I think its never really bigger than a small fraction of the screen.

I don't think it will have that much of an impact. I don't think we'll see anything below shoulders which would eliminate some potential for bugs and it won't impose itself over UI.

I am shocked, shocked that Paradox went with the technology they already had.

If a player has to rely exclusively on mods to have the changes that the community wants, are you really listening to the fanbase feedback as you said you would as a developer?
Listening doesn't mean everytime some people disagree to immediately change it (especially when the community doesn't agree on stuff)

Johan told us that's something moddable

Then people can react to say if that being moddable is good for them or not so that feedback is more accurate.

Also Johan already said no to other things that weren't in the game at that time before doing the change, so that doesn't mean he won't change if there is still a lot of feedback going that way

No bud, listening means implement the feedbacks since they won't learn from the mistakes made on ck3, vicky3 and eu4. They had to change the revolutionary warfare system that the community buried with negative feedback, right? In the end I agree they should focus on substantial feedbacks, and not that localization request of the game in that central African language, German dialect or that province name in Siberia or on why that region is 6 provinces instead of 8.

I want something like this. (This was planned in Vic 3)

Fully agree!! It's just so much better. Just imagine the same but with crowns and king robes.

Yeah, it's kinda a shame we get those weird plastic doll graphics instead of something that attempts to either look appropriately artistic or like actual photographic humans.

Luckily if this is the main thing NotEU gets wrong (as far as my tastes go) it won't be the end of the world.

Okay, 3d degradation is inevitable, we get it.
But let us option akin to NATO symbols toggle or color blindess switch to turn 3d freaks off. Blank space is preferrable to 3d uglyness.

I really have no problem with 3d characters and see the argument that they "dumb down the game" as one that is very far fetched, though to be honest I entertain this argument in another way, so I can't completely put aside the idea that investing more time and money on something unnecessary would mean less ressource for the development of more important features.

I mean it was kinda expected wasn't it? The CK3 ones are not that bad, my main concern was mods. I could get used to it if this uses a more developed tech than CK does, as the reason Victoria looks SO BAD is because it used earlier tech than CK3

Some insane overreactions here. The family tree system they've shown looks incredible and you people are doomposting because there'll be a 3D model attached to the names. I fully understand why they did it. It's just easier to reuse their already existing system which can generate a unqiue model for every charracter in the game than to pay artists to create 20 portraits for each culture that will end up seeming repetitive eventually anyway. The main concern here should be the UI.

@Dongerino I agree that the UI so far looks very bad, however there is the possibility that it is just placeholders and will be replaced by more beautiful backgrounds. In the previous monarch screen, you can already see the dull blue being replaced by some better patterns :

The game is a work in progress. Let's not hate the artists just yet.

I have treated this thread as a great feedback. At the start there is a god-looking proposal of 2d live characters. Yet it feels like it wasn't considered at all.

...Next week though, we will talk about something that many people have asked for repeatedly...

I could forgive your view of the 3D models- that’s just aesthetic preference, even if it’s not one that I share.
But the UI? The UI in both, especially Vic3, is a crime against humanity. It’s a tragedy on par with the burning of the library of Alexandria. The UI is the primary reason I stopped playing Vic3, precisely because it raises my blood pressure to the territory I may have a stroke. If the PC UI is closer to Vic3 than, say, to EU4, it will be the worst decision in the design process
Out of curiosity, why do you hate Vicky's UI so much?
