Armok's Beard!

I just realized... check the dates in the above screen-shots of the arrival of our Orbital Hab, allowing us to formally claim the star system (August 21st 2030)...

... and the Bork's first arrival in Ze Neuotral Zoon-a (August 22nd 2030)!

We beat them by ONE DAY.
So at least they won't feel we "stole" the system from then, since from their point of view "humans have always been there".

Exactly. This is their first jump into the star system.

For all they know, our colony has been there a thousand years.

Almost as if they waited until our claim was established.

Well, so far so good. Surely they will also notice it's a diplomatic vessel pretty soon.

No.

We haven't passed through a five-day hack yet.

The next five-day production hack (which is when Diplo is calculated) is in four more days, on August the 26th.

Then we'll know what the initial Diplo situation is with the Bork.

... sooner, if they decide to shoot at our Diplomat.

I still find it astounding that we are in Year 82 of this game (started in 1948, currently 2030) and we beat them out by only 24 hours.

We'll have to translate their language before we can understand their diplomat.

Looks like that is a bit of a challenge too.
Luckily I'm pretty sure this is a NPR due to finding their homeworld, otherwise I'd be worrying if this is actually a spoiler race.
Not that a spoiler would be this passive ..

We have accumulated enough Petard Mines to set up our first minefield, at the AX Microscopii => Ze Neuotral Zoon-a jump point.

Sending out a mine-laying task force now.

This is what our Precursor Autopsy taught us.

Pretty wide environmental tolerances.

Zero to ten atmospheres? They can survive just fine in a full vacuum?

Another five-day hack.

So our Ambassador to the Bork has had two "No progress" and one "Very limited progress" results.

These guys aren't exactly overflowing with bonhomie, are they?

That's the second "Unintelligible communication" message we've received from them, too.

I wonder if they're telling us to get out?

Bork THEM, if they are. We're good here.

I wonder if that bit is random. Doesn't look like it.
Might be simpler for the program to just give them wide tolerances, it's not like there are still actual precursors around..

Or they might be robots?

A temperature tolerance 100 degrees wide (from -43 C to +57 C) and the ability to operate in vacuum.

Could be robots?

... in which case, what we found was a scrapyard, not a graveyard.

Looks like it. Communications success chances are influenced by xenophobia. Seemingly theirs is fairly high.. definitely much higher than the Modron's.

Could be little else.

Bork THEM, if they are.

Odds are they will go hostile if this goes on too long. I'll tell you that.

Makes as much sense as anything.

Should we concede the star system to them?

What if they demand the NEXT star system, too? AX Microscopii. That cuts the only route from Earth to the Radiant.

Bork THEM.
