They have a spare parts Tender as an integral part of the Sabre squadron (the Whetstone II).

They'll need R&R, yes.

I'm sending a Mountain class small craft Tender, with a 12,000-ton Hangar Deck.

They can rest inside it.

Six 2,000-ton Sabres will JUST fit.

Have you considered building a commercial carrier for this kind of thing? If you combine a commercial hangar with a maintenance module you can get a pretty huge carrier. It just can't reload missiles but sabres and assault shuttles don't need that capability.

Found a reddit thread on this the other day, seems useful.

OK, now that we've come up for air... what other measures should we take?

I don't really want to start a big production run of new ships, ground troops and STO until after we absorb the xeno-technology from all those wrecks.

I can build us a bunch more wreckers... and some replacement Freighters...

More salvage modules, maybe some colonists for Harmony, maybe bring in a gate constructor for later this year too.

Not much else we aren't already doing. More PD seems important but for all we know the Bôrk will bring big fleet of laser gunships instead..

Their ships are somewhat slower than the Modrons.

Other than that it's hard to estimate their capabilities.

We haven't seen them fire any weapons.

Which is a worry, some types of enemy designs are more dangerous than others. Imagine a group of 10 Sarthes..

... or should we knock out those shipyards right now, and refresh ourselves afterward?

Nobody is below 75% in anything except AMM-PD missiles. Those, we've used about half.

Just go. We don't know how much time we have, better not to get caught with our pants down.

No harm in it, surely!

I’d be inclined to get all our ducks in a row as we don’t know what’s waiting for us, do we? They could autogenerate a defensive fleet, couldn’t they?

No. NPR fleets get generated at discovery time, after that they have to build ships the slow way just like everyone else.

But I’ve never played this game and cannot remember the details you provide us, so my opinion is worthless! :D

No, it's valuable. At worst you learn something, at best it helps.

Can they get any shore leave yet or is the population still too low? Considering likely STOs planetside, restocking is probably a good idea. Unless we are going to sit out of range and destroy the shipyards with missiles

There are probably orbital stations to deal with first.

Still, I don't think it's worth even risking.
Human soldiers should he preferred.

Game mechanically speaking there is no risk.
RP wise, sure, whatever you want to think.

The problem, of course, is that the one thing that we really are running short of - AMM-PD missiles - might be the one thing that we really NEED if the planet is heavily covered by Fortress space stations.

That's the argument for waiting for the Ammo Tenders to arrive.

Scouts are on the way, so the time spent replenishing can be used for scouting.

We'll have two of each type of scout move in.

We have hundreds of missiles available (thousands, if you include obsolete types).

Can ships transfer ordinance while in flight?

"Underway replenishment" is a tech line. But we're not far advanced in it.

We'll need to rendezvous, at least.

I say: Send in the scouts and let them tell us whether an immediate rush is practical.

Now that the survivors have been rescued before they run out of oxygen, I have another job for the Charente-Maritime...

That's the Modron Troop Transport, isn't it? You're having their own troop transport drop a tank brigade on one of their asteroids? Poetic :D

By the way, I tend to provide subtitles to screenshots like that for one very simple reason.

The screenshots in Ad Astra were hosted somewhere that seems to have taken them offline. So while everyone can examine them today, there is no guarantee it will stay that way.

The Colony ship continues to collect life-pods, both ours and theirs.

Meanwhile, a Tug delivers an Airbase space station loaded with Fighters to the Neutral Zone jump point, and a group of ten Freighters deliver more Spaceport components to Harmony.

The asteroid contained ten Modron auto-mines.

They are being confiscated as war booty.

Onward, to the next asteroid!

... looks empty.

Getting into Mechanus will be easier, because there's a jump gate in place.

I'm sending six stealthed scout ships into the Neutral Zone, with most or all of them continuing on into Mechanus.

Two will be passive Intel vessels like the ESN Mata Hari. Big passive EM and Thermal arrays.
Two will be AWACS Intel vessels like the ESN James Bond.
Two will be Scientist class Geo- and Grav-scouts.

All six have stealth gear.

The Intel vessels are fast (14,000+ kps) but the Scientists are slow.
