and allow the player to select which portion of the empire (which breaks up) to play as.

You really should read a bit through the last pages. I know that 32 pages are not fun to read through nor are the first many pages relevant. Half of this thread is two years old..;) Here is the thread where we make the map:

http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=259566

Indeed it's a long process but I'm sure that it'll be done sometime. :)
The events are far more easier to make than a whole new map. ;) Now that the map is almost done. (Well when the events, monarchs, leaders, starting setup and such are done we'll make India, China, Japan and Indochina. :)

If you want to help you are more than welcome. :)

Thanks for the offer but my EU2-related knowledge mostly relates to Portugal. I still have some AGCEEP scenarios there I'd like to make happen.

Btw, what time period will the mod cover? Will it permit colonization and travel across the world? (very ahistorical though, since Portugal created advanced ship/navigation technology in response to the Turks blocking off the east to Europe)

I might be interested in doing some Knights Templar events if it goes up to the crusades though.

It could be a great game, covering the rise of the islamic world.. from the early conquests of Muhammed in the Arabian peninsula, until 632 and onward when major parts of the planet were conquered by the excited muslims..

It could be an interesting variation.. because in this era, the Europeans were just primitive feudal societes.. things started to shift around year 1000, but Europe still had to wait 400 years until things started to happen here..

had it not been for the brave Franks in the west, and the Chinese in the east, the whole world could have been a part of the caliphate by now..

it could be a great game... covering 600 to about 1400(19..)

EDITED 21-11-2005:
The Islanist army and Chinese army met in central Asia. The battle nether side won they met under the flag of truce to reach agreement to meet next year to fight, the chinese taught the muslim how to make paper and the removed type printing press. That winter the government in chine recall all army unit back to eastern china to deal with unrest and civil war in china, when the central asian unit reach eastern china there was no more chinese empire, the chinese withdraw from western china also. When the winter was over the chinese army never show up so central asia was slowly turn islanist with Islam as the major religion. There where muslim in china durning the founder of Islam life who travel to china with they family as gemstone merchant bring they religion with them, the chinese empire was highly impress
with the moslim merchant and religion. The one battle was about who control central asia not about religion, Islam would have spead in central asia under chinese control and possible the government would have fallen afew years later anyway.

this is the link that Cool-Toxic gave me..
Hi there.

btw, just an idea... how about to move the period not back to 632, but rather "forward" to ... say 1169/1176/1187?

Now we have the most important part of map..

I know 1031 was generaly agreed, so this is just an idea for discussion.

I just would like to say that this mod is a great idea and i've seen the map and it looks fantastic and continue on, you are doing a great job.

It would be great if you could play it from 476 untill 1337 or 1419 but that is one millenium to play and i know its alot. But because its called Arabia universalis than it should start 632 when prophet Mohammed dies and finish 1291 when the last christian stronghold Acre is taken and crusades are finished. That is my idea, but maybe i'm wrong...

Anyway great job and i wish you good luck in finishing the mod...:)

(Sorry for my english)

Thank you for the interest you are welcome to join in and help. ;)

About the start and end date, the closer they are to each other the more accurate we can get the game to be. Atm without any expansions to EU2 we have limits on country tags and a lot of other things like tech. So we are not able to show everything between 632-1291 right. 711-1187 would be okay, but we'll see. :) Let's get the 711-1031 ready first. :)

I've moded my Caliphate leaders list for 476 mod and it worked well so i'm going to put it here and you can use it for Arabia Universalis if you want. Ofcourse some of its leaders are from Lofmans mod 476 and i hope he won't mind that i've put it here. I love playing with leaders in EU2 but i hate when there is no leader for 40 or 50 years while you play so i've managed to find generals in my history books and also i've used wiki and here they are:

The only thing i hate about EU2 is that leader box name which is to short and you can't change your leaders like in EU3 or Victoria. Is there possibility to fix this and create a leader box name little bit longer and changeable?

Again sorry for my english...
