you should change the DESC of event 2000000003, the name says it was refused, but the description repeats the historical thing making it nonsense, because it was refused... ;)
also, when SWE accepts it, the GER event shows AGAIN the same DESC, change it a bit, if not it "looks" like the same event...

Maybe the decision to declare war should be made a B choice? It doesn't sound like the kind of thing that would immediately prompt a declaration of war if refused.

Is fixed in V. 1.01

Also, you should add some triggers making sure the germans are in control of Norway, shouldn't you?
Will add triggers as soon as I get the Blücher event, which I am curently scripting to work

As for everything going small, did you change the in-game resolution? The interface graphics look much smaller if you change from 800x600 to 1024x768.
Will look at this

Alternatively, did you play another game and then come back to HOI? The interface in Victoria looks bigger, for example (don't know if it is, but it looks like it is).
No, it definately changed size

As I said before, will be fixed as soon as the Blücher is done, currently it (the Blücher) wont work.

I have created a bunch of Historical and the alternate events for the US , dealing with the JA population. If any body is interested I can post them.

Its a big script, 21 events

Im afraid that events dealing with this issue. enternment camps etc. is an off limit issue from sides of paradox and CORE will not be going against that either, so could you explain a little more what your events are about.

Hope you understand.

If you want to e-mail them to me, I will take a look. Awhile back I got permission from Paradox to write some events that deal with the internment of American citizens at the beginning of the war, but I haven't had the time to write the events yet. My e-mail address is dow_mike at hotmail dot com. I will make sure that your events don't cross the line of acceptableness (really a word?) and maintain the general flow of US events. I am sure that they will, but where this is potentially an issue that can get us into trouble, we will be playing our hand close to the vest. Thank you for your work and I look forward to seeing your events. MDow

I don't have a specific idea at the moment, but somebody's comment about Germany got me thinking. They said that Germany gets many events before the war that help it get up to speed (free techs, etc). If the computer ahistorically chooses no, then Germany is not as prepared. But basically, in most games, the ideal is that Germany (and all countries) will be at roughly historical positions on August 30, 1939.

My suggestion is for maybe some ahistorical events that put Germany (or other countries) beyond their historical preparedness... Maybe things that could've happened in real life that would've helped but didn't happen. Some interesting what if's... In these events the "No" would be the first choice, but the computer has a chance to pick them.

Germany already has a Ural Bomber AI event chain. This gives a small chance that a German AI will develop a basic bomber force before WWII. :p

Yes I've seen that one many times... then I was expecting to get it as Germany but figured it must be AI only... and I think that's a good idea.

So that's one. Any other ideas? What else did Germany have the opportunity to do?

What ever happens to those GB-Italy talks? Do they ever ally? Would it have been possible?

MateDow is working the German Z Plan events for 0.81. There is and interesting discussion of ahistorical alternative of A-Bomb development in recent Core: Nuke Tech.

I don't know anything about the GB-Italy talks. A concerted diplomatic offensive by the allies can keep Italy (AI) out of the war or delay entry at least.

Since a human can do whatever he wants, this type of stuff should usually be AI only. Right now I think AI development time is better spent on making the AI less dumb and more historical.

Some new events I've put together

Hi all :)

Have only just signed up to the forums - got back into HoI about 6 weeks ago, and found CORE about 4-5 weeks ago. Anyway, I have tweaked a number of the existing events, and written a bundle more (some are serious tweaks of existing ones, others are somewhat unfinished) - pretty much all are for Germany and her partners (can you say German allies ? :p lol) at the moment.

Just to introduce myself, and where my nickname here comes from - I do indeed have a Degree in History (have a Master's in International Relations, too, for that matter), and I have (like many people, I suspect) always been fascinated by WW2 and the politics and events of that time.

Anyway - what is the best way to post these events (and other comments) here ? The events file is c. 40kb at the moment.

Awaiting your replies ! ttfn Tim

Post any comments in the appropriate regional thread. IE CORE-Germany, CORE-Western Europe, etc. I'm sure that any and all comments will get due attention, and explanations for why x,y, and z are in or done in a certain way will follow.

BUF Events

Here's three - all for the UK, all largely 'flavour' - nothing seriously game-altering.

Cable Street

Prerequistes: UK is democratic and at peace
Date: 4th Oct 1936

Text: Though inter-war Britain had its share of social problems, the country remained stable by European standards; 'extremist' movements remained at the fringes of political life. Fascist activity was negligible and might have stayed that way but for the involvement of Sir Oswald Mosley, a veteran of WW1 and a former Labour cabinet minister of great charisma, drive and oratorical skill. The formation of the British Union of Fascists in 1932 led to a period of rapid expansion - fuelled by favourable coverage in some sections of the press - and the ongoing Depression. Support slowly waned thereafter as the economy recovered and political opposition to Mosley's cadres, the 'Blackshirts', consolidated. The BUF's support base was highly localised - the movement only became a real force in the East End of London, with regular rallies, meetings and paper-sales. Run-ins with the Communist-led opposition became increasingly frequent and violent. On 4th October 1936, a mass rally was planned to commemorate the fourth anniversary of the BUF's foundation. Over 2,000 Blackshirts assembled - between them and the City of London were several thousand anti-Fascist demonstrators. More than 6,000 police stood by. Sir John Simon, the Home Secretary, who had ignored calls to ban the march, now realised a serious confrontation was certain if the Fascists were allowed to march through Stepney...

