Zoning tool has started working again for me. However, I would still second open-sourcing if possible, as it (can) allow community contributions. I think the UI could be improved (mainly condensed) to the point of either keeping the tool open permanently OR embedding within other existing menus.

Overall though, absolutely essential mod; thank you so much! P.S. If there would be any way of indicating which roads have zoning on only one side or the other, that would also be amazing!

It worked for me after Economics 2.0, but not working again after today's newest patch.. :(
Icon is still there, just won't do anything.
It only works if you select the type before placing the roads. Once placed with the selected type of zoning, you can only change by deleting the road.
Hopefully it will be updated, can't play without this.
Tbf, I really wish Paradox just add it to the game, it was in CS1 btw

Sadly, I think the modder zeeshanabid94 has not been here since April..
and the last update is in May. I don't think it's gonna be fixed anytime soon :(

Ok good to know!
And yeah, I don't know why Paradox didn't add this feature in the CS2 base game since it indeed was included in CS1

found it in about 10 seconds on github since I know how to use a search box: zeeshanabid94/ZoningToolkit
forums won't allow it to be linked

Hope this helps someone else, this is how I currently make the mod work after the detailers patch. I prefer to set the zoning to none as I lay out the roads.
Add zoning to road without any:
1. Lay out two lane road (will have no zoning as long as I set it to NONE before I build)
2. Set zoning to DEFAULT and replace tool the section of road with a two lane highway
3. replace tool the section of highway with two lane road (zoning should show back up)
4. set my zoning back to NONE to keep building
Remove zoning:
1. set zoning to NONE
2. replace tool road section with two lane highway (zoning gets removed)
3. replace tool highway with the type I actually want (road does not "get" zoning)

Kind of a pain, but nothing compared to not having this tool.

Clairification: I am never checking the "Zoning Tool" button, I always have it off, I am only selecting the other buttons while I build.

In case anyone else is wondering, the mod author wrote in reply on GitHub

"I'll take a look at this issue in the upcoming weeks. I haven't been playing CS 2 much. Haven't been able to get into it ever since March. But I've heard good things about it after the new patch. So give me sometime to make the changes!"

So good news, this will be updated. In the meantime, we'll just keep trying the workarounds previously mentioned in this thread. Definetely a much needed feature in the base game, and thankful it is possible via Mod.

so it's this mod removing half my zoning? and deleting 60% of my population i guess?
are you having the issue where you have no residential demand? because that's where i am now and i can't fix it even byu reverting to vanilla no mods
That's a seperate issue. I just had this happen myself and I almost gave up on my city until I saw someone else suggest deleting all my parks, which didn't quite make sense. I deleted all my parks and INSTANTLY residential demand came back. Seems like some kind of bug related to parks.

They were referring to the homeless bug, where cims cannot move out of the city and get stuck in parks and on the street. Get the 'bye bye homeless' mod which will fix it until CO releases an official fix and you can freely place parks down again without worrying about it.
