I was just wondering if the development team has any plans to make a White Walker culture or events to allow a Lord Commander of the Night's Watch (player only if needed) to declare himself Night's King. I'm sure many players would love to play as a White Walker and invade Westeros with a great Wight army, or play as the Night's King and rebel against the status quo. I think those would be very fun scenarios to play out.

I think the issue is that we still don't really know anything about the White Walkers. Do they have an agenda? Do they think? Are they immortal (barring obsidian-related accidents)? We don't know enough for even the skeletal gameplay the mod has for some of the more obscure cultures. And that's without getting into questions about wights, or various theories about valyrian steel or dragons or magical barriers or what have you.

I'd say for now include a few events about rumors of their return, maybe a few incidents about wights and characters killed by them, things like that, and leave it at that

Hm, but if my understanding is correct a good deal of this mod is filling in the blanks left by Martin. Could the devs not gen up their own version of the White Walkers until -anything- else is written about them?

May I ask why you don't wish to see them as a playable culture in the mod? Sheer curiosity.

at the moment, we know literally nothing about them - the genius in GRRM's work, honestly, is the fact that they're the greatest threat and we know as much as Jon Snow does about them; which, as Ygritte loves to point out, absolutely nothing. And even later, my hunch is they'll never be worth playing because I think they're immortals who want to do nothing but conquer and whose armies could defeat everybody too easily; all the kingdoms of Westeros were needed in the Long Night to stop them, after all, even with the children of the forest's help

I don't think they should be playable, really. But it does feel like something is missing from the later scenarios. Maybe an optional Horde-style invasion, to give the Night's Watch a better sense of purpose and urgency and throw off everyone else's plans once they break through the Wall anyway.

yea....oddly enough, I feel like playing as Jon Snow as LC should be among the most exciting scenarios, not the bore-fest it is now.

If and when they are ever added, they would not be made as a playable race.

There already are several events dealing with them, particularly if you are a Wildling during winter.

the fact that they're the greatest threat

That's a fact is it? I guess we've been reading different books.

all the kingdoms of Westeros were needed in the Long Night to stop them, after all, even with the children of the forest's help

There is no evidence in the books at all the the Children of the Forest helped out. In fact the 13 heroes had to set out into the badlands just to find the CotF because they were perfectly safe and unharmed in their hidden cities.

No reason to make them playable...except of course as a joke-sub-mod, to the style of Crusader Kings Z. :p

However what should be added is their presence. There should be there sightseeings, characters should get stories across Westeros (just like of the dragons), some brothers of the Night's Watch should perhaps perish, etc.
There could be an interesting chain of events to tie-in with the canon; some men flee from the wall due to the white walkers, including sworn brothers; then the player could send ranger parties, who do not return mostly, or in just one case there's a survivor who tells the stories of the Others; then of course events with the wights, with the dead on the wall coming back to life.

As I said, there already are several events like this in the mod, and there have been for quite a while. They are just very rare, as they should be.

1. Well my opinion is that they are, which stems from the fact that Jon Snows plot has been followed from the beginning and had no real relation to the rest of the plot at the time. Since at the time I don't thinkvGRRM was going for filler chapters really, I consider it a pretty safe bet that Jon Snow is the main character of ASOIAF, or at least that his plot is.

2. It didn't? It's been a while since I read the books honestly so I must have been misremembering. My bad

If that is the case I will put down the book and never finish it. It would be so incredibly disappointing.

The idea I would assume is while the rest of the world is focused on the throne, everybody is ignoring the real threat. But I guess to each his own.

The problem with it is that, well, most of the book IS about the Throne and only barely touches on the Others outside of the Wall plotlines. It would certainly be disappointing if all those things ended up irrelevant.

That said, I'm not sure why you are assuming Jon Snow is the main character. If anyone is, from that perspective, it would probably be Daenerys?

It would be nice to have Prince That Was Promised-related events, aside from Azar Ahai stuff.

Oh, it won't be irrelevant, it will all tie together somehow. I can't find the source, but I do think the plots revolving around the thrones got a little more expanded on than he initially intended.

I recall someone once offered me the theory that the chaos thats happening in Westeros might've been purpousfully encouraged to make the realm easier to conquer for the walkers. Though I know barely bugger all about the setting so I've no idea if thats even a viable theory.

I would say you're partly right - it's being encouraged to make it easier for a Targaryen revival

That could also be it. Though I wonder what Littlefingers real agenda and role in all of this is. I haven't read any of the books so I don't know if his ultimate agenda is revealed.

nope, still not. there have been theories, of course, but nothing at all close to being definite.
