We have already covered the topic of Bloodlines, and more specifically historical Bloodlines, in a past Dev Diary, yet marrying into a famous family is not the only way to gain a Bloodline in Holy Fury.

There are quite a few custom Bloodlines that you can found with your own ruler by several different means. Some can be gained through special actions, such as by building a Legend as a Warrior Lodge Hero, others can be unlocked by performing impressive feats, such as being an extraordinarily dedicated Viking raider or restoring Israel.

Finally, if your ruler has very high Prestige (5000 points or higher) and is Duke-tier or above, you will have access to the new Forge Bloodline ambition.

By picking this ambition you will be provided with several paths to create your own custom Bloodline, tailoring it to whichever kind of ruler you wish to be remembered as.

Each path will lead you to unlock a different bloodline, each coming in different variants (for example pursuing the Murder path will lead you to gain one of four different Murder-related Bloodlines). Additionally, if you pursue more than a single path at the same time, you have a chance of unlocking a hybridized Bloodline, with its own unique perks.

And finally, if you take too long to complete any of the initial paths, having the ambition will trigger a special event chain that will allow you to invest resources and select from yet another pool of potential bloodlines, whose pick will be determined by the choices that you make during the event chain itself.

Some of these Bloodlines grant a static bonus, decreasing the chance of vassals joining factions against you, increasing your plot power, or unlocking special buildings for your realms, others grant more dynamic perks, such as special events to facilitate murder or decisions to meddle in your relatives’ private affairs.

This is it for now, though there's still going to be some news coming today. Do not forget to tune in for our very special stream at 17:00 CEST (https://www.twitch.tv/paradoxinteractive).

Well done PI, because of you I now get Spotify.

Also since you got your own Metal band you also might be interested in sponsoring sportsmen (me possibly) or even teams?

Say you win 7 or 8 wars and then have 15 years of peace. Do you get a merged “Warmonger/Peacemaker” bloodline?

I think it's for the best. It allows to set different goals for different playthroughs as well, if you wish to pursue a certain kind of bloodline in one and another in the next.
Heh. Oh, Silfae. Sweet, pure, innocent Silfae.

Do you really think that will stop us?

All we have to do is take tanistry to switch between multiple family branches, forging bloodlines in each, then, once every living member of our dynasty has one, perform a massive series of internal marriages to merge them all together and create a race of UNSTOPPABLE GOD-EMPERORS!

don't forget to throw glitterhoof in there somewhere as well

@Silfae Let's say you become a grandparent/great-grandparent before you forge your bloodline. Let's also say that some of your children have died before you forged your bloodline. Have you ensured that the children of your dead children receive the bloodline?

The only reason I ask is because I once played a succession game (multiple people passing the save around) that involved the Sassanid dynasty and Zoroastrianism, along with eventually becoming Saoshyant. However, my eldest son had died before I became Saoshyant, so my grandson (who was now my heir) did not inherit the trait. (I know, should've submitted a bug report, but that was about half a year ago)

I understand that Bloodlines are not traits, and I suspect it had something to do with dead characters being unable to obtain traits. Nevertheless, it might be an issue in the future, presuming bloodlines follow a similar code to traits.

Not sure if this is currently the case or not, but we now can expect dead characters to be able to obtain traits - as sainthood is a trait that's given posthumously.

Question - are bloodlines solely dependent on dynasty/house of the character?

Can it be inherited through matrilinial marriage like usual?

Can a character inherit bloodline through mother in regular marriages, unlike the Sayyid trait for example?

Enatic bloodlines will be inherited through the mother, agnatic ones will stick much more closely to the dynasty. I think, from looking at the icons on individual bloodlines, that whether bloodlines are passed to bastards or affected by matrilineal marriages is different for some bloodlines than others in a way that hasn't yet been detailed.

It was either that the son didn't inherit the descendant of saoshyant trait or that the son received it posthumously and was unable to pass it on to his son (my grandson), it was half a year ago. I might still have the save file, let me check.

EDIT: Oh wait, the new policy of having to separately download old game versions is in effect. Way too much bother.

EDIT2: As luck would have it, I still have the file in dropbox. I can't remember what version of the game we were on, but we were using all DLC at the time (I did not have Sunset Invasion, so minus that), and the save dates to 10/13/17. Here it is https://www.dropbox.com/s/f8byq9nu6x4p9m2/Boot_II_Reboot.ck2?dl=0 The character should be the grandson of the Saoshyant, but somehow not have the descendant of Saoshyant trait.

2 Questions:

- If I get a bloodline trait do all (already existing) descendants gain it, or only those born after getting the trait. And do nephews of the bloodline owner gain it?

- When gaining a hybrid bloodline, do you need to complete more than one of the criteria? or part of one and a part of another ( i.e 5/10 castles + 5/10 cities VS 10 cities + 10 castles)

Thanks for all the work on HF, feels like a whole new game :)

The AI can pursue this ambition, but it has been taught not to do it if it belongs to a player-controlled dynasty, to avoid spoiling the player's fun.

Can they do it if the player already has a forged bloodline which they don't have?

Or maybe they could form a cadet branch off the back of the acheivement (when you finally add them :p)?

The check looks at any owned bloodlines that have the created_bloodline flag.
Historical bloodlines do not prevent rulers from forging a special bloodline.

Also, for the people who missed them, these were some example released on Twitter in the past few days:
Are the bloodlines in the teasers considered "created bloodlines"? Also do you need the special ambition to get all of them?

can modders use bloodlines to affect certain things that shouldnt be usually possible in certain religions?
Pretty sure you can, as one of the bloodline that got previewed gave the ability to form nomad like mercenary band, which right now required you to have mercenary tradition trait and keep it alive through generation.
