For the Italian Wars, what happens if no party wins 70%? I don't think historically any party controlled as much?

It will eventually end.

A stalemate ending is possible (which I guess that would favor more the Italian countries than the foreign powers)

What determines the boundary between a Disaster and a Situation? The collapse of the Yuan dyansty seems more of a disaster than an international situation.

Disaster is primarily involving ONE country, and some are dynamic and can happen repeatedly like a Succession Crisis etc.

Situations involves MANY countries.

How dynamic are these situations? Are there some default generic ones which only appear if certain conditions are met? Kinda like EU4s disasters.
Examples are civil wars, religious strive, empires collapsing etc.

These are historical narratives, not generic systems.. Civil Wars, collapse etc are mechanics and/or disasters.

No disrespect to the devs, but I think it's the safer choice to focus on situations from actual history that people are familiar with, than come up with a large amount of fantasy situations that are valid in certain circumstances.

Agree 100%.

Players want to see an Ottoman Empire, and strong Russia, and want to experience the Reformation and Wars of Religion.

Playerswant THEIR choices to change history.

I've been doing these games for 25+ years now, and many times I've been suckered in by "we can simulate everything, we don't need narrative guidelines" only for game launches to be rocky, and having to readjust and making sure historical narratives are happening often enough.

Byzantine Civil War of 1341-1347? Technically it's a succession war, but it's a succession war that dragged in a lot of adjacent counties (Serbia, Bulgaria, Aydin, the Ottomans).

that would be a normal civil war

A bit like how certain events work in EU4, like the Iberian Wedding. It happens in 95% of the cases, but when it doesn't it can create interesting opportunities.

We have game rules for how AI handles "historical options" in DHE's.

@Johan Is there a reason why the Kingdom of Sardinia is just considered direcly owned by Aragon but the Kingdom of Sicily isn't? They had basically the same status. And could it be changed in the future?

Because my Aragonese content designers viewed that as the most correct setup atm.

So both Situation and DHEs are going to be a thing... I'm guessing the former is more for large-scale wars that 'change the rules', and DHEs are more like internal issues or more simplistic historical wars between two tags?

yeah

What's DHE?

Will there be another TT detailing the disease system, or is this it?

DHE = Dynamic Historical Event.. Its an acronym and term I started using during Eu4 development.

there will be another TT on diseases later on.

Good DD.
For an important historical event, what about the Wars of the Roses?

that would be a long event chain that creates a disaster..

Are Situations all predetermined? or they can be dynamic? For example, can a random succession crisis be a Situation?

No. thats a normal mechanic

So the Black Death situation is using the generic disease mechanics, but with more stuff to flesh it out and make it as impactful as it was IRL? Do I get the idea right?
yes

Is the Protestant reformation or the 30 years war a situtation?

How moddable is the system? The possibilities are endless.

both are in, and the system is entirely made in script, so 100% moddable.

Will the Northern and Southern court/Nanboku-chō period be a situation in Japan? It seems like a likely candidate that would be active from the game's start, unless it's handled through other means.

yeah, its in

A more under the hood question: Since Situations (and International organizations) are not hard coded and very variable, how to you ensure the AI is able to navigate their custom mechanics effectively to make the best of them, instead of flailing semi-randomly?

The AI can look at the building blocks we use. Its a very powerful system in the core.

Is the holy league ( 1571 ) that was intended to break the Ottoman Empire's control of the eastern Mediterranean Sea a potential situation ?

no, that would be a coalition
