IDK, I'm digging the art style myself. I am curious to see it in it's entirety (as I am sure this is bits and pieces cut together for a trailer).

Also, In all fairness, those earlier titles were produced by AAA studios such as Activision, Microsoft and Microprose. They had AAA budgets and resources as well. Harebrained Schemes is a small studio with a modest budget.

I think the art style they achieved is rather impressive and beautiful myself, and also rather impressive given that they aren't a big studio.

I'm not saying I'm await a 30 minute Hollywood-grade CGI movie. The art-style fine for me, if sorter, it's fine for me, but this trailer is mixed this art-style graphics with the in-game 3D engine and the single-player campaign graphics. It's actually looks like an hodgepodge, hasty work.

Let's take it you are a not-Battletech fan simple gamer. You get exited from this trailer? o_O

This game deserve better...

Agreed.

In fact, I LOVE ! The trailer...

It seems to be getting a good positive reception on YouTube, so at least so far it seems to be getting people hyped.

I like the trailer myself, so I guess our opinions differ on it *shrug*. To each their own.

I think he has a point, because I saw no Awesome in the video either. :p

That's proabably a good thing, because the Awesome, quite frankjly isn't :p

I've posted this into a facebook group, it's for a sci-fi podcast, and so far i've had half a dozen responses all saying it looks really good, including one specifically praising the art style.
Can't say how many are prior fans of the universe, so make of it what you will.

Actually I'm seen first in a Hungarian game site, and the only reaction (beside my post) is saying: "I'm looking forward to the game, but this trailer did not really catch me :(."

From user laguzmage: "Whomever designed Khamea deserves like, 3 raises"

Also, their username makes me wonder if I could convince some fellow Fire Emblem fans that this game would be up their alley. Hmm...

Well... I'm exited about the game, but the 'Story Trailer' is a big disappointment.

Almost all Battletech and Mechcommander game have a grade AAA intro / trailer (at least at their time).
This trailer is a no-no. Nor fully animated comic-style (like as started), nor fully 3D, nor have the 'Awesome' feeling.

I hope the best for the game tho...

The key with the art style is that it's **distinct**. I've been pretty much cycling through using all their stills as my desktop, and I'm someone who is notorious for not really caring about a pretty (as opposed to functional) environment.

Basically HBS's art direction has made me care about game art in the same way Jon Everist has made me care about game soundtracks. This trailer is the equivalent of aesthetic crack for me. Add in an actual sodding release date and... well I'm not sure who is typing this comment, but I'm pretty sure it's not me, because I'm still slumped in the corner in my obligatory hype coma.

Note, personally I like the art style what HBS use in their earlier games and several times in this trailer.

Whatever, seems to be I'm become Mr. Negative here...

Mechcommander 2 is 2001. A few more years for 20 (was it really that long ago? I thought it was later).

Mechcommander gold was 1999 so that is almost 20 years.
It's more about the last Turn-Based Battetech Titel. That was Crescent Hawks Revenge. 1990.

And after the Trailer the Thing i most anticipate is the Full Soundtrack from Jon Everist. God that Music sounds so divine...
Glad my Pledgereward includes the Full OST.

Nah, more like a useful foil to let the rest of us gush enthusiastically about the trailer.

I, and the rest of us on the forum, thank you for your service Cifu!

I thought the trailer was absolutely GLORIOUS! It introduced not only the game, but the entire Battletech universe (something I think HBS is trying to do with this game to bring more people in). It gives a firm place for the player and how they fit in the world ("you, mercenary, choose your wars...let's talk money"). I actually see the two separate art styles as a major plus. It makes it shows a clear distinction between the cut scenes and the in-game graphics. Too many trailers are all cut scene with no actual gameplay, no indication of how the game will look.

@Cifu I may disagree with you, but your comments are always welcome here.

I'm noticing a similarity in style between this and the Homeworld series cut scenes. Is it just me, or might they have employed some of the same artists?

Compare to this from Deserts of Kharak:

Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak Cutscenes:

Anyway, the more I see of Lady Arano the more I expect to like her. She wouldn't be in the market for a dashing consort would she? I clean up suprisingly well. :D

My 2 cents, I'm not big into the art (although I did like the mech hanger art) but for me it was the voice over that worked on the trailer. The noble princess so use to convincing everyone to do her bidding with words and then realizing that this is going to take money.

Big part of why I think I'll like her. She has (or at least espouses) lofty ideals... but she also sounds hard nosed an practical.
