Honestly the only concerns for content I'd have would be maritime Southeast Asia and the Jurchen tribes. China, Japan, Vietnam, Korea etc. Seem likely to be pretty set, I doubt they'd have a specific Korea or Vietnam dlc.

A Tibet DLC would be good and fun but that would technically the be old map. Still I think it'd be relevant.

I could also see event packs and the content creator packs being made for the east, like I doubt Korea or Vietnam will have its own assets but I could see them getting attire packs like the North African and Sami ones. Or they could do event packs specifically focusing on China or other east Asian countries. Just wouldnt be major content dlcs.

Only big thing I could see is if they decide to do a "Eunuchs and Concubines" DLC focusing on mechanics and flavor for Harems, I could see it having content for all parts of the world that had a sort "Organized Harem" esque system, which could get more content for China.
They did hint that SE Asian tribes will be getting flavour and the like?

Well that was unnecessarily.... that.

You can have courtiers show up from far flung regions of the world, I've had catholics show up while playing in Burma before? people *do* move about, it's not that huge an abstraction to have an event fire where Muslim merchants or the like find their way to your court, the maritime silk road exists conceptually, even if it doesn't exist mechanically?
Catholics shouldn't go to india nor buddhists to england

I prefer the maritime silk road existing mechanically to promote the spread of whatever religion in-game MENA ends up having, and not just random Muslim merchants popping up in Indonesia in my Saoshyant run.

All Under Heaven will be just under doubling the size of the map. I am concerned that the new half will receive no specific mechanics or flavour content after All Under Heaven.

Five expansions (Northern Lords, Fate of Iberia, Legacy of Persia, Roads to Power, and Khans of the Steppe) dedicate most or all of their content to areas in the original world map. While All Under Heaven is a massive expansion in terms of content, I don’t think it will be able to deliver the regional flavour that those five expansions have. Regardless of what people think of the specific mechanics of those expansions, I think this is a concern. We’ve already heard that a particular element of Imperial Chinese history, court life, will be underemphasized in All Under Heaven. If All Under Heaven is the only way to play the eastern half of the map, any content for that area becomes reliant on, and most likely restricted to, it. Will there be a framework for Paradox to return to the eastern half of the map if they see fit? Will modders be able to add content to the eastern half of the map without people needing All under Heaven to play their mods?

One thing that might alleviate this concern would be the actual map expansion, not the mechanics of it, being added to the base game, like how diseases were added to the base game. However, there are issues with this. People who don’t want All Under Heaven might feel like a potential performance hit is being forced on them. People who purchase(d) All Under Heaven might feel like they’re losing exclusivity over a big chunk of what they paid for (I personally don’t mind, but I can understand why others would).

I am wondering what people’s thoughts are on this.

Edit: "Just under doubling" is definitely not correct, and has been corrected!
The map expansion will be part of the base game update, I thought they already made that clear.

All Under Heaven features content for:
China
Sinicized countries like Vietnam and Korea
Japan
South East Asia (Mandala)
The rest of the new map is either nomadic or tribal

Are we missing anything? The parts of the map that are gravely missing unique content like Europe and India have been there from the start

I suppose the one area being added in All Under Heaven which the devs haven’t discussed, and is thematically most removed from the flavour content of the expansion, is the southern bit of East Africa. I’m not sure if there will be any content there, and won’t be surprised if there isn’t. It might be left for an African dlc

I'd be surprised if they even got their own clothing but it would be a nice bonus. Probably it will play similarly to somalia now where youre tribal and likely to become clan

I think Kilwa is included in the expanded map. I would argue that the Sultanate deserves some content eventually, probably as part of an East African, general African, or Islam dlc

Kilwa itself (the city) isn't on the map (or if it is it is on the southernmost edge), and only the northern portions of the Kilwa Sultanate are on the expanded map.

The expanded map now ends just south of Zanzibar.

I wish they expanded the map further south, down to Mozambique at least, with the northern tip of Madagascar being included just like the western tip of New Guinea is included in the far east.

Yeah I don't know why they didn't push the map just a biiiiiit farther south to at least include Kilwa itself. Ideally even a bit further but at least include all of "core" Kilwa. I guess they were worried it would feel pointless without more of Africa and they were unwilling to include more.

..riding down skräelings with catapracts for the purple empire and establish more themes because why not?
I mean vikings did it so its more fun to take someone not expected. Aside from the usual dotindians go to meet their long lost feather indian cousins. Or the ghanan administrative republic goes back to carve MORE big african heads in central america. Just to keep modern day sino-norse archeologists from too much confusion. Clearly they were made around 1300 when the west african canoes sailed in and conquered the continent DUH!

Or just for the win of introducing elephants to the amazon jungle.

and this is my main issue with this post.

Why shouldn't this be the last East Asian Update?

It's already massive, and there are plenty of significant and important areas in the world that are in desperate need of reworks, content and flavor.

My main concern, probably worded poorly, was that there might be no potential at all for future additions, both by Paradox and by modders (without people needing All Under Heaven as a framework to play their mods), not just to E Asia, but SE Asia and SE Africa. This concern has been largely alleviated. Whether E Asia needs more content after All Under Heaven is more a thing of personal preference, I would probably say for Japan and China, it doesn't

because it will introduce many, many regions, and not everyone is gonna get their flavor. realistically there will may be more regions that desperately need flavour after AuH than before it, just because it will also introduce some places without mechanics & flavor tailored for them.

I would e.g. be OK with not having the parts of AuH on the map, but now that they are on the map, I will want them to eventually get some flavour. not before e.g. Tibet, mind you.

Just as they can have historical characters who's in-game religion is dependent on the religion of their historical region when they spawn........ that wouldn't be hard to add in to an event sans-maritime silk road. It's a simple switch to have the missionary event fire and then ask "what's the major religion in Arabia/Persia/ETC?

One thought I have is that the current southward expansion dodges having to figure out a way to hide Australia.

If the map extends down to Sofala in Mozambique, you can't avoid Australia in some form.