Choice A (historical, AI chance 60%): Contain the Reds and reroute the march to defuse confrontation; +1% dissent, move 15 towards Democracy
Choice B (AI chance 20%): Allow the BUF to march the pre-arranged route; +2% dissent, move 15 towards Fascism
Choice C (AI chance 20%): Ban the march; move 15 towards Communism

Note: this event represents the general official attitude towards radical organisations in peacetime - I'm not suggesting the so-called 'Battle of Cable Street' itself had repercussions that deep; this event uses the reaction to a single demonstration to reflect the British government's attitude towards left and right-wing dissent in general.

The Public Order Act

Prerequisites: the UK is at peace, is democratic, 'Cable Street' has fired and option B was not chosen
Date: 1st Jan 1937

Text: As a reaction to the increasing level of violence that attended Fascist activity after 1934, the Public Order Act became law on New Year's Day 1937. The Act banned the wearing of political uniforms and reaffirmed the state's monopoly of force. The power of the British Union was severely curtailed, and membership continued to decline to the outbreak of a war it spent much of its remaining existence trying to prevent.

Choice A (historical, AI chance 70%): The Act is passed; -2% dissent, move 15 towards Communism
Choice B (AI chance 25%): The Act is rejected; +1% dissent, move 15 towards Democracy
Choice C (AI chance 5%): The provisions of the Act are targeted against the Left; +3% dissent, move 15 towards Fascism

Regulation 18b

Prerequistes: UK is democratic and at war with a 'fascist' (can that be scripted?) Germany, Italy, Russia, USA or France, 'The Public Order Act' has fired and option C was not chosen
Date: any time after 1/1/1937

Text: The outbreak of war with Germany led the British Government to view Mosley's "British Union" with increasing suspicion, though there is no evidence the by now utterly marginalised organisation represented a 'fifth column' for the Axis. As peace in Europe entered its final week, Parliament passed the Emergency Powers Act. This included the hugely controversial Regulation 18b, allowing imprisonment without trial for individuals vaguely defined as being of "hostile origin or association". Though Mosley remained at liberty throughout the 'Phoney War', as the Wehrmacht swept into western Europe he, 800 leading Fascists and several hundred others were arrested and incarcerated entirely without charge. Some remained in internment to the closing months of the War.

Choice A (historical, AI chance 60%): Do it; -1% dissent, move 15 towards Communism
Choice B (AI chance 40%): No imprisonment without charge; +2% dissent, move 15 towards Democracy

Note: a second, 'mirror-image' event could easily be written allowing Britain to imprison Commies if she's at war with the Comintern. Since Communists were both more numerous and more influential, doing so should cost some dissent, however.

I copied this post out of the CORE BUG forum. To see how i came to this event, i would like to redirect you guys there.

Most important to know: I found out that Dutch forces occupied Dili north of australia to strengthen the allied position agains Japan there. I will look for further details.

And the incident at Dilli I don't see how we can make a good event for this.

Well I'll look into what happened exactly if i can find some data....

For now perhaps:

In the way of triggering this event somewhat after the Japan DOWS Holland (allies).

Name: occupation of Dili.

"To secure the weak link in the line of isles in the Dutch East Indies, Netherlands decided it was necessery to bring the portuguese side of Timor (Dili) under allied control."

Make Netherlands consider Dili as province they want.

Giving portugal either the possibility
a) to cede this province to holland/ +15 disssent
b) to declare war on the allies and thus joining the axis/ +10 dissent
c) to join the allies and in that way securing the region/ +30 dissent

Something like this?

Hrrrm... on the other hand this isnt prolly worth the trouble. Would add some flavour to both dutch and portuguese minor players however :)

Edit: This should prolly be in the event folder :s sorry.
Edit2: It is now :)

I see a bit of a problem with this, as there is no significance in the game for this province.

It is certain the Portuguese felt this way irl as they would grant military access to Allied (Dutch/Australian) forces if the japanese were to attack. Giving access to only one province is impossible and in this case not really worth the trouble. I liked the idea about the possibility of bringing portugal to the war on either side but reading about the events shows that portugal wouldnt even consider going to war over this colony as far as i can see.

Found a detailed description of the events back in 1942 and they just seem somewhat too complicated to put into the game.....
So i indeed think this event is not worth the trouble, unfortunately.

Portugal was ready to go to war over it. Just not with the Allies. :) One of the conditions for granting access to the Azores bases to the USA was that they would include portuguese forces if they were to land there to expell the japanese.

But the triggers for the events should definitely include japanese presence in the vicinity of Timor. I doubt the dutch and aussies would've invaded a neutral's territory if they didn't feel there was an actual possibility the japanese would get it.
