This is part of marketing. These streamers have audiences that see the game and there are people who may have been on the fence until they saw the stream. They aren't streaming to rub it in your face and HBS isn't giving them access because they are cool guys with popular streams.

This is one of the many ways in which success is accomplished.

You could start your own game stream. You'd have to pay for things yourself until you build up enough audience that game developers partnered with you. Of course that would mean that you would likely have to play games that you had little to no interest in to keep your streams up. You'd also have to use less capslock...

But seriously, this is how the system works and in all, this is a good thing.

Watch out for the Troll

Watch out for the Troll
TROL-1A
A mech that lurks on the sidelines and pounces when it's sensors detect a civil discourse.
Claims to be 100 tons and armed with Quad-PPCs and yet when examined closely is actually a light mech mounting exclusively MGs and no ammo.
Has very thin-skinned armour.

I'm so glad these are not on the confirmed mech list;)

Well put and imaginatively constructed, TSM; the only bit I'd add is that such a 'Mech (and they show up on different planets, but their strategies never vary, regardless of time and/or place, leading me to believe that there's a MechWarrior Academy out there somewhere that features such skill ranks on its curriculum for a 75 CP investment, and never changes regardless of what era we're discussing) is piloted by individuals who are pining for the return of some sort of faux-legendary Star League-type MMPOG era that did not, does not, and probably never will exist. A League where gamers are respected, listened to, and above all are treated as valued paying customers. What's that, you say...? Harebrained Schemes already does all that stuff...? Well, er, ah...they should be doing it better! Yeah, better, and if you just give me a few minutes...okay, weeks...well, maybe another year or five...I'll have my list of customer demands all ready! Perfectly reasonable, and after looking them over, you'll all be looking at each other, nodding, and saying, "How come we didn't think of that earlier?"

Only point I'd add with regard to the 'Mech's construction is that it has absolutely zero heat sinks; and consequently has no capacity to engage in any sort of conflict - real or simulated - without being shut down in a single round due to rapid overheating. Perhaps we can petition Piranha Games to create a prototype...

Greeting Mechwarriors,

Ok, ok. That's enough comedy/tragedy for now. Back on topic Please.
Respectfully please.

Thank you.

Three weeks from today... LAUNCH! And three more Paradox-HBS streams to enjoy along the way. : )

Time Zone? Time? Anybody know?
BATTLETECH will be released in the Wild (Launched) at 9:00am Pacific Time on 24APR.

Woot, woot, woot! : )

Speaking of watching streams...

Looking at how I want to set up my Commander, I will have guts as my lowest stat. Should I rethink that considering that I could end up in the med bay a lot?

For that matter, if background story is unimportant, what stats would be best for the MechWarrior who's going to be with you the whole time?

Tactics and Guts? Or Piloting and Gunnery?

Based on my time playing the Backer Beta, my Scouts die... die a lot. So I'll be using my Mercenary Commander as a Piloting / Tactician. Though I will take him to a four in Guts as early as possible, to get that point of extra health.

This will permit me to go Guts to Level 5 and Gunnery to Level 8 with the bulk of my remaining MechWarriors, thus somewhat girding them against the random encounter with Lady "Death" Kiva.

But then it'll be a decision each of us will face, so there is no one right answer. And as ever good luck and good gaming!

If you're good. I think 3 guts is fine for the beginning missions.

I probably wouldn't start facing the big guns a little further into the game with that though. The risk of rng is too great, and the downtime will hurt.

Thanks for putting that on, Pachira.:) While the graphics and interface are a bit on the start-up side - interesting how we always seem to end up getting stuck on these desert-type planets in these early MechWarrior games - the slightly over-the-top voice-overs make up for it. Been watching Cohh's stuff to get a serious run-down on how the game operates, and looking forward very much to HBS' launch this month. All this said, though: Nothing will ever surpass the grandeur and fun of table-top, in my opinion. Nonetheless, carry on...

Going +1 Guts, +2 Tactics. Then getting everything to 4 before going to a specialty.

So, you are in a BJ-1, Piloting isn't for that 'Mech, poor melee. Gunnery is nice, but that's covered by Precision Strike. Guts is needed and you really want to get to 4 ASAP, but Vigilance covers Bulwark. The one thing you can't make up elsewhere is accurate Called Shots. Thus, Tactics early to synergize with Precision Strike's +4 To-Hit and Called Shot for maximum accuracy of the BJ-1's 150 damage alpha.

Hmm, I'll be going Piloting first, and some tactics for called shots. and the view. Im willing to bet that extra evasiveness combined with the JJs keeps my main safe enough for a little while. At least long enough to spec my Cmdr a bit more before the Opfors start getting dangerous gunners.

I'll be going full Ace Pilot with Multishot.
